Description Like most warforged, Engineer #3 stands taller than a common human, with dark grey, almost black metal plating. Their surface is generally burnished to a fine sheen, just shy of a mirror finish. While traveling, they typically wear a well-carved suit of leather lamellar, a stout backpack, belt pouch, and not much else. Over that, Engineer #3 drapes a dark green wool and leather cloak with a hood, mostly to keep the rain off but also to disguise their form a bit.

On closer inspection, one might note a slight discoloration at his bicep and right shoulder, as well as just above the left thigh. It looks as though someone with considerable skill and attention to detail repaired and reattached those limbs, previously severed, as well as performed extensive repairs on the warforged’s torso, neck, and head. The remaining damage appears cosmetic, the scars and dings of a worn and battle-tested war machine.

Backstory: Originally designed for a combat support role as well as executive protection for Cannith magewrights, the tides of battle and the Treaty of Thronehold saw Engineer #3 left adrift in Khorvaire. They attempted to learn more about the construction of the warforged and the secret of awakening such constructed creatures to sentience, but to no avail. Somewhere in the Eldeen reaches, they were found by agents of the Lord of Blades, who simply would not take “NO” for an answer. Refusal to join their cause resulted in Engineer #3’s eventual destruction and dismemberment. Somehow, someone found the remains of Engineer #3, as well as the pieces and parts of those warforged they destroyed in their fray, and brought them to Sylbaran. There, the esteemed blacksmith and tinker of the town managed to reassemble the warforged, where a spark of life stored deep in the core re-emerged.

Engineer #3 is different now, they know that, but just how and why still eludes the warforged’s thinking. For now, they have settled into a routine of work at Clamor, intending to pay back the blacksmith for her kind services in returning them to life.

"This unit has regained functionality. Last orders included deferment to Magewright Tara ir'Cannith and protection of same. Recent repairs detected, including catastrophic damage to limb and central support column. Query: where is Magewright Tara ir'Cannith. Follow-up query: where is this unit currently located?"

Greetings, GM!

I think I will revive Engineer #3, but switch them from being a Psion to a Soulknife, leaning towards the defense and punchy role and away from the psionic powers route.

"I see that several of my adventuring companions have entered consideration. That is most curious."

Rusty Dragon:
"Companions, do we have a plan for further interactions within this community? If there is the oportunity for money, I suggest that be a primary point of investigation. Secondarily, this town may house psionically active persons capable of instructing me in greater powers. Likewise, there may be an arcane scholar able to perform the same for you, Friend Wizard Daxur."

Engineer stands near the door, cleaned and re-equipped. Bits of light and color spark out occasionally from around his armor plates and joints.

"I stand ready to assist in whatever tasks this group decides."

Combine their stealthiness with a night time approach and an unlocked door, and that creates a recipe for tragedy. Many lives would be lost, and much property destroyed."

Once again, despite speaking about the razing of this very nice town, Engineer's voice holds no emotional tones. He remains flat and uninflecte in his timbre.

Washing up at the inn [/spoiler:
"I am limited to organic compounds in my crration power, and this particular solution offers a number of useful characteristics. I can adjust the molarity of solution easily enough, so as to allow for dissolution of organic contaminants on my frame while refraining from damaging the structure beneath. The fumes are non toxic, and relatively benign to most palettes, and help to remove any stray moisture on my frame. Finally, if I had access to some sodium bicarbonate, I could apply that as a thin dusting then use the acid solution to cause an energetic reaction which yields quite satisfactory cleaning results."

Bits of light shoot from Engineer's joints and eye lenses as he cleans up and converses. The vinegar he manifests lasts only a short time, before evaporating into thin wisps of ectoplasm.

Once satisfied at his cleanliness, he stands by the fire and allows it to thoroughly dry his massive frame.

"Did you have a suggestion, keeping in mind the organic nature requirement and desire for mild acidic pH, Friend Daxur?"

At the Inn...:
"Thank you, Proprietor Ameiko. I do not require sustenance or bathing. If you have a metallic or ceramic vessel wide enough for my stance, that would be appreciated."

Assuming the inn has such a basin available, he removes his pouches and gear belts, hanging them to dry. Once standing in the tub, he brings forth a fairly strong solution of acetic acid and bathes his shell. Using a bit of rag he scrubs any remaining road dirt or detritus from the nooks and crannies. Once clean, he re-arms himself and takes up a place near the fire.

Engineer looks at the professed chair, evaluating if it could withstand his sizeable mass without failure. If not, he conjures a simple oak post, round and solid, from ectoplasm upon which to sit.

"I was unable to glean the true numbers of the goblins, but there were more than a score. Perhaps 30, perhaps a few more or less. Their leader seemed larger than the others, and spoke in a loud voice. He commanded us to relinquish the wagon where Citizen Ven kept his goods. Faced with such insurmountable odds, we had no choice but to retreat."

Engineer pauses as if to allow his. Ompatriots to chime in before continuing.

"The goblins took the wagon while holding live flames openly. That did not end well, as the cargo included a sizeable amount of fireworks. The remaining goblins who survived the blast scavenged what they could before fleeing. A few chose to engage us in direct combat, much to their disappointment, I would hazard."

Due to the rain and roadway conditions, we proved unable to track her movements, and assumed she proceeded towards Sandpoint and the relative safety offered here."

Engineer delivers the facts in his deep baritone, almost monotonously. He does not seem overly concerned that the unarmed non-combatant female is apparently unaccounted for at this time.

Essentially, when faced with a potential threat which has articulated an intention to harm, the moral imperative not to engage in destructive acts becomes moot."

Engineer continues walking and waxing philosophical about the nature of warfare and destruction. As he speaks, sparks of light emit from his joints & eyes, seemingly randomly.

"Using such an idea, one may justify all kinds of otherwise indefensible actions. Your force of Defense becomes an early-strike opportunity. Their focused abilities, combined with the unaware state of the foe, would prove quite dramatic."

Engineer seems oblivious to the idea that this is NOT what Khravos suggested with his words.

Engineer #3's Answers for Questions.

(Image also linked on sheet, now)

What is your character's plans for the upcoming week?

Engineer intends to finish the journey to Sandpoint, delivering the NPCs safely and securely. Once at Sandpoint, he intends to seek out any sources of magical or psionic energy and mediate at that location.

What is your character's plans for the next month?

Once at a place of relative calm and quiet, Engineer desires a studio space where he can access quality crystal and stone. He has a craving to resume his sculpting and crafting, feeling his skills have begun to atrophy due to lack of use.

First time character felt "love"?

Spoiler:

Traveling through the deep dungeons below Cauldron, Engineer felt the same as he ever had. During the "day," he fought and manifested at the front lines, protecting his compatriots to the best of his ability. During the times they rested, he maintained and repaired all of the equipment used or damaged.

One morning, the team's rogue Beauregard woke early, seeing him at his work.

"What are you doing, Three? How come you're oiling the limbs of my crossbow?" the halfling asked, rubbing sleep out of his eyes.

Quietly, in his deep baritone, Engineer responded, "I do not require the time overnight that the rest of you do. Rather than sit idle, I chose to fix and maintain the equipment. Would you prefer I not?"

"No, no, that's all fine and well," Beauregard responds as he begins packing up his bedroll. "Don't feel like you have to do that, though. You aren't my servant or anything, Three."

Engineer sits, pondering the statement. "I understand. I choose to help you, as friends. From my observations, this is something comrades do for one another. We are friends, correct?"

Beauregard smiles and nods, "Yes, Three. We are friends."

Grapple Rules wrote:

Grapple

As a standard action, you can attempt to grapple a foe, hindering his combat options. If you do not have Improved Grapple, grab, or a similar ability, attempting to grapple a foe provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver. Humanoid creatures without two free hands attempting to grapple a foe take a –4 penalty on the combat maneuver roll. If successful, both you and the target gain the grappled condition (see the Appendices). If you successfully grapple a creature that is not adjacent to you, move that creature to an adjacent open space (if no space is available, your grapple fails). Although both creatures have the grappled condition, you can, as the creature that initiated the grapple, release the grapple as a free action, removing the condition from both you and the target. If you do not release the grapple, you must continue to make a check each round, as a standard action, to maintain the hold. If your target does not break the grapple, you get a +5 circumstance bonus on grapple checks made against the same target in subsequent rounds. Once you are grappling an opponent, a successful check allows you to continue grappling the foe, and also allows you to perform one of the following actions (as part of the standard action spent to maintain the grapple).

Move: You can move both yourself and your target up to half your speed. At the end of your movement, you can place your target in any square adjacent to you. If you attempt to place your foe in a hazardous location, such as in a wall of fire or over a pit, the target receives a free attempt to break your grapple with a +4 bonus.

Damage: You can inflict damage to your target equal to your unarmed strike, a natural attack, or an attack made with armor spikes or a light or one-handed weapon. This damage can be either lethal or nonlethal.

Pin: You can give your opponent the pinned condition (see Conditions). Despite pinning your opponent, you still only have the grappled condition, but you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC.

Tie Up: If you have your target pinned, otherwise restrained, or unconscious, you can use rope to tie him up. This works like a pin effect, but the DC to escape the bonds is equal to 20 + your Combat Maneuver Bonus (instead of your CMD). The ropes do not need to make a check every round to maintain the pin. If you are grappling the target, you can attempt to tie him up in ropes, but doing so requires a combat maneuver check at a –10 penalty. If the DC to escape from these bindings is higher than 20 + the target's CMB, the target cannot escape from the bonds, even with a natural 20 on the check.

If You Are Grappled: If you are grappled, you can attempt to break the grapple as a standard action by making a combat maneuver check (DC equal to your opponent's CMD; this does not provoke an attack of opportunity) or Escape Artist check (with a DC equal to your opponent's CMD). If you succeed, you break the grapple and can act normally. Alternatively, if you succeed, you can become the grappler, grappling the other creature (meaning that the other creature cannot freely release the grapple without making a combat maneuver check, while you can). Instead of attempting to break or reverse the grapple, you can take any action that doesn't require two hands to perform, such as cast a spell or make an attack or full attack with a light or one-handed weapon against any creature within your reach, including the creature that is grappling you. See the grappled condition for additional details. If you are pinned, your actions are very limited. See the pinned condition in Conditions for additional details.

Multiple Creatures: Multiple creatures can attempt to grapple one target. The creature that first initiates the grapple is the only one that makes a check, with a +2 bonus for each creature that assists in the grapple (using the Aid Another action). Multiple creatures can also assist another creature in breaking free from a grapple, with each creature that assists (using the Aid Another action) granting a +2 bonus on the grappled creature's combat maneuver check.

"It would appear our oversight regarding combustion sources was self-correcting," Engineer states as he helps Daxur up off the ground.

"That is an error I shall correct as soon as possible. I am sure there must be a way to excite an item through psionic means. The production of heat without a typical point of ignition would prove most useful."

The warforged's gaze becomes more distant and several glints of light shine from beneath his plates as he proceeses that idea. "I shall have to ponder on that."
