Thank you. I apologise for having this occur in the first place. I have no excuse.

If Rorgrym decides to join us, then please welcome him.

Don't worry about it, these things happen. If Rorgrym is otherwise occupied then do give me a shout in the Serpent's Skull thread; I still think this looks like a fun group to play with.

I have a favour to ask of you - could you possibly relinquish your position in this AP? Due to a horrible miscommunication from my side I realise that one of the other applicants did a lot more effort than you in the roleplay (not to offend you - but in my selection process I did notice a lack of interaction from you, compared to your Serpent's Skull AP) - and to be honest, I do believe he may deserve the spot in this AP more than you.

I mean no offence - I simply made a mistake. Would you be content with the Serpent's Skull AP only this time, so I can correct my own stupidity?

Hey Patcher, no problem. He absolutely did put more time into the conversation than I did. I was as surprised as I was pleased to be selected, and guessed that you were judging on something other than effort :) Good call on admitting a mistake and deciding to put it right. Gotta respect that.

No worries, I'll enjoy Serpent's Skull and Evan will get a run out in some other game sometime. Wish I'd seen this before I polished Evan's stats and profile though (or done Avarthiel first)!

Everyone, have a great game.

Sorry. Bessy, get back here and leave Jonas alone. He's hung-over and doesn't need your help right now.

Cool. So we should definitely stock up on supplies for the expedition at character creation time. Fair enough!

Hell everyone! Thanks for choosing Evan, DM Patcher. I thought I might have been a little too laid back in the role-playing and blown the audition. Glad not. I'm happy with all your suggestions above.

That's gonna be an awesome front line :)

So I'm the only mainline healer, which will stifle my tactical / buff spell options for a while until we have adequate wands of CLW for everyone who can use one. Since my spontaneous casting summons badgers or whatever I actually have to prepare any healing I want.

I still need to complete my animal companion, equipment, background and appearance. I'll get to that tomorrow.

Welcome Nikor, it's a friendly bunch in these here parts and I'm sure you'll fit right in

Evan continues to listen as the conversation grows ever more philosophical, and folk both join and leave. I hope these people can explore and fight as well as they can talk. It'll be an easy life if so!

I also have one universal question that I wish for you to think about: How could I personalise certain aspects of this campaign for you? Are there any NPCs that could appear from your past? Heirloom items? Ect. Give it some thought.

EVAN FREEHAME
CG Halfling Druid (?!)

MOTIVATIONS:
Wants to create a strong kingdom with roots in freedom, to get rid of brigands and monsters.

ROLE:
Primary healer and support, with versatility all around.

TRAIT:
Pioneer

LEADERSHIP ROLE:
?

NOTES AND QUESTIONS:
Chaotic Good as Druid? Druids must be Neutral in some way or form. Why is he against slavery? What leadership role is he likely to take?

Ha. Good spot! I guess that's why you're the DM and get paid the big bucks. Evan is definitely Good, and then I thought aha! anti-slavery - that's Chaotic. And so the whole sorry mistake was made. He'll be NG :)

Evan has had a very privileged life so far - a good family, free to follow his passion for the wild and for travel, a kindly master in the druidic community. He wants every to have the best life they can - a true, if naive, idealist. You could think of him like one of those young trust-fund hippy environmentalists protesting against BP.

All his life he's heard tales of the hellish life of halfling slaves in Chelliax. He can't imagine anything worse than facing a short miserable lifetime toiling in the stink of a great city for an uncaring master. It's the antithesis of everything he thinks is good in the world. The imposition of one creature's will over another rather than the freely given companionship and mutual respect that he shares with his Animal Companion, is something that Evan regards as 'true evil'.

Possible hooks:
- Not everyone in Evan's extended family is as idealistic. In particular a pair of cousins on the borders of the stolen lands seemed to be falling in with a bad crowd.Where are they now and to what depths have they sunk?
- Any indication that the bandit groups of the area are taking, transporting, or selling slaves will arouse Evan's passionate wrath.
- Who is the Stag Lord, and is he connected to the druidic faith? Not every druid wants to see a balance of civilisation in the wilderness, some might feel that wilderness with brigands is a better situation. Can that be resolved without violence?
- Rumours persist that, in the time of Evan's gandfather, a caravan set out into the stolen lands to found a commune. They assured everyone that they would be welcomed and protected and safe. They did not say who or what would protect them and they were never heard of again. What did they know, what did they seek, and what did they find?

Possible leadership roles:
- Easy ones are the Councilor role or the High Priest role - particularly if we take Worship of the Green as a founding faith of the nation.
- An interesting alternative would be Treasurer. How does a nation balance economic growth with notions of stewardship rather than exploitation of the environment? What does it do to economic policy if the very trees can be unionised and if sentient hillsides own their minerals? Can liberal freedom of association, environmental stewardship, and feudal honor politics work as the basis of a successful nation?
- On the other hand that might all get a bit Political in a bad way, in which case, Councilor :)

Hmm - bit of an essay there. Hope it gives you some insight into where this character is starting from and where he could go. I know that there's some more work and tidying up to do on the mechanics, but I'll wait until after you've made a selection.

The first glass of wine, and the warmth of the room, go to Evan's head. He finds himself nodding along with all the strands of conversation, watching people come and go, without making any real effort to follow or contribute. They'll quieten down soon enough when the food arrives. Chance to have proper natter will come when we're on the road.

"Ah Jaska, I don't think we've met?" Evan grabs Jaska's hand and shakes it enthusiastically. "Good to see a fellow halfling among all these bigjobs here! The feast hasn't quite started yet so your timing is perfect. Oh, and I'm Evan."

"Right, right, hang on, don't worry, I'm here in time for the feast!" A lean, sandy haired halfling bursts through the ornately carved doors at the end of the hall, and continues talking as if all eyes are on him, and everyone had wanted to know when he would arrive. "Bessy and Hoss are settled in the stable so there'll be no more interruptions from that direction."

He pauses to look round the crowded hall, and his eyes widen a little at the strange crowd. Then he smiles, "Well and well-met everyone! I'm Evan. Evan Freehame. So who might you lot be? Don't be shy."

Questions and stuff:

This is the character that 'Art' posted above. Answers to questions repeated below. I am based in NZ, can post every day, and can't imagine anything better than mixing Pathfinder with Civilization!

Evan is an anti-slavery crusader who wants a strong kingdom in the south that respects freedom and keeps a balance with the natural world. His contribution will be through healing, summoning, and wilderness skills. Mechanically he will progress as full druid, with a focus on versatility and supporting his animal companion.

From a story perspective the early stages will be relatively easy for him - he has no love of brigands or aberrant monsters, and will enjoy the wilderness thoroughly. Conflict with fae or other druids will prove a challenge, and ultimately I'm looking forward to addressing the conflict between respect for nature, and bringing civilisation to the wilderness.
