Well, when I said "I'm uncomfortable," you could have said "don't worry, I have plan. Ask me in character." I would have been very cool with that. You seem to be saying you don't want to do that now, but we've stopped at a perfect spot for it. Why don't we have that conversation in character now?

Well, first of all, I don't think any of us are here to reenact real life. I have enough of that in real life. Second, in my opinion, that's only rarely what happens and when it does, it makes the news. Third, respectfully, what you're missing is that it doesn't matter what her attitude was. Only the evidence matters. Officers are supposed to be professionals, not thugs with badges. So she got mouthy, so what? She didn't hide evidence (that we know of) or pick up a weapon or make threats beyond the very legal one of complaining to our superiors. She was aggravated and Evindyl responded by ratcheting up that aggravation. Why does she need any sort of a 'get out jail free card'? She's not done anything wrong that we know of. Other than annoy some cops.

Sure. I have no problems with good cop/bad cop, but that felt more like "Stormtroopers". We have zero evidence this person did anything wrong, other than a gut feeling. To me, good cop/bad cop is something you bring out when you know you have a perp or an uncooperative witness or whatever. Not just some angry woman who wants everyone the hell out of her shop. I just don't want us to be thugs. So, thank you for asking me to talk about it. On a closely related note, I hope I am -not- being a snowflake, here. One of those games where someone's too sensitive for the portrayal of a gruff or unlikable character. I hate that hyper-sensitive stuff. Which is why I said it made me uncomfortable rather than "don't do it." I just wanted to have a talk about what we all want out of this. Much as I would if I found myself in a game where other players wanted to portray evil characters. I have a feeling we may be saying the same thing, actually.

As a criminal defense attorney, let me say that not helping the police is not obstruction. Being rude to the police or suggesting their mothers had unusual partners is also not obstruction. It's darn rude, but it's not obstruction. Lying to them is, of course. Of course, perhaps in Absalom, those things are illegal. Shrug.

"Well of course we should. And we will!" says Felix, looking up at Agatha. "Come on, kid. What's your name, anyway? We'll go down to the station and you can make a statement. We'll look into this and see if anyone's seen or heard from your master. In the meantime you can't go invading people's shops. You let us handle this, alright?" A neatly-dressed gnome walks into the room. There are no garish colors or wild clothing, nor indeed much at all about him that might be called 'gnomish' save for his size, his pronounced nose and his improbably bushy mustache. His uniform is impeccable and his badge gleaming. His keen blue eyes take in the squad room in an appraising gaze. "I'm Domblevoster," he says. "Felix Domblevoster. I look forward to working with you. I've heard so much about each of you I feel as though I know you!" The sheaf of papers under his arm rustles, seemingly of its own accord. Huzzah! It is I, Felix Domblevoster, Detective! ________________________________________________________________________ “Naturally a detective doesn't want to look like a detective, and give the whole thing away right at the start.” ‒ P. G. Wodehouse, ‘The Man With Two Left Feet’.
Name: Felix Domblevoster
Quirk: Felix is so avid a collector of knowledge at any cost that he becomes dangerously incautious as to the source of that knowledge. "I must know!" is one of his most common phrases. It's gotten him into trouble at many libraries. He sees the hoarding of secrets as both stupid and a crime against the improvement of the intelligent races. Backstory: Felix is a native of Absalom and a former student of the Forae Logos. His ceaseless curiosity was both a blessing and a curse in the Great Library, but things got worse when he received a blinding vision from Nethys, a full-throated eruption of knowledge, understanding and akashic oneness that left him unable to speak for a month. After that, Felix had a strange effect on the written word. Pages flutter in his presence. Books turn toward him. Scrolls unroll and spellbooks mutter. After weeks of disruption, the Great Librarian suggested that Felix find another line of work. Despondent, Felix pondered his options until he overheard a conversation about how the Watch was looking for detectives. Finally! A place to work out his curiosity without wearing out his welcome! He enlisted the same day. |
