"You're right Felicia let's go!" Yadue whispers to his sister. Yadue takes one last look around the room for any components or useful items (OOC: only if relevant) Discern Reality: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6) + 2 = 13. He tightens his grip around his torch and net as he quickly, though quietly heads down the main path towards the shrieking. "Maybe we can get the jump on them," he encouragingly whispers to the rest of the party. Defy Danger: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9

GM Mogthrasir, if you haven't already noticed, I like to look for actions that my folks can roll on to keep the outcomes less prescriptive and more interesting. If I am over-doing it, please feel free to reel me in because I do not want to ruin the story or others' fun. You will have to try pretty hard to hurt my feelings. This group seems to have some great people from whom I am learning a lot. Many thanks!

Aurelia realizes securing the door is only a temporary fix. It is time to leave. With help from Durga she secures the door and the bar. The fire...we are getting out of here through the trap door so the fire should help buy us more time with the barred door. With her foot, she slides the burning torch to the other side of the hallway to spread the fire around a bit. Archie's piggie tail wiggles with excitement. Comforted by being near Aurelia, he waits for her like a loyal dog pig.

Yadue attempted to discern more of his surroundings in the cellar beyond the obvious details. Failing to notice more, he yells to the others above, "Quickly, come to the trap door and burn everything behind you! We can all get out of here yet!" He reaches up to help Key down safely.

Edited Jari's action based on Joe already helping her...

Jari had enough hard life experiences with flustered beasts to know it is wise for him to get out of Bevo's way. Bevo's mass alone will buy the group some time to exit, and it looks like Bevo plans to leave out the front door soon anyway. Hearing Yadue's call to exit, Jari decides to take his chances through the trapdoor. Suddenly, he wonders to himself "Where are those derned sheep?" Getting out of Bevo's way, Jari notices Lizbeth and Raina engaged with a dogman and instinctively takes a swing with his crook Hack & Slash: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8

"Aviel died so that we may live and fight on," Aurelia stoically reminds herself. With that, Aurelia quickly bends down to retrieve Aviel's whip and pats Archie on the head, "That'll do pig." Aviel realizes she must secure what she can of the door. Without giving a sheep, she picks up the door, places it back inside the threshold, and bars the door with the wooden beam. Defy Danger: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6 "Durga can you help me with this door, please?"

Jari grabs Fred's helpful wrist and thanks him on the way up. Noticing Bevo the Ox heading for the door with Lizbeth an unwilling rider, Jari tries to grab Bevo's horn to redirect his force against the table pushing the front doors closed. It would take twenty more dogmen to keep Bevo back! Defy Danger (DEX): 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 5) - 1 = 9

The sharp bite of the smoke flares in Yadue's nostrils and snaps him to attention. He realizes he needs to verify the trapdoor leads to an escape route and not their collective grave. Yadue grabs a flaming chair leg and hops down the trapdoor to verify the situation. Discern Reality: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6

"Sorry Felicia you are right. I will stay with you. We need to get everyone out."

Yadue breaks open the jar of cloves into the roaring center hearth.

Aurelia instinctively jabs her crook into the face of the standing dogman, "DIE!" Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6) + 1 = 12

Archie (the pig) senses Aurelia's excitement and bites at the dogman attacking Aurelia. [[How are we handling damage?]]

Aviel attempts to wrap her whip around the neck of the prone dogman and give it a massive yank Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6
"Bevo! Durga! Help!" Aviel panics.

Jari grabs hold of Fred's pants just as he hears Yadue yelling.

Jari assists Fred Aid: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

Yadue deduces this trapdoor is a way out, and reflexively pushes his sister into the relatively more protective darkness when he hears the commotion at the back door. "Trust me, Felicia I need you, at least, to get out of here."

"TO ME! I HAVE FOUND A WAY OUT!" yells Yadue.

"Aleph, the beasts are among us! Burn it all!"

My apologies. I forgot to make bonds. Fortunately, nothing affects the game so far.

Jari: I respect Key's commitment to friendship.
Yadue: I have much to teach Raina about learning from her dreams.
Aviel: I will learn Joe's secret about always relying on his brother.
Auriel: I trust Gavin for speaking poorly of corruption.

As Fred jumps on the table, Jari assists Fred by grabbing his belt to stabilize him during his attack and prepares to pull Fred back if any critter gets too close. (Does this add "+1" to Fred's attack?)

Yadue ponders the timing and use of his discovery of the cloves with his Master Tinker sister, Felicia. "Felicia, got any bright ideas on how we can get the dogs to sniff on this?" Yadue then shouts out his latest discovery, "I may have found another cache of gear or a way out. I'm taking a closer look..." Discern Reality: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 2) + 2 = 9

Aurelia goes to bar the door as Archie (her pig) trods down the hallway towards her squealing. Defy Danger: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (4, 1) + 0 = 5

Aviel wonders if her song is keeping Bevo from bolting out the front door. Only Deos can save anyone caught in his path! Defy Danger: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (2, 3) + 0 = 5

As Yadue searches around for something spicy, he finds something unexpected of potential interest/use, which is... ;)

Jari turns to Fred and asks, "What do you think, Fred? There is only room for one of us. I have me shepherd's crook for a little reach, but I don't want to get pulled out there too."

Aurelia quickly reaches over and bars the door with the wooden brace. Its no secret someone is picking the lock. No sense making it easy.

Aviel hears Bevo (her ox) snorting and getting fired up with the other animals. "Not yet, Bevo, save your strength." She then begins to sing a song hoping the soothing sound of her voice will ease the animals' tension a bit.

The moment Yadue saw the look in Felicia's eyes and the heard the tone of her voice, he realized he had re-focus. "Come on, Ya," he encourages himself. "It's time to put that noggin to work. This ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods."

Yadue thinks on what he knows about the dogmen Spout Lore: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 1 = 7 and fit it in with what has been going on recently to figure out what to do next Discern Reality: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 2 = 9.

With so much going on, Yadue struggles to focus. All he manages to come up with in his mind is, It's the Master who makes the dog. We have allowed ourselves to become an easy catch for a bigger fish. That's it!

Amidst the chaos, Yadue shouts, "These dogs are but minnows. There's a big, nasty SHARK what's out there! We're gonna need a bigger boat!"

Jari exclaims, "Wait Aleph! The only thing we need to burn right now is furniture. We can torch the place on our way out, but let's try to take a few of these dogmen out first!" Jari wonders, where did they come from and what in the name of Deos do they want?!

"Felicia! Come on, Sis. Give me a hand," coaxes Yadue. "The sooner we figure this out, the sooner we can check on Mom. If nothing else, grab a burning stick and crack some skulls or go see what the heck Jane is up to!"

Aviel Defy Danger at back door (3,5) +1 LUCK= 9.

Yadue realizes at this point if he can't set his net, he can at least cast it upon incoming do men to entangle them enough for the group to get some attacks in. Yadue looks around quickly for any pepper or spices (Discern Reality: 4,1+2 WIS = 7) he can toss towards any searching, sniffing noses. One less sense for the dogs is a plus for us!

Jari decides we should fight back a bit now with what we have to throw the dogs off than wait too late for something perfect. As soon as he gets a chair leg on fire at the end, he will take a swing at the first paw or snout he sees poking through the door.

Jari isn't buying into Gavin's faith in the guards. Jari starts breaking up some of the chairs to get the fire roaring and ready some flaming chair legs should any beasts break through. "One thing I know these beasts fear is fire. Let's burn every one of them! I'll get these chair legs a goin'. Hey! Key! Let me know if you can fire up any dogs out there from the loft window." As Jari builds the roaring fire, he starts to wonder how this all came to be. What or Who do these damned dogs want? Someone is holding out information.

Yadue will not be out-smarted by some damned dog. As he hastily fashions his fishing net at the door to entangle any breachers he crudely remarks, "Looks like the catch of the day will be dogfish! Ceridwen, feel free to harpoon these b!&*+es once they're in me net!" Though focused on his "fishing" Yadue keeps an eye on Felicia. He knows she can hold her own, but is always ready to protect her. "Hey, Jane, is now a bad time to remind you about that drink you owe me?" Yadue casts a glance at Jari as he is breaking the furniture and blazing the fire. As Jari looks around the room, he sees the wheels turning in Jari's head wondering...

Aviel and Aurelia rush to the back door to make sure it is barred. Compared to the oxen and pigs they wrestle daily, they should be able to keep any surprises coming from the rear. Aurelia shouts, "Aviel and I will hold the rear. Call us if you need us!"

Whoever has made the map amazing...wow...thank you! Impressive

•Where has the group taken refuge (where are you at the start of this adventure, described in the recruitment thread)?

We had gathered at the Town Hall Lodge to discuss the recent odd occurrences, the noticeable decline in our formerly "magical" stock, and the reduced level of security provided by Geon. The group had been discussing what has been going on and whether we should organize a village guard for investigation, protection and how we could get more aid from the Kingdom.

Jari came to the meeting at the end of the workday to voice his concerns and so see the King himself if necessary. He has no family left behind since his wife left him years ago.

Aurelia was sent by her old and bedridden father to attend the meeting on his behalf. She is terribly worried about her father who she left at home. Her mother passed away last year and her father's health has declined steadily.

Yadue had been at the Fishery cleaning his gear and preparing for the next day. When he heard the alarm, he ran to his sister's stall in the Market Square and saw a group of people massing at the Town Hall Lodge.

•Who here is kin to you?

In this village, the family tree resembles more of a wreath if you look back far enough. The community has traditionally been tight. Yadue and Felicia are brother sister [if that is acceptable to Omen--I think it could be fun]. Yadue got the brains and charm while Felicia got the brawn.

I am interested in participating without hogging the fun.

Jari has been losing sheep from his flock. He suspects beasts of some sort. Hmm...perhaps Jane can help me. If I can catch or kill these beasts my flock will stop behaving so weirdly or dying.

Yadue visits Fred. "Hey, Fred, when you gonna let me have at some of them worms from your worm farm? <haha>"

•What is its main resource? Jari, Yadue and Aurelia unanimously agree our town's greatest resource has been in the almost magical, high quality and abundance in its natural resources (i.e. fish, sheep/textile, pigs). Our stocks have been regarded as the best in the Kingdom since anyone's memory. Unfortunately, the quality and abundance seems to be diminishing. Unrelated to the War, the Kingdom seems to be paying less interest in our goods or securing the routes

•What is its relationship to the presiding Kingdom (if there is indeed a kingdom). Jari grumbles that Windsor's Mills is the teat the Kingdom of Geon ungratefully suckles from. For ages, we have provided to the Kingdom of Geon its finest goods, and all of a sudden, we rank below the likes of villages like Hollytown?! Aurelia proudly reminds the villagers how her babes keep the village clean and armies powered by bacon. Yadue thinks something <expletive deleted> stinks (and he is a fisherman)!

•What are the surroundings and geography like? With the exception of a narrow pass to the East and Frontiers to the West, an odd mountain range surrounds Windsor's Mills from the rest of the world. Fortunately, the Kingdom of Geon has committed resources over the years to keep the pass and travel routes secure. Unfortunately, Geon's support has decreased lately.

•The village has abundant resources (which increases its prosperity)! What makes its resource particularly abundant or beneficial? Most villagers believe Deos granted our lands with unique magic that produces the finest stock.

•The village is remote or unwelcoming. What makes this steading so isolated? The mountain ranges encompassing the village

•How do you resolve these? How has the village prospered from its abundance, in spite of its isolation? The Kingdom of Geon has protected the routes in the past, even throughout the War. Mysteriously, their support has significantly deteriorated, as has the quality of our stocks.

Quick question: Are we playing all three PCs at the same time as a squad, or are we injecting them into the story piecemeal as one dies off?

Alas, Aviel will not join this adventure. Jari, Yadue and Aurelia are ready!

If it's not too late, I have a group of bored adventure seekers who would like to join.
