Can I get a quick answer for this when you get the chance:

Edit: Would you allow the Psionic Knack trait, even though it's not an ocean themed trait?

Perhaps better, would you allow Prestigious Spellcaster to work under the Psionics/Magic transparency rules?

Sure the feat is fine.

Whatever work AGamer70. Aquatic races can work pretty well in this campaign, whether a merperson that can get legs without sacrificing something to a caecaelia (aka Ursula from the Little Mermaid) to a reformed sahaugin.

In fact, undines are an interesting choice.

I've picked two traits for the character, let me know if they're okay for the setting.

One is River Sniper, though the "reflavour" should be something like Canal Sniper, probably, since the character pilots a boat through the canals in the Merchant district (and sometimes Shadowshore).

The other is Tropical Upbringing - being Sasserine in a tropical area, I thought this one would fit a native.

They're not pirate or sea related, but I think they work fine. Do you agree?

Both of those would work fine.

Lambda-42 Manticore wrote:

Ok, this is Ouachitonian's submission. I'll add a picture when that works again. Lambda-42, called Manticore by his friends and shipmates, is an Aberrant Aegis Warforged. As an Aberrant Aegis, he is constantly tinkering with his own form, adding or removing various parts (usually mechanical), hence his nickname. His standard configuration is built for life at sea, with enlarged, flipper-like feet and elongated arms and fingers for climbing rigging (ie, he has the Swim and Climb customizations). He is durable, and capable of using any regular weapon, though he prefers a boarding pike (or slam for those foolish enough to try to get inside the pike's reach).

Basically, he's a fairly generic martial. He can use any weapons or light armor. He'll be using customization points to improve his fighting capability, for example by adding tentacles, stingers, enhanced ability scores, natural armor, DR, etc. Eventually he'll be a bit of a natural attack nightmare*, and still able to carry a pike for reach and naval flavor (as if tentacles weren't good naval flavor too). The background's lighter than I'd like, I'm wholly unfamiliar with Greyhawk. I've also slightly reflavored his pair of spring-loaded wrist sheathes to be compartments built into his forearms (holding a pair of daggers currently). And those Swim and Climb customizations give him a Swim speed of 30 and a Climb speed of 15. Get to the Crow's nest? On the double, captain! Get that man overboard before the sharks smell him? On it!

*GM permitting, an Aberrant Aegis can get 4 tentacles, a stinger, body-mounted "armor" spikes, Improved Unarmed Strike-equivalent, and more spikes he can fire at range, all with customization points. And warforged get a natural slam. And there's warforged feats for a bite and an extra slam. That's what, 8 natural attacks plus the choice of IUS or Armor spikes as a "manufactured" weapon? (Or just...

Sure. 4 tentacles as secondary, a stinger as secondary, a bite, and the two extra arms. A slam would take up an arm attack. But that's no different from a synthesist summoner, the warforger (warformer?) from Complete Fighter, wild shape, or any of the vivisectionist alchemist wereboar skinwalker shenanigans, or paying for fleshwarped arm grafts and so on. And then you have improved size, powerful build, etc. However, all of those cost more points out of your customization pool, and leave you less for other things.

As for selecting adamantine, you could always act as a ship anchor, a catapult rock, or a small tugboat.. rings of free action are always a nice touch

In addition as an FYI for the group, don't worry if you submit a "standard" character and think it can't compete or won't count for a submission. I treat all submissions with equal weight to get into the game, since I know that some people get concerned with non-standard races outshining the big six or just being taken for non-RP purposes. That's not my goal in running this. My GM style is that heroes can come from any form of background or race/ancestry, and that actions shine more then words.

Also, I like what I have seen so far for people selecting gods like Dalt or Xerbo. The Greyhawk pantheons have 6 major human groups, all of the standard non FR or Eberron gods, and more besides. I'm a big fan of divine interaction, so beyond the normal "worship god, goddess, philosophy, ideal, get spells routine, " I'll often have servants, avatars or even the deific being itself communicate with divine peeps.

As for psionics, Greyhawk (or Oerth) has mind flayers, aboleth, planar travelers like the gith races, Xan Yae the goddess of psionics and monks, her servant Zuoken that defeated an entire army through martial and psionic prowess, derro, and more. They're rare in many of the eastern lands (Greyhawk flips the traditional West/East Earth separation so European lands are in the east and Northern Africa/middle eastern lands are in the west), but in Bakluni (Arabic/Persian/Bedouin) lands such as Esbit, Zeif, and so on, they are known as Edel, the hidden power. Zuoken vanished from Oerth about 89 years ago, but his divine servants still receive spells and try to find out where he ended up.
Xan Yae searches for her servant and acts as another source of support for Zuoken's faithful.

Last but not least, for those submitting characters, please come up with idea or event that made you an adventurer. If you already have, you're solid. Also I apologize for the delay in responding to questions, since my Internet and phone have been acting up the last couple of days.

Oh PS Spelljamming (for those of you old enough to remember it or have heard of it through the ramblings of grognard 2e D&D players), exists as well. So does Sigil, aka the City of Doors made famous in 2e's Planescape setting, the Torment PC game and its spiritual sequel, and multiple books over various editions. So don't forget to learn the chant, berk!

Make sure you pronouce the city's name correctly though!

So I was bored at my kid's basketball practice, and did a reroll to accommodate the "keep rerolling until you get a 3" rule. If you want me to go back and piece together the rerolls for my initial set of dice, I gladly will, this was just a case of idle hands. :)

Roll 1: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 6) = 17
Roll 1a: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 15

Roll 2: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 2) = 11
Roll 2a: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) = 13
Roll 2b: 1d6 ⇒ 6 = 18

Roll 3: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 4) = 12
Roll 3a: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 13

Roll 4: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 2) = 9
Roll 4a: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9
Roll 4b: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 12

Roll 5: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 6) = 17
Roll 5a: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 16

Roll 6: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 1) = 9
Roll 6: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) = 10 = 12

Specifics of my druid's background have been hard to nail down but the general idea is that he is a human dock worker in the Azure District that handles the animal transactions. He would be called if the animals got rowdy or uncooperative and he'd be able to calm them down and get them where they needed to be. He was content in his work until he heard the call of Osprem to leave the docks behind and head out to adventure. This enhanced his abilities with animals and gave many other gifts as well.

I have his crunch done but it's mostly standard strength based druid except for his Influence (social) trait to get diplomacy as a class skill to try to model his initial way with animals.

I also didn't reroll *every* 1 or 2 so I'll do that below.

rolls:

set 3 reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 3
set 4 reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 2
set 5 reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 3
set 6 reroll: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8
------
set 4 reroll again: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Set 3 didn't change.
Set 4 becomes 13 vs 12
Set 5 no change
Set 6 13 vs 10

Idle Hands, Part 2. :)

This set or rolls would be the ones to get my first set of rolls from Tuesday morning (found here) compliant with "keep rerolling 1 and 2", as I didn't do them that way the first time, just a single reroll.

Roll 1 left off at 1, 3, 4, 6.
Reroll 1a: 1d6 ⇒ 6 = 16

Roll 2 was 2, 4, 5, 6
Reroll 2a: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 16

Roll 3 was 2, 3, 3, 6
Reroll 3a: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 14

Roll 4 everything was kosher at a 14.

Ditto Roll 5 at 13.

Roll 6 was 1, 4, 4, 6.
Reroll 6a: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 15.

That brings me in at 16, 16, 15, 14, 14, 13. That's pretty solid, my UnBarb will come in off that score with GM's say-so.

More later.

EDIT: DM, I meant to ask. I'm in the market for a 1h weapon. Any chance we can back-translate the orc necksplitter by just filing the serial numbers off the dwarven waraxe?

Okay, I've got Mekhai here, my UnBarb.

Starting gold: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5) = 8

Yikes, 80gp stings, but I'll see what I can do with it.

Hey folks,

If any of you made a new profile for submission, are you having trouble setting an image? Every time I try and select an image for Mokhai (I changed the spelling), the website throws an error.

EDIT: changing his name also means the previous link doesn't work, proper link is now here.

It's been an error on the forums for a couple of weeks now. You can't change profile pictures if you already have one, either.

Good to know, thanks.

Yep, those selected who made a new alias will play a party of doppelgangers xD

Settled on a human bard.

Starting Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) = 15

Why do I sail? Why does a fish swim? Why does a bird fly? It is what I was born for, and I have known no other life, since I first awoke decades ago. Adventuring specifically is the best kind of sailing. There's always some wizard in need of a few strong hands to man his sails and guard his person, and you know the job won't be boring.

Jira is an adventurer because there are some things that think they are better, faster, and stronger than Jira, and jira has to go find them and eat them because otherwise, how will they ever learn?

So I've been thinking about my character, and there are some problems with playing a colossal sized creature and dungeon delving.

I think I'm going to look at one of the other in the company of books to make my character from. I should have it up tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

Isn't the playable dragon Size: Smol?

As for why Richter (sheet here) became an adventurer...well, he was blacklisted as a merchant sailor, wrongfully accused of being a pirate, and spent years in prison for it. He's not really keen to just rejoin society and forgive all that.

So if he's damned as a pirate, why not be one? Free as a bird and answering to no sovereign nation.

Sebastian, for all your fans, why did you become an adventurer?

Sebastian: Well, I'm quite new to it, not even started you could say, but the thing is my boat was blown away and I was like "dafuq?", and then there was my mum who needs money. And those guys, I sometimes do things for them but I don't really like them. So there I was, thinking "hey man, do your own s$!*", and thought I don't know no s!&* other than sailing and throwing things at people, so that's what Imma do, sail and throw things. And get gold for it, cause mum's got a hip to take care of. So guys, you can send your donations to my Patreon down below, and hit this with a thumbs up. Suscribe and comment!

Basically this, jokes aside.

they're small to start with, but they gain a size increase at 4th and every 4.

"I will answer for myself; Lila can speak her own piece." (aside voice) "I have learned better than to try and keep her from speaking; is like holding back the tide."

"When Lila and I arrived in Sasserine, we tried to keep a low profile, stick to legit work. She stuck to performing in taverns, I signed on to crew a fishing vessel. Both of us ended up bored out of our minds. We finally talked about it, and Lila suggested we try our luck in the Arena. I was reluctant, but she was persistent."

"We ended up doing better than I could have hoped. We've won more than we lost, but haven't really seen decent money yet. I'm hoping that changes soon..."

I've put more detail into Mokhai's backstory in his profile, detailing his meeting Lila (the bard Profession Smith 6 Ranks will be submitting), and getting to the point where the two of them arrived in Sasserine.

One plot point I haven't yet figured out how to incorporate is that I want Mokhai to get involved with the Church of the Whirling Fury, but it's tricky given that he's new in town, and the Church seems a little on the secretive side. One option I was thinking about is that an agent of the Church caught Mo and Lila in the Arena, and he's now on their (figurative) radar.

I'm going to withdraw from this one. I'm struggling to come up with a character I want to play, and I don't think I'll get it figured out by the time recruitment ends.

I'll add the fluff in a bit. Sorion will be a member of the Order of the Sun and Moon, which will have tie-ins to Pholtus without being a part of the clerical hierarchy. I figured Pholtus fits the theme for lightsabers, law and order.

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

Ah, you're using the class as well, and not just the race. You can take Lithe Movement and it's not too big a deal?

Though I'd be less worried about dungeon delving and more worried about being too big for the boat as we travel from place to place.

He can fly, right? When he needs to sleep, we’ll tie off a rope and tow him. :)

I'm working on a wizard. I dont know if I'll have the funds for it yet but are you allowing pre-game crafting? Either scrolls or maybe alchemy items.

Ya, I was going to use the class. It's really strong.

I'm currently working on a angelic paragon who was sent by his god to study how mortal heroes come into existance and grow.

I should have it up tonight.

Finally got my thoughts together. The background for my druid is below and the character sheet is at this link.

Marceau Background:

As a child, Marceau never knew his father. His mother was a tavern girl who succumbed to the charms of a visiting sailor. Unbeknown to either of them, he was a government sanctioned pirate. He was only barely tolerated as he was cruel to his victims, maiming people he was only supposed to rough up.

Marceau got along well enough growing up, doing odd jobs as he could as a child. In his teens he got on as dock worker in the Azure District. He found he had a knack for working with the animals that pass though. He eventually got to be the main person called on if the animals got rowdy or uncooperative and he'd be able to calm them down and get them where they needed to be. He was content in his work until he heard the call of Osprem. In a dream he saw a man that he felt an odd connection to became enough trouble to concern the goddess. When he woke, the name Lolonois stuck in his mind and a dolphin in a circle appeared on his forearm. This prompted him to leave the docks behind and head out to adventure to find this man his new goddess pointed him towards. The connection with Osprem enhanced his connection to animals and granted him knowledge he would not know any other way and abilities he could not explain.

The short of his reason to adventure is he was called to action by Osprem (goddess of the seas) with the eventual goal to eliminate the father he never knew as he became a scourge of the seas.

Man, when I read "Brother-Librarian" I can't help thinking of Space Marines xD

The alias was originally from a space marine game. I'm just recycling it.

Just finishing up some details on my goblin wizard.
You mentioned two traits relating to sea, pirates, urban, etc

Would it be appropriate to take the Skull and Shackles trait Ancient Explorer ( re-flavoured of course to reflect the change in setting ) ?

Thanks

Please tell me that is Daxur!

Here's my submission. She's linked to another player's submission--Mokhai (though we're still hashing out a coherent backstory for how they met and eventually arrived in Sasserine). It's mostly done except for some additional equipment and shoring up the backstory.

I took a campaign feat from the Ironfang Invasion AP (Frontier Healer) as it fit her backstory; it can be changed if needed.

Also, a quick question: Will you be using some sort of affiliations system for this Savage Tide campaign? Lila wants to get in with the Church of the Whirling Fury for story reasons mainly: to explain her dip next level into Swashbuckler (Rondelero) so she can become a falcata-swinging whirling terror! Mokhai's interest in that organization may be deeper, so I'm asking mainly for him.

Looking forward to the selection process. Good luck to all!

Depending on the build he can breath underwater as well, and you can always choose the shapeshift power and go small...

Ok finally got my guy done!

@mittean....yup :) Couldn't resist!

"I see that several of my adventuring companions have entered consideration. That is most curious."

I decided to keep things simple. I still need finish up equipment. I've seen a few people roll for gold. If we don't, are we taking average for class?

Here is Zynazyr

Background and reason for adventuring is in the "Other Notes" section near the bottom.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Engineer #3 and Daxur:
You two have shown up in my home games, just so you know. :) You'll both likely show up in my Rise of the Runelords Disney princess edition that we're currently playing, as travelling companions. You've essentially become my go-to R2-D2 and C-3PO characters, lol.

I'm submitting Raekhon Wyk, a tiefling Brawler (mutagenic mauler) that will take classes in Bloodrager (Primalist/ Blood conduit). He is a dockworker currently. I haven't ever played him, so I have not worked up much of a backstory yet.

Stormcrow:
Are you looking for or needing full builds for the submissions? Or fully fleshed-out backstories? I'll also submit Ceilidh. She is a sorcer/wizard/ ultimate mage. She and Daxur and Engineer #3 have travelled together before (In Cauldron), but only at 1st level, so this might be perfect for them. They knew her as Korihor, but I changed her name since then. Might be fun to have three that are familiar with each other together. As an extra bonus. :)

Ceilidh:

Ceilidh'shoney eyes are soft and warm and stark against her bronze skin. Her dark brown dreadlocks grace her shoulders. She has a noble posture, almost challenging. A tattoo of an upside-down tree runs down her neck, spreading across her shoulders. It's actually not one tattoo, but hundreds of tiny magical sigil tattoo's, forming the image of a tree.

She is very against inequality. She has been an outcast, and homeless, for good portions of her life, so she feels for the underdog, the marginalized. But she feels she's been "accused" of attacks against people and places, with her magic. She worries she's a bit of an unintended terrorist. So she has latched onto a few incidences she's read about that involved real terrorists...elves. Because of her frustration over her own situation, she tends to read the worst in elves and comes across as mildly racist.
She's brilliant, but a bit of an alcoholic. She can't sleep without a drink. She loves a good cigar but will complain about someone tracking in dirt, or not washing their face. Calculating and thoughtful in her planning, she often doesn't think about what she is going to say before she says it in conversation.

Ceilidh is a hard woman to love. She's brilliant and believes she is on a mission to civilize the world, one person at a time. She believes that society is doomed because of the way people treat each other, and the way the species treat each other. She believes that there is a problem with the rich crushing the poor, even though she doesn't believe that there is something inherently wrong with being rich.
She distrusts magic, feeling it is only abused, and dislikes religion, feeling it is a big con. The conundrum of her life lies in the fact that she seems to seep magic from every pore. She would prefer to just read a book, cook an extravagant meal, enjoy an expensive scotch and cigar, and live out her life in a warm place overlooking the sea.
Calculating and thoughtful in her planning, she often doesn't think about what she is going to say before she says it in conversation. She believes in the best of mankind, but also believes that most people are idiots; sheep, with no willpower, to make an informed choice for themselves, bent on treating each other poorly simply for a lack of understanding, or because they want a cookie.

She was born to the north of Metrol in Cyre, in the small village of Little Mingin, a dirty fishing village on the Arcadian Ocean. Her family sent her away to school in West Crown because "weird things always happened around her", the final straw is when she gave the mayor's daughter's a purple beard.

At fifteen her tattoo appeared, growing steadily down her back. She was afraid it was a disease or infection of some sort. Her fears, it seems to her, were confirmed. She is infected with magical energy. It took the form of a slowly growing upside-down tree, made of thousands of tiny arcane symbols, one by one appearing on her skin, bleeding down her back, slowly over the years. Every time something strange happened around her, the tattoo grew a little more.

At the age of 21, she awoke in an inn she was staying at in the city of ADD in ADD, while working as a freelance researcher for Venture-Captain Obo...or what remained of the inn. Her bed alone stood unharmed, on an untouched rise in a crater where the 'Three Barmaids' once stood. She believes she destroyed it with her magic. That was when her Mark changed from a tiny shoot to a tiny sapling on her back.

She wants nothing more than to control this magic, so it can't hurt anyone else. She can't let this thing inside her destroy everything around her.

Unbeknownst to her, her family's home was destroyed in the same fashion, at that same moment, back in Little Mingin.

Fleeing, she jumped a ship heading up the Uta river, up over the pass and down into the Sodden Lands. Over the next year, driven by fear of hurting anyone, she made her way to The Shackles, where the amount of alcohol they served seemed to match her thirst well. Fleeing a misunderstanding and a debt, she boarded a ship bound for Absalom.

She is a human, and rumour had it her grandmother was a tiefling, being from Cheliax, but she honestly considers herself human (no matter what those kids said). She cannot stand racism, and will quickly lose her cool if she sees it in practice.

She is not a hero and has done nothing she considers special.

Mokhai's interest in that organization may be deeper, so I'm asking mainly for him.

Looking forward to the selection process. Good luck to all!

Sorry on the slow responses all. Things were a bit disruptive this week with searching for jobs. Anyway

Yes I will be using the affiliation rules from Ultimate Intrigue or Campaign or Unchained (whichever book they're in) since Savage Tide was part of the inspiration for the system.

Submit what you like mittean. I'll take all the submissions people have ideas for up to today and consider who gets in this coming week.

I'm working on a wizard. I dont know if I'll have the funds for it yet but are you allowing pre-game crafting? Either scrolls or maybe alchemy items.

Pre game crafting is allowed.

Appearance
Sorion is fairly tall and well muscled, with shoulder-length brown hair and an unshaven chin (think Jack Burton). He wears a black leather trench coat with a wide collar, adorned with a long row of silver buttons that extend to the bottom, over a chain shirt.

Personality
Sorion is an everyman hero. Cocky, brazen, and heroic without being gallant, Sorion isn't afraid to do what's right, but that doesn't mean that he's going to enjoy doing it.

Background
Sorion is a Knight of the Sun and Moon, an Order that brings light to the dark places of the world whose members are strong in the One True Way, manifesting it as weapon of Blinding Light. However, Sorion's lack of fanaticism for the law and more practical demeanor translates to Sorion finding himself on missions to the far corners of the world. <Allowing for DM to insert specific Order reason for being in Sasserine, but being on assignment probably offers the most flexibility.>.

Background
Born in Hommlet to a family of merchants, Sorion spent most of his youth on the road before his father was lost at the Battle of Emridy Meadows. Too young to pick up the family trade, Sorion was forced to take whatever jobs he could find.

Working as a porter, the caravan was attacked by a group of bandits. Arrows announced themselves with a chain of thuds and a cacophony of screams. Wagoners fell to the ground and panic prodded the horses into chaos. As the wagons hurled themselves out of site, the remaining members on foot stood paralyzed, stunned by the abandonment and loss of hope. The slowing of time was eventually disrupted by self-preservation and Sorion and the others fled into the woods.

Sorion raced through the woods alongside another porter, pursued by a hooded and scarf-masked woodsman. Fire burned through his muscles and his throat cracked as the moisture was wicked away from the volumes of air. His peer overstepped and tumbled downward. Doom was imminent. Irregardless, Sorion's feet propelled him to intercept the deathblow. As the hand axe carved the air swinging downward, a blinding amber light flashed. Sorion's eyes closed, but the image remained burnt in. The weight of the bandit's body crashed into Sorion. Opening his eyes, Sorion found himself on the ground, hand grasping a blade of fiery light that exited the back of the bandits body as warm blood poured onto his arm...

IIRC, submissions were open through yesterday, but no indication of when a decision would be made. Safe to assume it'll be in the next day or so?
