About Elara Korechilde

Name: Sergeant Elara of Kore
Race: Female Half-Elf 39
Alignment: Grumpy Lawful Good
Class: Aegis (Aberrant) 5
Sheet
Backstory: Elara is the daughter of Marla of Reville; her mother ran off with an Elfavian, sending her daughter back to irritate her family and because she didn't want the extra expense. Elara was strongly disliked by her family, being wingless, part elfavian, and a reminder of one of their more shameful scions. To get back at them, Elara volunteered for the Clan Military. Treated roughly in boot camp by her Sergeant, Kore, her rage against him and her situation triggered her latent psionic powers, revealing a natural talent for shaping and enhancing her own physical form. This trick and her fury got her through boot camp, the first half-elf to do so. Flush with the accomplishment, she went out to kill Kore, but instead fell to talking with the man, discovering that he rather liked her and had been hard on her to get her through boot camp and teach her some of the skills necessary for the soldiering career he saw ahead of her. The two served together for over a decade, Kore once jokingly filing paperwork to have Elara's clan name listed as 'Kore', due to how much she disliked the Revilles. She never commented and kept the name. She's since served with distinction on her own in charge of her own unit, with quite a bit of leave saved up; it might be time for her to be sent on special assignment, or to take a break to spend some time with a distinctly non-military crowd. She remains close friends with Kore, sending letters to his retirement cottage; their relationship remains sentimental on his side, secretly similarly on hers though under a surly shell. She also occasionally visits Marla and her father, an event extremely awkward for all but one she feels obliged to attempt occasionally.

Very late into his service, Sergeant Kore was quietly charged, convicted and dishonorably discharged from the military. He was stripped of his pension and all acquired honors. Furious, Elara dug out the truth- he had been secretly selling military-grade firearms on the black market for the last four years. He weakly cited the excuse of the poor military pension, his newly acquired wealth- while cut short- required for him to live a half-decent lifestyle in his old age. Disappointed but still owing the old man a few favors, Elara pushed for the reinstatement of his past honors, if not his pension, given his commendable service to the military; she still pushes, and has stayed in contact with the man, despite the increasingly unsubtle disapproval of higher command. The higher-ups are eager to squash any rumors of connections between the black market arms trade and the military. Consequently, her last three months have been full of assignments designed to kill her either by boredom or pirate action. Maybe for the sake of getting her unit out of these assignments it's time to move on, maybe a new assignment is about to fall into her lap.

Personality: Initially very much an angsty loner with rage issues, Elara was eventually encouraged by her sergeant to instead satisfy her irritation by becoming someone her family would utterly despise; a military woman who takes care of her unit first, who refuses to take bribes and has a soft spot for words like 'duty' and 'honor', and who leaves firearms to others. These new traits are hidden under a significantly grumpy shell; you're not likely to get a kind word out of her when a curt one could suffice. Because of her cantankerous demeanor, her strange powers, and her race, she tends to be instinctively disliked or underestimated by strangers. Because of her absolute dedication to protect and aid those under her command, her pleasant laugh and raucous singing while drunk, and her undeniable skills on the field of battle, she tends to be adored by her unit and her friends.

BackgroundElara Korechilde was born to a family of no great renown in the outskirts of Sandpoint; her father milled flour and her mother ran the household and business. From an early age she was utterly fearless, exploring everywhere with little regard for danger. Her life changed when, during one of the goblins' irregular raids on the town, she faced down a small group of goblin fighters and smashing one over the head with a bag of her father's flour, knocking him unconscious and blinding the rest until they fled. Unfortunately when she and her mother returned to the mill, they found her father and brother dead by another goblin squad. To recognize her bravery, and partly in respect of her dead father, she and her mother were awarded a small house in Sandpoint. Another, hidden gift was given to her. A recently arrived traveler- in truth an elan, the first and youngest of three councilmen sent to start a council in Sandpoint- performed the ritual of ascension on her in the dead of night, remaking her into an Elan. When the other council members arrive they were horrified at his act- the ritual had never been performed on one so young- but, not willing to kill her and unable to reverse the effects, they simply forbade any Elan to have contact with her.
This event- her ascension- was coupled with the descent of Elara's mother into paranoia and phobia. Anxiety grew into a constant fear of another goblin attack, of running out of money leading to her starving, to ground-wolves eating her in the night. Not knowing why she felt so different and saw things so different, Elara began a lifelong obsession with fear. She watched, fascinated, as her mother recoiled from something she had never felt, and eventually began to experiment with how she could manipulate her mother with fear; casting shadows in the wall, telling her tales, making sounds in the night. The techniques she learnt with her mother she began to apply outside the house as she took her place in the community- scaring and manipulating admirers, enemies, those who could give her goods of advancement. At this point, Elara's psionic powers began to develop- she found herself with abilities beyond any of those around her (dread powers).

The next key moment in her life came when a paladin arrived in town to investigate the rumors and happenings caused by Elara- strange fights between people not usually violent, others being turned suddenly and mysteriously insane, disappearances. The paladin, overconfident and fearless, suspected some dark cult was at work. Irritated at his arrival in her town, Elara set to work manipulating the townspeople into turning on the paladin, raising angry murmurs whenever he went by as she became friends with the paladin. As the first stirrings of an angry mob started outside the paladin's house, Elara watched, fascinated, as her presence drove the paladin to fear, watching someone so unaccustomed to the emotion destroy himself entirely when it arose for the first time in so long (Dread ability to bypass immunity to fear). When she raised her hand and grew claws of shadow and sliced out his throat, he seemed almost grateful (Fear in the Flesh archetype ability).

That event firstly convinced Elara that she was special, and something bigger and more important than those around her. It also made her conclude that this place was too small and too limiting for one of her potential. Packing up her belongings- and not forgetting to kill her mother- Elara took a ship and headed to Geb, a land where undead are rife and accepted. Unsurprisingly, a young woman with the ability to inspire fear in the fearless did very well in a land where so many possessed a supernatural immunity to fear so quickly stripped away (undead fear/mind-effecting immunity). In Geb, Elara learnt of the Elan and her birthright, and practiced her arts and powers.

Her life for the next ten years are known to none but very few, and then only in fragments and flickers. Currently, Elara is on holiday from her normal political and power machinations. In a small town in Varisia she has begun her own cult centered around the worship of the god of fear, Kore (her own invention, naturally) and his prophet, Elara. She alternates between seeing the sights of Varisia, admiring architecture both political, social and physical and in whipping up the cult into a frenzy. Idly enjoying all the commotion caused by her presence, she is debating to herself whether to order all the cultists to kill themselves or whether to have them massacre their fellow townspeople and THEN kill themselves.

In any case, when the call to save the entire world went out, Elara answered; this would is far too interesting for her.
PersonalityElara is utterly fearless and fascinated by the concept and effects of fear. She greatly enjoys all forms of manipulation, particularly using fear. She appreciates her base pleasures- fine foods, beautiful clothing, skilled fornication- and does not cope terribly easily with harsh conditions. She is very vain and prideful, both because of her being an elan, something very close to being a superior species in her eyes, and because of all her time spent playing puppet-master. She has a keen interest in people and in her surroundings and enjoys conversing with everyone, particularly discovering their secrets. Should she discover an enemy she prefers to act subtly.
Description:Elara's true form is marked by the black crystal mask she wears upon her head with slits for her eyes and mouth. Beneath it, she has a pale white face, haughty eyebrows and dark black hair. The subtle signs of the Elan are present on her. Her eyes seem to sparkle, her hair to undulate before an unfelt wind, her movements to subliminally draw the eye. She wears the fine grey and black robes of a noblewoman, trimmed with silver. Viewing her from indecent angles reveals silver chainmail clad beneath her clothes. Strapped to her back is a small grey backpack. Her arms have long black streaks running along each side. When she concentrates the streaks expand to cover her arms like bands and then extend, allowing her hands to shoot forwards and deliver her magics.

When concealed by her disguising magics, Elara's crystal mask is gone, her face revealed, though with the signs of the Elan concealed somewhat; her eyes are duller, her hair plainer. She still wears the outfit of a noblewoman, and the silver chainmail beneath it. The streaks along her arms persist, though their edges seem more ragged, like inkstains.

Elara's ring lets her change form to whatever she wishes; thus she can hide her stone mask and magic psychoactive skin covering her.

Character Sheet
Backstory: Born into a family of minor nobles, Elara early on displayed immense pride and arrogance. Her family however placed all power in its male heirs and members, and for attempting to claim rights and privileges Elara was frequently and harshly punished. Locked in the darkened cellar that was her place of punishment, Elara learnt to focus her mind and create armor of pure shadows. One day she challenged her father to a duel and slew him gruesomely, and took over the household. Within a week however, his friends had discovered her crime and had her arrested and charged with murder.
Personality:[/b] Elara firmly believes in the sith code. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. My mind shall free me. She is honourable, recognizing that a secure and reinforced social structure is the only way the strong can survive and prosper, lest they be dragged down by the weak.
Description: Elara is a plain-looking young woman with a thin, deceptively strong form and short-cut hair. Her face is unremarkable, except her eyes show a fierce intelligence. She speaks and moves with an imperiousness not often seen in one so young.

When garbed for battle, Elara wears an armour of living shadow which pulsates in time with an unheard heartbeat.
