I will be starting a new game after the holidays after a quick trial of 5E; none of the other 4 players have ever touched Pathfinder before, or even 3.5E.
Our current party includes a Brawler, a Sacred Fist Warpriest, a Grenadier Alchemist and a Sandman Bard. As I can't make up my mind on what to play, I ask you, what would fit?
The party has a shady/criminal background, and the campaign (the beginning bit at least) is set in a city, so druid-ish and paladinlike characters are mostly out of bounds, and the GM has banned gunslingers, samurais and ninjas. I'm also interested in something more than the "hitting things with other things" playstyle.
So, what do you guys think? Bring the suggestions!
I also tend to find a lot of inspiration in the character that is using said item, much more than what the item itself actually is. For example, if that Evil Outsider Bane greatsword was wielded by a paladin whose goal was to defend the Material Plane, I would probably go with "Defender of the Realms" or something similar; on the other hand, if it was wielded by a ranger that was all about vengeance, then that name becomes completely irrelevant.
Alternatively, some properties lend themselves to phrases/suffixes rather than stacking all those prefixes. Try rearranging the properties until you find something that makes more sense/is easier to say (this is especially true for 2, maybe 3 properties; it is much harder when you get to 4 or 5)
First off, let us make clear that I only have access to Core, APG, UE, UC and UM unless I successfully convince my DM to allow other stuff (except the Agile weapon property, which has already been approved). We are using a 20 point buy system and average dice roll for HP (except max 1st-level HD).
I will be playing with an experienced DM, but the party is all new PF players, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one with previous 3.5 experience. With that in mind, I wanted to go with a build that's more about flavor and RP than numbers and mechanics, but I also really don't like gimping myself and so would like the idea to be reviewed by knowledgeable PF savants like I know can be found on these forums.
I also doubt this character will live much past 10th level, because the DM has mentioned in the past he dislikes high-level adventures (which I disagree with, but he's the boss).
The whole idea is to make a fighter that incorporates sneak attacks in the "precise attack" sense rather than "sneaky attack". I wanted something that plays really quite like a rogue, but can still stand there and fight/be useful if flanking is not an option. This is what I came up with:
Level 5 build:
Unnamed Character
Female Half-Elf Fighter 4/Rogue [Scout] 1
Ability Scores
STR 14
DEX 16 (18)
CON 14
Int 10
Wis 14
Cha 12
Ring of Protection +2 (8,000)
Cloak of Resistance +2 (4,000)
Belt of Incredible Dexterity +4 (16,000)
Amulet of Natural Armor +2 (8,000)
Sash of the War Champion (4,000)
Boots of Striding and Springing (5,500)
Wand of Cure Light Wounds [50] (750)
Arrows [60] (3)
2,117 gp
If the character does go higher level, I was planning on completing the Critical Focus chain, and then either dump a bunch of skill points into Intimidation and go Deadly Stroke, or getting Combat Reflexes and start tripping enemies (in which case I'd probably drop Cha to 9 and bump Int to 13 to qualify for Combat Expertise).
Basically, I'd love you guys to tell me first if I've made any obvious mistakes about the rules (like I said, I'm not very familiar with PF yet) and also if I've missed any nice feats/items/unicorns that would go well with the idea, or if I've made any choices that are really bad (I doubt I have, but you never know!)
Again, I'm not planning on min-maxing this, since I will be playing with new players who will almost certainly make a few bad choices along the way.
Hopefully you've sticked this long, but if you did, thanks a lot!
