Double move to nearest opponent then.

Atk, Dmg vs. Nearest Opponent (1d20+6=14, 1d8+3=5)

Ithuriel, please DM NPC me for a while. I still have some court hearings to attend to.

Atk; Dmg at nearest enemy (1d20+6=14, 1d8+3=10)

"For my ancestor!"

I'm fine with that.

Prepared action; anything that draws near get slashed by the large scimitar.

"Form a line!"

What's that thing in J6 supposed to be?

For DM Ithuriel

Spoiler:
Sorry for the Late appearance. I'm alright with the spell cast.

Feanor looks for a likely place to set up an ambush for their unseen follower.

"Friends, though I have been in this city for quite some time, I am always amazed by its sheer magnitude. I suspect that architecture is not the only thing responsible for it. What do you think?"

To Var, "I see." Feanor unsheathes his scimitar and shoulders it.

"Lead on then friends."

Feanor asks:

"Where did you meet the halfling, the one who hired you?"

"While you were being attacked, did you observe anything that can help us identify your attacker?"

Need two more questions for our spirit here.

Feanor diligently asks the prepared questions.

Please see above.

"I have summoned your spirit to shed light into the mystery that is your death. If you will help us with accurate answer then I promise you that your killer shall be brought to justice." Feanor pauses, "Now, what is the last thing that you recall before the darkness of death took you?"

"Ok. How about possible questions?"

To my teammates:

Spoiler:
I'll leave the decision of who to ask and what questions to ask to you. Have some things to attend to in the office. However, I'd suggest that we cast the spell on the body of the person who had the most probable opportunity to look at their killer. That means evidence as to the sequence of their death becomes very relevant.

Ithuriel, the spoiler is just there to ensure that the message will be read. Cheers.

Feanor asks his partners for possible questions to ask the spirit.

"I have here with me a scroll which may allow us to communicate with the spirit of our dead victim. Suffice it to say I had to do a bit of diplomacy to convince the church elders to give me this scroll."

Feanor respectfully extends his gratitude to the Ascendant Councilor. He bows deeply, "Thank you, great one, for this boon."

At the appointed time, Feanor starts the ceremony. He invokes the name of the Undying Court and beseeches them to bless this evening’s rites. He correctly remembers the proper words and intones them with the right inflections.

Knowledge (religion) (1d20+10=29)

He focuses his mind, body and spirit to achieve one-ness with his ancestors.

Concentration (1d20+10=29)

He draws his scimitar and wields it two-handed in the manner of his ancient forebear who claimed this very same scimitar from the giant overlords. Feanor executes a series of slow deliberate strikes, signing the symbols of the Undying Court and that of his ancestor.

Scimitar Strike (1d20+8=23)

Feanor then sheathes his blade and starts signing mystical gestures . Faster and faster he goes and his impatience almost makes him commit a mistake but Feanor recovers just in time to properly invoke the signs’ power.

Spellcraft (1d20+12=25)

Feanor finishes, his hands folded in front of him.

"Your Excellency, I would be most honored in leading the rites."

Knowledge (religion) (1d20+10=17)

Probably was sleeping when this particular piece of minutiae was being taught.

Feanor-

High priest Jhaelian takes the pot and fills a small cup for his guest before he sits down. Then he offers his own cup for Feanor to fill, offering "May their eternal wisdom guide us always."

"Thank you, your excellency." Feanor accepts the cup.

DM Ithuriel wrote:
Mayne sips in silence broken only by his labored breathing, looking out over Sharn for some time before continuing in his harsh rasp. "Though I'm glad to share tal with an active hand of The Court any day, I gather you are here for more than tonight's ceremony. Your new work brings you? You find evidence of Vol's hand in Sharn?" The priest makes eye contact for the first time and his gray eyes are steely, his withered jaw clenched.

"Yes, present work brings me to you. Though I am not sure yet of the hand of Vol in it. However, I could use the assistance of the Church to discover just that."

"The investigation requires the use of a prayer to speak with the departed. May I borrow a scroll, excellency?"

Whatever may be the answer of Mayne, Feanor continues the conversation by asking about rituals that may require the deaths of clergy or the religious.

"I pray that I live up to the legacy of the Undying as Your Eminence has done."

After being invited to take some Tal, Feanor answers, "Of course I shall, Your Eminence."

Feanor waits for Mayne to sit down before sitting himself.

Just saw the post for me, which is quite a lot. Will post later tonight. Cheers.

Feanor says, "I think I'll go talk with some of my contacts in the religious community and find out their take on these recent events. Who knows... might get a usable scroll in the bargain?"

Janras wrote:
"Perhaps he tried to get treatment in different temples until frustration got that high, that he took out the priests responsible for the rejection of his queries. Or they tried unsuccessfully, too."

"That's still no justification to commit these murders."

"Yes, the author has an uncanny knowledge of the events."

"Aside from the apparent religious connection of the victims, do you not see any further pattern, Janras?"

"How about the time and place of death?"

"Nevermind, Janras, I've found who Rodothea Mate is."

"Janras, do we have a map of Sharn?"

"And do you know who or what is Rodothea Mate?"

"Let's divide the newspapers. That way we can do the job in half the time."

Taking twenty on the Search.

"Note the identity of the victims, the time of their death, the places where the bodies were found, and anything peculiar in the manner they were killed."

"Janras, we do have a subscription to the papers, right? Let's do the research here.

"Janras, do we have a list of the priests and religious attacked last week in the Cogs? By the way, who was the priest who got abducted?"

Follow-up spellcraft for Feanor DC 18** spoiler omitted **

After finishing with the corpses, Feanor takes a look at the flakes and ashes Janras is interested in.

"Grandfather, grant me insight into the arcane."

Casting Detect Magic

Spellcraft Check (1d20+10=26)

"Most disturbing. These things reek of necromancy."

Ithuriel, is it possible for Feanor to determine what sort of spell was used to create this aura?

The body safely inside the office's storage, Feanor pays the teamsters from the office's coffers. Then he locks the entrances securely, making sure to place the out for lunch sign on the door.

He then goes to the body to apply the substance that was given him by Janras.

Nani, you take it easy. We'll hold the fort here. My prayers to you and your family.

Feanor accompanies the teamster as they unload the "cargo." Taught to view death as another stage of existence, Feanor is not squemish about anointing the "cargo."

"Var, I'll stay here the office and proceed with the preparations. You and the others try to find out whatever you can."

"I suggest sealing off the area, if that is possible. This is a crime scene after all."

Listen Check (1d20+2=14)

"I need some time to meditate overnight to obtain the necessary strength and focus to cast the spell required. But I am not sure that the body will wait for that long. Perhaps, someone can talk to the watch regarding the need to sequester the body till then. Otherwise, the body might be buried or cremated beyond our reach."

"With some preparation, yes."

Yeah, someone talk to the Inquisitor. Unless you guys have no objections to me being the face model of the agency.

Completely failed all the rolls!

Sense Motive, Appraise, Heal, Search Checks, respectively (1d20+2=19, 1d20+2=4, 1d20+2=8, 1d20+2=9)

Feanor moves to a shadowed portion of the crime scene to observe. He uses his superb senses to read the lips of any one there.

Spot Check (1d20+13=33)

Feanor, covered in his voluminous black robes with his weapons jutting from behind his back, simply nods at Varlin's outline of the deal. He doesn't care much for the brusque manner of the halfling. Quite uncommon.

Knowledge (local) (1d20+2=7)

Feanor moves to the crime scene. He is careful not to step on anything that might be a clue.

Spot Check (1d20+13=21)

What does the competition look like?

Attacks on the clergy. I sure hope I don't become a target.

Regarding the name of the agency, perhaps we can name it after a fictional boss, in the tradition of charlie's angels and remington steele. We'll just be "associates."

"Townsend and Associates" has a nice ring to it.

BTW, Var the others in the party have taken care of the diplomacy and gather information skills.

I've updated my character sheet to include background and contact. You'll also notice that I've taken the liberty of using spells from "The Forge of War" and feats from the Player's Guide to Eberron.

Having served as a scout during the Last War, diplomacy doesn't seem like the proper skill for Feanor and focused instead on Spot.

I'm still finalizing my character sheet. I've set aside the 2,000gp for the office and setting aside an additional 2,000gp for upscale living expenses, leaving me with 5,000gp for equipment. BTW, can I use spells from the Spell Compendium?
