What Ekan said...you didn't have to pick up that banner when I asked around for a GM to run RotRL all those years ago, but you did, and you've made it amazing for us. And to top it all off you've planned for the possibility of someone taking over from you, meaning you're not just talented but responsible too! Thank you for everything, Dragoncat! <3
Just so you all know, my posting may slow a little going into May: I'm struggling to keep up with my posting between work and getting ready for my best friend's wedding (I'm a groomsman!).
Eostre grimaces a bit. "Thoughtful, cautious type, my fat ar$e..." she mutters as she follows the boys.
"They're ghouls, like Foxglove got turned into, they've got enough survival instinct to be predators," Eostre replies. "So much for the element of surprise, though."
Hey Conner! While we're waiting for Dragoncat to finish their exams, may I move my fireball through your space? I don't want to hurt your character without your consent.
"CONNER! MOVE YOUR SHINY, METAL A$$ SO I CAN GET MY SPHERE THROUGH HERE! Eostre barks.
"Let's have a look then," Eostre says, as she continues down the tunnel. "*COUGH-COUGH!*"
Eostre rolls her eyes, but doesn't say anything, grateful that Nicat seemed to ignore the opportunity to rub it in. She takes a deep breath and begins to enter the smoke-filled tunnel.
Eostre gives an annoyed sigh. "Fine! But don't blame me if this manor falls down on our heads and that fortune of platinum up there is all ruined and melted!" Eostre waits for the others to get clear of the tunnel and then conjures her flaming sphere. Then, she rolls the sphere down the tunnel directly into the mold patch.
Feeling the need to clarify, Eostre adds "What I mean is if I torch that stuff with a spell, the ensuing fire might spread out of control and bring the whole house down on our heads."
"Nicat, focus," Eostre says, trying not to get too annoyed. "Given all the haunted sh!t relating to previous fires in this house, do you really think more fire is a good idea?"
Eostre looks over at Nicat. "You're the expert here, not me."
Eostre looks at the particularly well-made pickaxe and back at Conner, who she notices eyeing it. "I think it we hug the wall we can avoid getting too close to the mold and grab those tools. Even I know how to swing a pickaxe...though my glaive is still my preferred weapon."
Eostre frowns as Nicat chides her. "I'm an archaeologist, not a botanist!"
"Watch your step!" Eostre cautions. "I don't know what that mold is, but it doesn't look like it'd be good for our health."
"Lets try the north one," Eostre whispers.
Tis cool. You ARE starting a new game too, after all. ;)
Eostre nods, following Nicat's and Conner's instructions.
Eostre grimaces at the sight of the monster and listens to Ekan's statement, knowing exactly what he meant from that one word.
She is so repulsed by the skaveling's gory meal that she doesn't see beyond it.
Eostre looks at the others expectantly, as this has apparently become a vote.
I thought this haunted house seemed a little empty...and being in a different Carrion Crown campaign with you, one where those haunts have nearly killed my character once or twice, I know what you mean about haunts. In short, I agree with Nicat. 'Tis cool! :) Sorry it took so long to post. I meant to log on after work but yesterday got yanked on a shopping trip by my mom, and then today had to wait around the MoA for most of the afternoon for her to get off work since my dad was driving my brother to a pair of bagpiping gigs out in the middle of nowhere! Missed my monthly RL D&D game too. :(
Noticing her arcane lights fading, Eostre snaps her fingers a few times with an annoyed look on her face, and they flicker back into brightness. "This is more for your lot's benefit than mine. Dwarves can see in the dark just fine."
When Nicat suggests picking the southwest tunnel, Eostre purses her lips. "You sure, Nicat? Might want to try and scout ahead or something. I'd hate to face down Foxglove only for our escape to be cut off by something from these other tunnels we ignored."
"Presumably because he was the source of them. Of course it wouldn't harm its originator, much like how I wouldn't be harmed by spells I cast," Eostre replies. "Let's get you fixed up. No sense in fighting the enemy with pre-existing wounds."
"Looks like it was a haunt, just as I suspected. Though usually the hallucinations they cause drive people to self-harm, rather than causing the harm directly. Whatever happened here was either incredibly violent, powerful magic was involved...or both."
Eostre thinks on whether she's read anything about this phenomenon they're witnessing.
"I think I'm starting to get a clearer picture of just what happened here," Eostre says to no one in particular. "Aldern and Iesha move up here, something happens that causes Aldern to kill Iesha. Mad with grief or maybe panic, he starts digging up the floor down here to hide her body, and finds a bunch of ghouls buried under the house. They tear into him and make him one of them, while Iesha becomes a revenant. So falls the House of Foxglove, I guess." It's clear she's trying to keep her mind occupied in the face of the sheer horror they've gotten wrapped up in.
Eostre's eyes widen and she grimaces as Conner is seemingly attacked by an invisible force. "I'd say it actually happened, Conner, and if my hypothesis is correct...you're reliving it."
"This is his house. Either he or some relative of his was working on becoming a lich. Think it through," Eostre replies.
Eostre strokes her chin. "Hmm...if you're seeing him but we aren't, then maybe you're seeing a psychic imprint of something he did here, kind of like how some ghosts will repeat the actions that led to their death over and over. Either that, or Aldern's picked up some new tricks in undeath and he's messing with your head from afar. Either way, we gotta push on. You say he's digging? Well, let's make that hole his sodding grave." She begins marching after Iesha with renewed purpose.
Eostre sniffs the air as they follow Iesha. "Odd...it flared up for a moment and then faded. The smell should be getting stronger as we're getting closer..."
Don't forget to stay hydrated and get a good night's sleep! I know when I'm lacking both of those I don't have the energy to post.
"I'm a transmuter, not a necromancer! These texts would only be of academic interest to me, but even I wouldn't want to become a lich!"
"You're...um...welcome!" Eostre replies as Iesha strides ahead. Eostre waves the others after her and follows Iesha, then gapes at the windows and books. She knew an arcane lab when she saw one...
...and especially what someone with that many necromancy texts was doing with it. "Lichdom...no question about it. If whoever gathered all these books was after that, then it's no wonder the stain of evil's all over this place!"
"I think you're right, Nicat. Everything about this place feels...wrong...if what we've seen before has taught us anything it's that evil stains the places it happens in. Just like under Chopper's Isle. I wouldn't be surprised if we found another runewell or some equally dangerous magical nexus under this house." She assists Nicat in scooping up the money. "We dwarves have a saying, 'tomorrow may not come,' from our god Magrim. Never put off something, since you never know what the future will bring." As they return to Iesha, the smell makes Eostre's eyes widen. The memories of Paulinus' and Lonjiku's grisly deaths start creeping back into her mind. It seemed that everywhere they went was scarred by fire... "W-we found it, Iesha. I'll get that door open for you now," she says nervously as she does so.
Here and ready to roll!
Eostre watches with increasing incredulity as the rats guide them upstairs, noting the various semi-scholarly bric-a-brac scattered about. She winces a bit as the rats knock down the painting and then her eyes widen when they reveal the cache of money and the key. She leans down to accept the key from the rat. "Um...thank you?" she says. "Well...let's get that door open for Iesha...then we can come back for this money. I imagine Iesha won't have much use for it once she takes her bloody vengeance."
So you're going to stick with us for now? Thank you so much! *e-hug*
Dragoncat, if that's how you feel, we can start looking for a GM to continue on with so you can take it easier. I'd say neyond a doubt this is the best AP PbP I've ever played in, thanks in no small part to your skills, and if you feel the time has come to pass the torch, then I think I speak for all of us when I say we'll be happy to help you find one. <3
How many of us are still here and still want to keep going? I'm scared the game will collapse soon. :(

You're the GM here. It's your decision. I understand how busy the holidays are, so take as long as you need. :)
"Undead are nothing if not single-minded. Besides, if she were going to look herself, she wouldn't have asked us," Eostre replies.
"I highly doubt it. Nothing in this house has acted 'naturally.' At least they're not trying to bite us," Eostre comments as she continues to search.
