Scarab Sages

Ember thinks those books look familiar...
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Know(planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Know(history): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Know(religion): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Scarab Sages

As the portal finally closes, Ember finishes the heroes' tale.
Perform(oratory)+Moment of Greatness: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 16 + 4 = 22
She follows it up by comparing the adventure to another she remembers that was somewhat like it, although not nearly as daring and exciting.
Perform(oratory): 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 16 + 2 = 25
Wow, could I have rolled much worse?

Once she notices the furor in the other room, she zooms in, taking a close look.
Know(planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

Scarab Sages

"When the elements align, balance returns. To repair this balance, gather together the heroes: one of fire, and one of air, and one of water, and one of chaos, and..."
Ember begins narrating the party's journey so far, adding flourishes and embellishments. As she tells your tale, you feel inspired. Pausing at a dramatic moment, she casts Moment of Greatness.
+4 to one skill check from inspire competence + moment of greatness
She thinks on the arcane nature of the rift, using her training as a loremaster.
Know(arcana): 20 + 2 = 22
+4 additional if I can add that to loremaster, which doesn't technically have a roll

Scarab Sages

Ember wonders if it's better when Octaris is awake, or not... But decides he is more help than not. She also thinks deeply on the matter and casts a quick spell to inspire herself.
Know(planes) w/ Gallant Inspiration: 1d20 + 11 + 2d4 ⇒ (12) + 11 + (1, 4) = 28

Scarab Sages

Ember is incredibly frustrated and responds with the fiercest, but also cutest, growl any of you have ever heard.

Scarab Sages

"Oh, for fire's sake, Octaris. You are the most problematic party member. Weirdly, I feel like I should hand you a rose, or say you're the weakest link..." Ember flicks her tail with annoyance, and gives a little huff. Pulling out her wand of cure light, she darts down to heal Octaris.
Heal for: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Well, at least you are conscious now... for now.

Scarab Sages

Ember casts Hideous Laughter (DC 18 - normally).
"You pedantic pompous protean pumpernickel, puff off!"
She then flies up to get a straight line of attack next round which doesn't hit her allies.

Scarab Sages

Ember flicks her wings with annoyance at Octaris' poor escape attempt. She casts Liberating Command on Octaris again, before flying over to the fire wysp and freeing it. Assuming I can spend a standard action to free it, and that I can get to it with a 60 foot fly...
"Now, burn free, as suits an elemental flame such as yourself! Want to helps us bring some heat to bear on this big ugly?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

Scarab Sages

Ember recites an inspiring speech about triumphing over the elements while moving closer to the center of the conflict.
Inspire Courage to the party +2 attack and damage (morale)
Know(hist): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
She also casts Liberating Command on Octaris (+10 to escape).

Scarab Sages

"Yasss, my prettiess, burnss it, we burnss it good..."
Ember makes a funny face, and then bobs encouragingly in the air.
"Burn it, Rhyol!"

Scarab Sages

"Umm, oops? This is interesting though..."
Know(planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
"It is a haunt, powered by the cyclone. Attack it with spells of chaos or law, evil or earth, fire or water. Krakos, use your faith in Ayrzul!"
Ember begins to recite a chant about fire, starting a Fiery Song bardic performance.
This will only affect her, but it might help. Assuming I've correctly deduced we have to damage the cyclone enough to stop the haunt, but not enough to tear the boundary open.

Scarab Sages

Getting bored, Ember flits into the other rooms, before ending up in B3. ...assuming she doesn't see anything interesting in the others between B6 and B3.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Know(arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Scarab Sages

Ember flits after Rhyol, looking into B6 as well.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
She casts Detect Magic on the bracers.
Know(arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Scarab Sages

"Hmm, this is interesting looking... Anyone around?"
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 to look and listen for signs of life or activity.
Know(planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Know(arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Scarab Sages

Ember moves to Sizz and attempts to sweet talk the wyrd using her best words. She even offers to leave some of the food as thanks for catching and returning it. Inspiring herself, and using Gallant Inspiration, she is rather persuasive.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 + 2 + 2d4 ⇒ (4) + 16 + 2 + (1, 4) = 27

Scarab Sages

Ember leaves the books on the craft and attempts to reorient her gravity towards Shhw.
Wis: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
She begins to orate the well-known ballad of The Westerly Winds, moving towards Shhw.
Bardic Performance (Fascinate - DC20 will save) when she is within 90ft of Shhw next round - assuming she failed at reorienting gravity.

Scarab Sages

Ember double moves to the basket, where she plans to leave the books (assuming no movement penalties for the difficulty of moving the books).

Scarab Sages

Ember continues back to the center point of the group...
(Either double move for 120ft or "falling" 150ft).

Scarab Sages

After seeing the others move very inefficiently and the stuff continuing to scatter, Ember decides to try some thrilling heroics. She gives the books a mighty shove towards Jamila and the rest of the party...
Strength?: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Wow, that's pathetic, but about what I'd expect from a diminutive pyrausta...

If it works, then she tries to set a fall direction to intercept with the flare.
Know(Physics): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Wisdom: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

If it doesn't work even with Mage Hand, then she'll keep moving the books towards the group. Is she close enough to try sweet talking any of the Wyrds?

Scarab Sages

"Oh dear, look out... wheeeee!"
Fly: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (5) + 24 = 29
Know(Planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Ember starts to fly back towards the group, picking up the books on her way using Mage Hand.

If the squares are 20ft each, then Ember has to double move to reach the books, then cast and keep moving on her next turn.

Scarab Sages

"Rhyol is in complete control of her internal fires. In fact, she is quite the boon to our party, and will be very helpful on our quest. Considering the danger we might well face, going into the disturbed air currents, she could be the difference between a heroic success and a disappointing failure after fleeing from dangers she could have helped us overcome! Do you really want to miss out on the chance to be THE captain who solved the mystery, and returned the currents to balance?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22

Scarab Sages

Ember flutters in a complicated loop in the air, using the air currents to show her skill at flying.
Fly: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (6) + 24 = 30
"And it's not that much different to make mechanical "wings" follow suit..."
Know(engineering): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
And then she pulls out her metamagic rod with a flourish, "...aided by magic."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

Ember glances at the other members of the party, and prepares to cast Moment of Greatness and then inspire competence to aid them.

Oh my, looks like I get to be the first post on the next page. I guess, a bard's gotta bard.

Scarab Sages

"I may be volumetrically challenged, but I know a fair bit about flying." She flicks her wings to prove the point. "Even better, I can inspire your crew to perform with greater competence and acumen than they normally would. I'm also pretty handy in a fight, if we were to face hostile parties. But enough of my words - what kind of proof would satisfy you?"

Ember listens closely to Nix's answer, to make sure she isn't trying to cheat the party somehow (asking for free labor, or looking to haggle the price).
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

Scarab Sages

"Greetings, Nix Trix Elixir Archaeopteryx. I am Ember of the Mount Fireburst swarm. My companions and I seek a captain who is daring and bold, with a ship to match her ambitions. We have been tasked with investigating the disappearance of ships in the disturbed air currents. Of course, our mission comes with a writ of recompense, which should more than match the spirit and desires of a worthy captain. And we are a skilled bunch, willing to pull our weight and ensure a smooth and successful journey."

Ember watches Nix closely throughout her opening spiel, trying to sense the captain's response to the companions, the task, and the offer of payment. Most important to Ember is any reaction to the mention of the disturbance.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32

Scarab Sages

"Hmm, but being most protective might also mean he will not risk getting close enough to the disturbance for us to figure out what is actually going on..." She gives a heavy sniff of disdain for a mystery unsolved, which causes a wisp of smoke to curl from her tiny nostrils. "I suppose we could solve this by just going and talking to them."

Scarab Sages

Motioning the group together, she shares her information. "... so, with those options, my vote is for Nix the gnome. Haughtiness often masks fear or apathy, and merchants care more for the safety of their purses than anything else. I think a daredevil might be just the captain we need!"

Scarab Sages

Ember flits around, settling briefly on barrels and crates to talk with people along the dock. Using her charm, she fishes for gossip about these captains.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31

Scarab Sages

Ember watches with interest and keen eyes.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Scarab Sages

"Indeed, let us be off. And please, pardon my manners, Jamila. The excitement of a new quest swept me up, and I forgot all about the best part... Meeting my new compatriots!"
With a flutter of wings and a flourishing swoop, Ember mimics a curtsey.
"It is a pleasure to meet you and your companion Targos. And you, Zephyr. I am Ember, of the Mount Fireburst swarm. Bearing witness to strange events and navigating the winds of adventure is my scene, and then spinning the tales is my scheme. And this..."
She spins in a circle to gesture at the party and Ashasar. "... bears all the signs of a grand story in the making."

Scarab Sages

Getting restless, Ember jumps off the chair and flies lazily around the room, fluttering her wings so that the light glints and shimmers off her scales.

"Hmm, has something like this happened before? It almost sounds familiar. As for fire, to everything there is a season. Including a time for fire. The best winds come from heated air. Any good captain should know that, even if we remind him." She grins, which is charming despite showing her many needle-like teeth.

Kno(Planes) from earlier: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Kno(History): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Scarab Sages

Ember flits along behind Ashasar, and then perches lightly on the back of a chair overlooking the table.

"A silver tongue, you say? I should think that falls under my skill set. How large an area has been affected? And how strong are the disturbances? Perhaps more importantly, who and what was on the ships that disappeared?

And most importantly, do you have an airship and such a brave captain at hand?"
