Does the setting have a ready one to fall back on? And no, the anadi don’t count :)

I feel this very much. I really want insect folk; formians would be nice, and could handle the different types of formians with variants, which is also a great plan.

I like what Paizo did with Skeletons, so I'm having high hopes this could be a cool thing as well.

Regarding file sizes of PDFs
Uhhhh, I had this issue with my corebook pdf too, but now that I read it again. I think you need someone to make proper adaptions to your PDF export; especially in regards to compression of images. It sure looks like the PDF isn't optimized for file size. I do get that high quality images are great, but for convenience and accessibility it is generally a good idea to go with 150dpi images for smaller files. I can't really say where the extra size comes from, but possibly there's some error in the layout. I once had that issue with an indesign file that didn't use master pages, and hence the backgrounds were included in each page separately, blowing up the file size.

bumping this up. also curious if harmful spells on technomancer hacks has an effect on energy ray, it should have one, right?

yes, exactly this. :) I saw that Absalom station would have been a bit more accessible, but I can change the description for that.

ambiguous Michtim Operative (Hacker) 5

Felixus is currently taking out glasses out of the cleaner, and looks over to the door. The bar is outfitted for smaller creatures to be able to serve regular sized patrons.

"Hey there. What can I get you?"

You're totally free to drop into the game at any point, no need to ask for permission as long as you don't act in a overly aggressive manner. Try to keep it civil and respect the sovereignty of other players. It's supposed to be a casual place to take your characters on short rests between adventures.

Hey!

This is the OOC Discussion thread for "the Bar". First post here will be reposting the Race description of the Michtim race.

I'm an Austrian game designer, and I published my own game about hamsterpunk heroes in 2012.

Starfinder already has the Ysoki, and the Michtims are similar in appearance, hence a lot of confusion ensues. However, instead of appearing rat-like and having incisors, Michtims share bodily similarities with all sorts of woodland beings and furry creatures. They're very adorable, and usually not taken seriously.

If you want to read more about the race and their attitudes, you can pick up my game for free on DriveThruRPG, I'm not going to link that here. But here's the writeup in case you want to play a Michtim in your Starfinder games. Their magic (token spell and dancing lights) always has a sort of nature theme to it. In 5e they have the Druidcraft cantrip, so you might be able to better relate to how they function in Starfinder.

The Crystal Flask is an odd type of business. On one hand, it is a regular bar, but on the other hand, it also is a sort of weird apothecary, alchemist's laboratory in the back. The owner, as well as the staff, are small hamster-like beings that on the outside, often are mistaken for Ysoki. The Flask is situated in a space station that sees a lot of traffic by wandering folk, especially traders.

The boss is Felixus Honigpfote, a Michtim Mystic that's an expert in chemistry and mysticism. The bar is protected by a gang of Ysoki and weird mutant rats that make sure security is kept. The bar offers several tables and alcoves that offer privacy, and in the back end, shelves with wares (mostly weird potions and substances, drugs and medicine) can be found.

Felixus is a rather round Michtim. He wears a grey cloak with a leaf-like brooch. On a belt he is carrying several colorful flasks. He's currently working behind the bar, administering chemicals to different types of bottles to brew some weird concoction.

Several patrons are here, laughing loudly and eating odd dishes that were prepared in the kitchen. Michtims are renowned for their cooking, especially in regards to sweets and snacks.

The door slides open, as someone approaches.

Sparked by this thread, I created my interpretation of a monk as Solarian, which generally seems to work quite well. You can have the weapon look like whatever you like, so I went for claws. Combined with the Yin-Yang vibe of the class, it actually is quite a good fit in my opinion.

Funny! The Arcanium Sage really looks like a Michtim; but I presume it's an Ysoki, isn't it?

thanks!

Sounds good, thanks for pointing that out. I'd argue that organic materials like wooden boxes could be possibly dissolved especially easily with acid for example. But your posts both give good pointers, thanks.

Hey

SF Game Mastering section "Breaking Objects" mentions that some types of energy might ignore Hardness or even double the damage inflicted. I used this in older D20 games as well, but for which substances, which energy types apply in your opinion?

I picked Energy Ray for this reason, and I'm basically also using it in RP to possibly weld some metal or whatever.

Hey

I wonder, does this forum not offer a PbP area? Are there any good ones out there? I was planning to maybe offer a bar area for socializing, similar to what I run on the 5e boards (I run a Tavern there).

Any interest? Any clue where to do this?

Thanks

My level 5 Hacker Operative has a +21 Computers check for his Trick Attack (the DC is 20 + CR), which is pretty amazing for damage output. I built an Envoy before, and within their niche, they are very cool and useful. I don't feel like I really get the mindset of "lone wolf characters", because it's mostly an extension of players trying to win vs the others. I had a player in my group who always had a first objective: be safe vs other player characters; it's extremely limiting in my opinion; but to each his own, right?

If you really want to play a self-sufficient character, the Operative is pretty decent, in-combat and out-of-combat. Don't forget that Trick Attack works very different from what Sneak Attack did. Being flat-footed is a bonus to a successful TA, not a requirement for it.

Thank you :) It should be pretty okay, I got my friend over at Paizo to look over it, and he said it was "slightly underpowered" (that was before I added the Limited Beast Speech and -2 Intimidate tho, so that might have slightly affected balance).

Basically Limited Beast Speech is supposed to allow interaction with non-intelligent critters, so you can use your normal social interaction skills to calm/influence them. Ideal for Xenoseekers, for example.

The Michtims hail from a pristine planet called Elysia. They managed to protect it from ravaging "civilized races" so far, but it's looking grim. The Michtims are now out adventuring to seek for allies and educate other races on why it is important to conserve nature.

Michtim spaceships are made from crystalline and organic materials. They look like giant creatures, but are otherwise just as useful as the typical ships employed by humans and other races. Michtims usually rely on stealth instead of weaponry, but they also have spark torpedoes that create ripples of energy on impact and destabilize technology. They aim to disable opponents, not kill them.
