![]() 'Lorks!' exclaims Fluffy, 'look at the size of those tentacles'. He instinctively leaps back - even though the tentacles are not threatening him - and cowers behind Huergar, peering at the spot where they are emerging from behind the dwarf. Huergar & GM: While cowering, Fluffy grabs Huergar momentarily and he imparts a tiny bit of good fortune on his friend.
Standard Action - using Bit of Luck. If Huergar rolls a D20 before Fluffy's next turn he can roll twice and take the better result ![]()
![]() My reading is that we can take 10 here - unless the circumstances change and we come under threat - but not 20 as there is a penalty for failure i.e. a long drop... So Fluffy will take 10 on his Climb checks Fluffy looks rather nervously at the rungs on the tree. Despite being surefooted while walking along the branch, when it comes to climbing he appears much less confident. He carefully places one foot on a rung, and slowly starts to climb down. Taking 10 gives a check of 10 - 1(STR) +2(racial) = 11. If that's not good enough, Fluffy will climb back up and cast a spell. Question for the GM - I took Alter Self as a spell without bothering to read the description (my bad); it appears to have had a serious nerf since 3.5 in terms of what you can change into. I've only got the online pfsrd to hand at the moment, and there's no suggestion as to which, if any, abilities of your new form you get other than the ones listed. Do you get the stats or skills of the new form? If yes to skills, then Fluffy will alter himself into a Dark Creeper as they have a +8 Climb bonus according to the bestiary. If not, then I don't see any of the forms as useful (and it's such a useless spell now I will change it out at the first available chance) so he will cast Fly instead ![]()
![]() Fluffy fidgets excitedly. He looks at Sir Basil and seems to be about to say something, then appears to think better of it - worried that he'll be pestering the knight again. Next he looks at Jasper and opens his mouth. Then closes it again as the same thought strikes him. Eventually he shuffles over beside Huergar and whispers 'do you think it would help if someone was able to fly? Mr Finrod perhaps, then he could fire his bow at things if he had to'. He glances over at the elf, but appears too scared of him to suggest it to his face. ![]()
![]() It is easy to see where halflings get their reputation for surefootedness watching Fluffy backing along the branch in front of Sir Basil, waving his arms animatedly to illustrate parts of the long (and convoluted) story he appears to be telling the paladin. Despite the rough and gnarled surface of the colossal branch, his little hairy feet find stable places as easily as most would do walking forwards on a paved road. The downside for the unfortunate knight is that this means the stream of chatter is virtually uninterrupted! The garrulous wizard has somehow gone from the size and colour of the leaf he snipped on arrival on this plane, to a sport favoured among certain tribes of orcs which involves using the thighbones of horses to knock polished goblin skulls through coloured hoops set out on a field, taking in gnomish funeral dances, the correct way to pilot reed canoes and the largest strawberry he'd ever seen grown using only tea leaves as fertiliser along the way. Fluffy is just outlining the scoring system '...3 points for a red hoop, but only if you have played the previous shot left-handed, otherwise your opponent has the option to call 'mulagin', which, interestingly enough, is actually taken from the ogrish word for...' when he is aware that the others have stopped. Noting the direction of their gaze, he very slowly turns and looks behind him. Seeing the bizarre furry creature standing eyeing him, with a gulp, the little halfling whispers '...giant...squirrel...' Let's have a crack at Knowledge Planes then 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Fluffy, to the enormous relief of all concerned, is rendered speechless! Hope the exam went OK ![]()
![]() Fluffy, being blessed (or cursed, depending on your viewpoint) with a healthy streak of curiosity, immediately takes out his journal and starts scribbling notes and making some rudimentary sketches. He carefully makes his way a little further along the branch, stepping nimbly over giant sized knots and bulges in the wood, and occasionally lets out a 'whew!' or 'wow!' as he discovers something else 'interesting'. Once he has finished writing, he stows his book temporarily and, taking out a small knife, very carefully prunes a leaf from the tree. He opens his journal again and presses the leaf inside, preserving it for later. He turns and looks at the others and says 'isn't this grand' while waving his arms in an expansive gesture. 'Shall we try and find a way down?' ![]()
![]() Guthrem Haelfdang wrote: "Mr. Thistledown wait. If you allow me, I would join you." Fluffy hears Guthrem shout after him, and is momentarily confused to be addressed by his given name. With a 'Who? Me?' gesture towards himself, he waves for Guthrem to join him, and once he notices Jasper also getting ready to leave, allows him to make it a trio. 'They seem like an interesting bunch' he says as they exit the inn, obviously talking about the members of the Ironwood Company. 'I must say I'm pleased they are letting me go with them; it sounds a bit dangerous, but then', he looks around to see exactly who or what might be in earshot, 'so is this place. Only a couple of days ago a big blue-skinned fiend threatened to make soup out of me!'. The halfling shudders at the memory. 'Anyway, I'm going to pick up a few herbs and spices - it sounds like there should be plenty of things we can forage in the Beastlands, but I doubt we'll be eating any fresh meat for a while. And if we have to resort to my gruel, we'll need something to give it a bit of pep. Do you need to buy anything in particular?' he asks the other two ![]()

'Does that mean we are leaving in the morning?' Fluffy asks Corvax. 'In that case I've got time to nip out and buy a few things...' The halfling waves to the armoured duo, then hurries out the door. A few moments later he reappears. 'Er, where are we going to meet?' he asks Just stock up on a couple of bits of equipment, and change spells. I'm ready to go whenever the party are ![]()
![]() Given what Fluffy and Lyra have just remembered about the Beastlands and its inhabitants, I'd like to change some spells before we go. Happy to let me swap things or would you prefer I wait for a suitable break in the action? Also, I have to confess I'm not up on a lot of this planar stuff - what's a Spell Key, and which spells use the Ethereal Plane if I have to be careful with them? ![]()
![]() Fluffy nudges Corvax in the thigh and whispers 'I see what you mean about Sir Basil'. The halfling scratches his chin a moment, trying to remember if he had come across any useful information on the Beastlands in any of the books he has read. While scratching his head, Fluffy subconsciously activates his Luck domain power, allowing him to roll twice if you'll allow it... Trying a Knowledge (Geography) check if that is most appropriate? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 ,1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 - enough to recall an interesting and/or useful fact or two about the area? I'm thinking in terms of climate, terrain, potentially available food and water - basically trying to answer Sir Basil's question, but also see if we might need things like warm clothing (or sunhats!), rope for scaling cliffs etc if we are going to be having a prolonged stay. Fluffy carefully negotiates a path between the various people standing around until he reaches Sir Basil. He tugs lightly on the knight's cloak to attract his attention. 'Excuse me' he says, looking up at the armoured figure looming over him 'I can make sure we've got enough water to drink'. He shuffles his feet and says 'if the worst comes to it, I can conjure up some food too. It's just...' he looks somewhat apologetic '...not awfully tasty...'. ![]()
![]() Fluffy's face is a picture of concentration as he brings Havoreth's drink over, determined not to spill any. The tankard of ale looks huge in his small hands, and once he gives it to the big man, he hustles back to the bar to retrieve his own tipple; he climbs on a strategically placed chair so he is high enough to reach the bar, picks up his drink, and with a wave to the now scowling barman, clambers back down again. 'Your very good health' he says, raising his small cup to Corvax. 'Er, who did you say these people are?' he asked, gesturing at the rest of the group. ![]()
![]() The halfling has his nose in a small book bound in leather – from a distance it looks like badly sunburnt skin. He is so engrossed that when Havoreth shouts to him, he looks up distractedly and says 'my round? Just let me finish this...'. He reads a little further, then his eyes widen at something, causing a flush to appear on his cheeks. 'Outrageous!' he gasps, before slamming the book shut and looking around anxiously to see if anyone was watching. Hastily stuffing it inside his coat, he makes his way over to the two armoured figures. When he arrives, he has to lean back so he can look upwards at them, so small is he in comparison. As if noticing who the other figure is for the first time, the halfling beams and says 'hello Mr Corvax, fancy seeing you here. Would you like a drink?'. As soon as he says it, a look of realisation that he has been duped comes over him. With a pained glance at Havoreth, he shrugs and fishes about in his coat pocket. Pulling out an odd assortment of coinage, he looks back up at the two figures. 'I think I've got enough if your friends would like something as well?'. ![]()
![]() DM_Darkmeer wrote: Fluffy: You are 10 HP short, and you have memorized 1 too many spells at level 2 (all other levels are fine). The feat selection is fine, and eerything else looks okay. Thanks for being ready today. Thanks for the HP boost and sorry about the spell - I was a bit goggle-eyed by the time I had finished getting them all formatted last night! I've made the changes (and having looked at what my companions can do, have made a couple of changes to spells memorised) DM_Darkmeer wrote:
Will do. I'm working late but once I get home I'll go and introduce myself. Thanks again for letting me join you - haven't looked forward to a game as much for a while. ![]()

Thanks very much for the warm welcome - I'm really excited about the opportunity. I've been playing clerics, and magic-users, and cleric/magic-users since 1st Ed but I think this is my first Mystic Theurge ;) Hadn't realised just how many spells I would have until I had to sit and type them all in! I'm looking to make myself as versatile and useful to the group as possible. I usually shy away from big blasts, and from a quick scan over the other PCs, fight power isn't something we are short of so I'll stick to trying to make life easier for you guys! I have a few things in mind already that might be useful, especially for somebody like Huergar - us little guys have to stick together! Really looking forward to it. ![]()
![]() Whew! I need Endurance to just to get through typing and formatting all of that - it's taken me hours, not helped by a virus running loose round work this afternoon just as I was starting it. Hopefully everything you could conceivably want to know about Fluffy is in the profile. Please let me know if I've made any errors or need clarification on anything. I wasn't sure what the rule for HP was so I took max for 1st, then half each level after that. I also worked out how many spells he would know from levelling, then spent part of my cash allocation to buy some scrolls and scribe them into the book. |
