Born into a minor noble family, Ekemonis Iadris caused quite a stir; the scandal of a child with minor but obvious signs of tainted origins brought shame to his mother, who killed herself when he was still learning to walk.
Lord Iadris couldn't bare to have Ekemonis in his presence and it was quickly decided that the cursed boy should be sent away, and a remote monastary was found that would raise the boy, after receiving a generous donation from the Iadris treasury.

Life for Ekemonis was not easy; the normal people, when he visited local villages, would sneak looks, point, and stare. Eventually Ekemonis began filing down his small horns, and took to wearing a hooded robe, to hide his nature.

Lord Iadris, in the meantime, did his best to forget his past; eventually he remarried, and had a new son, without Outsider taint, who was destined to inherit the family name and fortune.

Ekemonis struggled to understand his nature and embraced the ways of the monks in improving himself, but never forgave his family for, as he saw it, abandoning him. As he grew older and finished learning what he could at the monastery, his resentment of his half-brother who was due to inherit "his" fortune seethed, and Ekemonis decided to take take action; He made his way back to his family estate, keeping his identity a secret. Ekemonis' jealousy overcame him, and he hatched a not well thought out plan to kidnap his half-brother, and ransom him back to his father.

Ekemonis managed to get himself hired as a hunter to accompany a large hunting party, in honor of his brother's 16th birthday. Awaiting an opportune moment, he drew his brother away from the party, before tackling him, binding and gagging him, and starting to make his escape. Unfortunately for Ekemonis, the family was cautious enough to try to cover even such circumstances; one of his brother's bodyguards had followed and witnessed the entire kidnapping, without tipping off Ekemonis. Before he had carried his brother 200 yards, he found himself surrounded by a thoroughly armed hunting party, and had no choice but to surrender.
