Hey, I'm working on a ToB like system to improve on the original and try and get closer to balancing caster/combat classes and provide more options for characters. Would you mind if I borrowed some of your talents? Especially from the fighter and rogue classes?

Has anyone considered adding in psionics? I believe that the Pathfinder rules are up on the d20pfsrd site

Let me state up front and without hesitation that I overwhelmingly prefer a classless system. However, finding players requires one to make compromises. The gaming group I had the great good fortune to meet up with was OK with substantial houserules, but for the most part was unwilling to take the next step to a classless system. You need to play to the audience at hand.

Well, why don't people like classless systems? is it because they feel less powerful? they have too many choices? its too easy to overstreatch yourself and cover to many areas, while not being good at any of them? I think if you can figure out why the system doesnt appeal to your players you might be able to try and make it more viable as a system.

besides that I guess I'll be checking in now and again to see whats been updated (PS the fighter is a LOT of fun to play, which is a great change over the fighter of 3.5).

Classless PF PDF

haha that was fast. Thanks a lot

EDIT: I really like it! Makes me think though.... what would happen/ how would you make kirthfinder function this way? there seem to be a lot more choice in your homebrewed system, which just screams a classless system to me.... I imagine it would be a lot of work though seeing as making prerequisites/ costs for all of them would be a pain

Hey, I'm back

I saw a post where you mentioned a classless system? any chance that is on a computer somewhere? I'd love to check it out.

I've been trying to think of a way for that to work so I could implement it in a elderscrolls d20 game I'm working on.

oh and for the person who was asking about summoner/alchemist why not make them schools of the wizard class?

I think the summoner would work well this way (they might have to loose access to a certain school of spells to balance it out), but the alchemist might have a little trouble.

Regarding the Magus, I made a 20-level arcane warrior class, then scrapped it in favor of the Eldritch Knight fighter talent and a number of the Arcane feats. That way, you can choose any mix of fighting vs. spellcasting, and also choose which abilities, specifically, that you want.

Alright, just saw that talent, and by looking over the arcane feat selection, I am impressed. It does what the magus tried to do, and better yet it doesn't overshadow the battle sorcerer.

I guess the concern for power level makes sense. If 3.5 epic was as crazy as it was then Pathfinder would be much worse... and this... this would make gods. literally.

anyways nice work. I'm going to try and run a campaign using these rules when I get back. Probably going to have to bump up the CR of the encounters... do you think counting the party as a level or two higher would compensate?

Hey, just gonna add that I love everything you've done to the game. Simplifies everything, but allows for so many more options at the same time. Its how it should be, a shame it took so long for it to be implemented properly.

I haven't had a chance to read through everything, but it all seems to be in order. However I did notice one thing that irks me a little. Having base classes with this power effectively eliminates the desire for prestige classes. While not a bad thing, it still is a little weird (especially coming from 3.5). But thats a minor nitpick. I would be perfectly happy with my monk/fighter multiclass.

If I could make a request? I know you guys are busy, but I think if you guys did a port of the magus it would be really cool. I know theres the battle sorcerer but thats more of a warmage than a duskblade.

Also, have you guys given any thought to making epic progressions for the classes?

well, anyways. Nice work. I'll be back later with more in depth feedback

EDIT: Idea- make it a prestige class similar to how you did the paladin. Youre style seems to be based on the ability to choose how you build the character, so you could perhaps give them options on how they cast (like a sorcerer, wizard, oracle), and then give them their arcana which would allow them to modify their fighting and casting. Through arcana you could also allow for the creation of hexblade like characters, and characters that have forged a bond with a weapon. Then give them channeling and maybe spell combat? might be a little strong seeing as how you've nerfed casters. Maybe only usable a number of times per day?

Hey, I really like the fix, especially how both Spell Strike and Spell Combat have their place. There were a couple of parts where you started typing something, then missed it, but I'll just point them out at the bottom. Here are some more ideas for magus arcana. I'm not sure if they are totally balanced, but check them out (feel free to change the names).

Hands Free: A magus who selects this ability has practiced casting a spell in Spell Combat without a free hand. Whenever the Magus uses his Spell Combat ability he is not able to hold a shield in his off hand, hold a two handed weapon, or dual weild weapons. This ability only functions in the context of this ability. A magus must still have a hand free to cast any other spell with somatic components. Must be at least 4th level before taking this Magus Arcana.

Touch Spell Improvisation: A Magus may convert a spell into a touch spell, but only for the purposes of delivering it through his spell strike ability. This ability costs 3 points from the arcane pool to use.

Nit-picks:
In spell combat you said "Casting a spell in this manner does not provoke" just add AoO.

other than that, it looks great.
