I can trade, though I have never done event trading before so you may have to guide me through it :)

I for one plan to strongly pull for Torag, LG God of Dwarves and Crafting. We are a crafting settlement after all ;).

Edit: of course Torag isn't in 'yet'

Goblin Squad Member

I think the training in Blackwood Glade is capped to 9 due to lack of towers. You might try looking at the settlement training level. The trainers take the lower value of your company's support level and the settlement level.

I have had to train at Brighthaven due to this limitation in the past.

One of the things that excites me the most is: While I have been playing since day one of Alpha I started getting permanent XP on New Year's Day.

For the first time in a very long time, I now have a very legit reason to celebrate the new year. So Nihimon and Rynnik, I look forward to clicking glasses with the both of you each New Year in game.

Ok I got tears in my eyes LMAO to this. Guurzak never stop playing PFO I love the way you think.

Sounds about right and that 17% is shared between 4 active settlements (5 if BWG becomes active again).

The game should just let us rob the banks. It would take all that icky personalization psychology out of the picture.

Our bank was robbed. We should do something about that.

You have what you hold can carry from the enemy's bank.

That would make things pretty interesting now wouldn't it?

To me once the seige mechanics are in, it would make sense to be able to loot from the settlement you just destroyed. In a sense if bank robbers came in with an army they would indeed reap the benefits of being able to take down an entire settlement.

In my early years of TT I played a thief who absolutely stole from the local banks. So despite me playing in a non-aggressive group the thought of being able to steal something from a bank with the skills I have trained does appeal to part of my inner gamer.

I also imagine being able to loot from enemy outposts (banks in a POI for lack of better phrase). This would all of course have be much later in the development, but it would certainly change the way we all think.

The downside would be the potential player loss. Which would mean a happy balance would need to be found so players would still keep their subscriptions going. Not to mention the complications of programming such a feature, being able to defend against theft, etc.

Erian, just for clarification, here's how I learned of this non-agression pact. A Keepers Pass person -- I won't name him unless he says it's ok -- told me the alliance has a non-agression pact with Golgotha; that when they attack us all we can do is chase them out of the hex. When I asked why we don't simply box them in and kill them, he said we don't do that because we are the good guys. I thought that was pretty ridiculous, but if that's the way it was, then that's the way it was. So when Elsworth attacked me the first night, he was alone and I had every opportunity to kill him, but I just chased him out. BTW, I wasn't with the group from BwG last night that tried to PvP and lost; so I don't know anything about that.

But, at this point, it really doesn't matter to me anymore. I don't see the point of playing this game; I don't see anything whatsoever entertaining or "meaningful" about ganking others or being ganked. I'll let the sociopaths have their game. Mourn Blackhand has also indicated in the forum that he is disillusioned with the game and is leaving. Xilanthus is leaving BwG and moving further north to get away from the ganking. Nyrri might stick around; probably not.

You all are a fine bunch at Keepers Pass and I have also enjoyed our interactions.

Gol, I stand corrected. Sorry for being so touchy.

I deeply apologize that message was conveyed to you (I am not sure who it was). That has never been the case. I am sure there was a mis-understanding somewhere there.

Our Non-aggression with Golgotha has and most likely will always be specific to tower hexes and inside settlements. If you are attacked inside a settlement that would be a violation of the agreement. If Golgotha takes a tower owned by parties in the agreement, that would also be a violation. Banditry was never covered and therefore bandits killing travelers and looting the bodies is not a violation of the agreement. With that in mind, we have every right to defend ourselves against such banditry. So you killing Elseworth would have been well within your rights to defend yourself.

I in turn also enjoyed your company and the company of others in BWG. I am sad to see you go.

On a side note about PvP. I just had a conversation with my wife on how I am now emotionally detached from my toons. I think the detachment came from playing Darksouls obsessively for over a year.

I would say anyone with anxieties of being ganked in PFO should play Darksouls for a few weeks (online) and try to stay human the entire time. PFO would then seem like a vacation :)

I think part of the problem is that it takes a really long time to loot a body in the current system. Most of the time people just want their body back (for whatever reason, though I agree some of that is to get 'some' stuff back).

We have a 25% chance of losing equipment every time we die (from mobs or otherwise) a happy medium might be a straight percentage of auto loot to the bandit party that made the kill. Especially since threading is not in yet.

Dying is frustrating whither it is a mob OR bandit; in most cases even if the bandits are being 'respectful' as players and in the spirit of the game emotions are going to be high and literally everything said whither in gest, good humor, whatnot is going to be taken personally and a negative light.

I don't envy the devs for trying to strike a happy balance. I do think the word grief has many different definitions to a lot of people and its unfortunate this game was advertised as 'more than just a gank-fest' when the word gank has so many different meanings.

I know a lot of Keepers are getting upset feeling like they are being 'ganked' when the bandits are just being bandits and looting body's.

For what its worth I sympathize with both sides here since everyone has different features they consider fun. PvPers enjoy killing while PvEers just want to be left alone. I really just want to avoid losing players, especially ones I consider friends.

While in Huran's mind he was speaking clearly, his voice was barely coherent through the slurs.
"Thank you my friend I could have sworn I was just having a drink. It must have been poisoned and this must be the shrine. I always hate falling after a death like that."
He pauses then looks up.
"An that damn Pharasma sounds an awful like my other half."

Not too bad he exclaimed as he followed Guildenstern off the balcony.

Is it possible you were getting T2 wood from killing mobs? This has been the case for me during EE as well as in Alpha.

One case I can think of where a settlement (or deposite/withdraw list like Pino suggests) vault would be great is where someone has a craft order but plays in a different time zone as the crafter.

I have been trying to touch basis with someone from another company (same settlement) for days. It would be nice if I could drop off said crafted order in the vault for said person to pick up when they are online.

Goblin Squad Member

I think it's important to build a solid foundation and settlement plan. If you have a long term plan and a good foundation to build on, it doesn't matter if you 'had it first'.

Remember the larger the settlement the more they need to craft, the more training they need, etc. Getting that +2 armor only matters if there is a settlement member who can take advantage of it. Otherwise it could be a fancy looking +0 armor if in the hands of an untrained adventurer.

I play to enjoy the environment so, I take the time to meet the surrounding settlements and give aide where needed, make friends, etc.

That said, I really love this game so far and I have little care to have the first T2 item or be the best crafter in game.

No. Early Enrollment is free for Alpha accounts.

Thanks for the confirmation, that's what I was thinking.

I recall the Kickstarter rewards saying free EE for the Alpha level but in my Goblinworks account, I don't see anything that indicates free EE (unless it is implied with 'Alpha Enrollment').

That is a great idea, I think I will eventually use both the Rogue Kit and Trophy Charm on this build. So that solves the implement question :) Thanks.

Goblin Squad Member

I was mulling over a build that would reflect my tabletop duelist as close as possible and found myself torn at which armor and class feats I should take. So I am posting my thoughts here for any ideas/comments.

Background:
The concept I have in the TT version of Pathfinder is a street rat raised on the streets of Katapesh who later became a great swordsman through many street duels and self-discipline, etc.
The TT build crosses Rogue and Fighter then of course the Duelist prestige class. Now the challenge - translate that concept to PFO. Dirty fighting and disarming are common tactics.

PFO Build Details:
I am thinking going mostly with fighter/skirmisher feats peppered with some rogue feats/skills then appropriate gathering and knowledge skills. Something like the following for the first set of skills / feats:

- All knowledge skills, perception and stealth to level 1.
- Gatherer skill: Scavenger
- Light Armor, Light Blade and Bow proficiency (Rapier will be main longbows are commonly used in Katapesh)
- Light Melee and Ranged Attack Bonus
- Recovery, Fort, Will and Reflex Bonus
- HP to lvl 2 to start
- Power to lvl 2 to start

That all seems easy and straight forward here is where I get torn:
-------------------------
- Class Feature, I was thinking Light Blade Specialization
- Armor Feat, I am torn between Dragoon and Swashbuckler
- Implement, torn between Rogue Kit and Trophy Charm
- Attacks, I have no idea which are good/bad/basic I have predominately been testing my spell caster so I am lost in this area

This will be mostly my secondary character (DT). I am not in a real rush to build it as it will most likely sit and collect XP for a while.

Questions I ran into:
Is it better to specialize in a role or have mixed talents?
I would like to get into T2 & 3 weapons and armor some day does it seem feasible to stay at say role 2 Rogue and then stick to Fighter achievements until T3 or should I work on keeping Rogue and Fighter achievements the same?

I would like to have a happy mix of RP while portraying a skilled swordsman without hindering the build.

... the graphics are also on par with Istaria...

I'm sorry, but I don't see that at all. I just watched some videos of Istaria and those graphics remind me more of EverQuest. There are no shadows and the trees are blocky.

Example 1
Example 2
Example 3 - particularly useful because the character runs past a building with bolts of cloth on display.

Compare those to the GraphicsExample video shared here. The lighting effects alone are light years ahead of Istaria.

You get shadows on the better graphics views just like in PFO. It has been a while since I played but they were there. I didn't mean it as a bash toward PFO at just that it is steadily improving over time and I am impressed with what they have so far. Like PFO though videos and screenshots rarely portray the best of the best settings in a game. And my wife can't even see shadows on the fantastic setting of PFO so videos are very relative and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Edit: With that said, 'on par' was most likey the wrong term. I should have said 'similar to'. PFO does provide more detail on their terrain than Istaria.

I was looking for a suitably old thread to necro (in honour of the day) and instead came across one that I thought deserved a resurrection.

I'd appreciate if anyone who felt like it would offer two things. 1) What you'd say if you could only say one, honest, thing to try to get someone to try PFO. 2) What you'd say if you could only say one honest thing to try to stop someone from trying PFO.

1) I would have to go with the community on this one like a few others have. Most MMOS I have played only survive by their community. I think the community here is strong and a great group of people. PFO will survive if the community stays strong. It also has a fantastic crafting system like Nihimon pointed out. There is only one MMO that has a better system IMO and I am not sure that MMO is still going or not, but PFO has a lot of elements that remind me of Istaria: Chronicals of the gifted. Though as I say that the graphics are also on par with Istaria (see my answer to #2) and it was released in 2003.

2) The game does currently have dated graphics (I would say on par with games between 2000 and 2003) and is incomplete. Many players I know will not touch a game until it is fully developed and polished. To those players I would simply caution this game is currently being built come back during OE. I feel the graphics will be much better when the testing is over. I have already seen a remarkable improvement since I first played the game in February. Being tied to one settlement is also something most of my friends would not like. It's not bad just not a play style my circle of friends like.

Hope this is what you were looking for Cal :).

You didn't mess up in your ask, I missed the point of the questions.

Here are my revised answers:
1) I would say, "I am currently helping out in the development of a new MMO based on the tabletop game we play, Pathfinder. It has a great community where we can have development conversations and help each other both in and out of the game. We are on the ground floor of something great, it is awesome you should join the fun."

2) I would say, "Man this game may not be for you. While the community is great and I am enjoying myself, you would most likely hate it. We are constantly dealing with bugs and the game is currently incomplete. The graphics are old like that one game we used to play back in 2003, they are literally 11 years old. I would honestly wait to try it until the development is finished, I am pretty sure the bugs and graffics situations will be way better come Open Enrollment. It is currently basically going into a beta from an alpha."

Another very common fantasy trope is the hero only gets to die once.

Some might say that an unlimited number of resurrections is silly and immersion breaking. That's their opinion; Goblinworks seems to think that unlimited resurrections is importantant for the game design; game design being some balance of fun and meaningful.

What Pharasma giveth, Pharasma can taketh away. I'd be ok with characters holding onto whatever skills they have... up to the point of their death. So if you get kicked out of your town (or lose your town), Pharasma generously gives you one month to be a social animal and find your character a new town or retake your old one. After 1 month, though, at the next resurrection, the character suffers the full impact of not having town support. The rootless hero can avoid Pharasma's cold grasp at his skills as long as he can stay alive.

I really like this idea as well, it strikes a good balance of what I think Ryan is looking for and those looking for a story idea for the power loss.

I think I will stick some Dwarven Steel Blanks out there as well.

Goblin Squad Member

I just tried again and the number increased this time. Was able to get 71 of 80 items posted in Keepers Pass AH.

Goblin Squad Member

Ok so I will have to try again, last time I tried the limit was no lie and I literallly could only post 5 things to sell.

Goblin Squad Member

Not terribly recent (alpha 12), and I think it had a lot to do with where he was standing and using the longbow. They did eventually spot him then the onslaught of Thornguards occurred.

Goblin Squad Member

I remember Sspitfire doing some testing with low rep, stealth and attacking in Rathglen a while back. I got to be a test victim to see where the Thornguards would agro at and how close to the guards a player could kill another player without them caring.

It was interesting to see my dwarf get murdered right in front of a Thornguard and they didn't even flinch.

Goblin Squad Member

Does a 'teammate' get flagged red if they are in the same party as you are? Seems to me party members should be able to heal other party members but not the red flagged enemy.

Or is the bug that red flagged players are red to everyone including their party members?

I was never actually in a party while PvPing at Brighthaven the other day.

This happened again. So you have fixed part of the desynch, but not all of it. Having all of your character abilities desynch so you have to relog while your character us still in the game is still a crash bug.

This happened to Nadya and Dorin on the run from Rotters Hole to Keepers Pass, it only happened once though and I think it was on the edge of the Rotters Hole hex. It resulted in my death so I did not have to log out. Dying and being teleported to a shrine fixed whatever issue was going on. Though Nadya did not die and was also fine after a bit with out a relog.

One other oddity (though a minor one). We were running while encumbered and Nadya would get a burst of speed while crossing a hex border (every border) almost like the server forgot she was encumbered between hexes. This only happened once for Dorin though.

I posted a bunch of T1 recipes listed in the "don't come empty handed" thread. I also have some +1 copper bars on me (though I think a fair number will be claimed by Nadya). I made 120 in total which yielded a few +2 and +3.

Azure Crystal +3
Basic Firewood +1
Basic Leather Sheet +1
Cold Iron Ingot +2

Steel Blanks +2
Stocking Cap
Student's Holdout Weapon
Yew Shafts +2

Character's name is Dorin.

I tested this a few weeks ago, power does not seem to regenerate at all outside of a settlement. Inside a settlement it recovers at the rate already stated though only while being logged in.
