That's unusual. I believe paladins are champions of good more than of law. thus any good seems a better fit.
This is my take on it as well, though I would also prefer if they were a prestige class. They are too niche compared to other core classes.

Well, that is a valid take, but I take a different view. From the class description in the PRD--

Quote:

Called paladins, these noble souls dedicate their swords and lives to the battle against evil. Knights, crusaders, and law-bringers, paladins seek not just to spread divine justice but to embody the teachings of the virtuous deities they serve. In pursuit of their lofty goals, they adhere to ironclad laws of morality and discipline.

Emphasis mine.

I see Paladins as less about pure good, as the good that comes out of order and following the laws set out in their 'holy scriptures.'

However, you could just as easy make the case for any of the Good alignments as well in your games. I just think that having to use the Lawful axis allows for the anti-paladin concept and LN is pretty much the Judge archetype.

I dont see how paladins being lawful allows for the anti paladins concept. They are chaotic before ever being lawful. They are about destruction and murder before they ever uphold anything in a "lawful" manner. I guess the argument could go both ways if you really think about it but lawful seems a little too much for an anti paladin.

Which of the two is better for what situations and what are the actual differences between the two? Which would you prefer for a stealthy rogue?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Why is Goblin on the list? They already had an entire player resource devoted to them! They could have had Gnoll instead IMO.

Option 2: If I was a dragon, I would enjoy a nice meal, especially if it came to me.

Crushing the back of someone's skull? Slitting their throat? Still the same effect, death. I agree Rouges are OP but either way, they get the job done, especially on a sneak attack regardless of the weapon.

Without a doubt there is no excuse for me not purchasing whether online or from a store. This already looks to be an amazing product (mainly due to my horrible mini painting skills). Can not wait till this is released!

When it talks about needing allies such as the Valkyrie to fight the monsters in the manuel, does that mean there will be/are new classes?

It's more of a revolution rather than terrorist activity because they are rebelling against an unfair government in which they are forced to live under. Princess Leia is more of George Washington rather than Osama Bin Laden.

Thank you, this helped a lot!

Thank you everybody! This has really broadend my level of understanding.

I plan on running the Black Fang's Dungeon adventure from the BB but don't know exactly how to be a GM. I've read through the adventure and marked some important notes but it doesn't explain certain situations such as, can the PCs choose where they want to go, or do they have to follow a linear path (Encounter 1, Encounter 2, Encounter 3, etc.)? How much of the adventure is verbal and how much of it uses pawns(Do the PCs continue to move their speed on the dungeon map even when not in combat? Do you move the pawns for passing traps in order to obtain treasure? or do the PCs tell you where they want to go, what they want to do, etc.)? These are really the most important things I need to know for the others just come with experience.

Thank you so much for all your feedback :)

P.S. Can you please answer my other question too? Thank you for your help :D

Throughout many different readings, the core rule book, etc. Time is mentioned greatly. I don't understand it! It says stuff such as "You can read 250 words per minute" or when crafting "week's worth of progress." How do you know what time it is when the campaign starts? How is time calculated? Is it calculated into rounds such as 1 round per minute? How do you know if it's the "next day?" How do you know if the PC needs to eat, or drink, or anything else? For spell casting characters, how do you know when it is the next day and you can cast your spells again (similar to the other question about calculating the next day)? What else about time should I know? Also, after a campaign when you enter a city for healing or purchasing new weapons and armor, are you supposed to have a map for the city too or is that completely verbal? When in a dungeon do you have to travel as a group or can you single handedly explore certain areas while the others go a separate path? Also, if possible, can somebody break down the Black Fang's Dungeon adventure featured in the BB? I just don't understand if you have to follow everything linear or if you can skip an area and ultimately skip an encounter or two.

P.S. The beginner box didn't really explain as much of the rules as I hoped so thank you to everybody for your feedback! :D

In my experience, the longest part of the game was learning how to play. So many things were confusing and so many things confuse me to this day that I continue to slowly learn. Actual gameplay ranges at about a 6-7 in speed for me, at least compared to some other games I have played.

Thank you Erik. I personally love the pawns for all of the reasons stated in the opening of the thread. Pawns are just so much more convenient and they don't require painting, which is something I fail to do!!
