I was looking over the plant companions are ther further descriptions of what they look like and how they function outside the druid as companions? I building a druid and looking at my options. Also does the crawling vine wrap around the druid or a staff? If I had a wooden puppet could it wrap around the limbs n control it. I can't find further details. O and it says they can't wield weapons unless it states in description otherwise but found no descriptions.
It would be interesting to see how one could progress through the Character Background system used in the new Ultimate Campaign. As I read through various chapters I notice it had player examples describing their choices in describing how rules work. I would like to see how a person with this book would approach each aspect of building the background. This will help me see how others chain of thought progresses from each point from Early childhood up to the start of the character class. Also if you like use the random rules and just state how it gave you ideas for how the character was effected at each stage progressing to the final product.
I am working on a design for a character that is a Warforged Druid in Forgotten Realms. He uses woodworking to create items that he wields or wears that honors treants that he has done task for in the past or that have earn respect in his mind. He will be entering Landforged Prg Class from Xen'Drik book and then Master of Many forms. I use this as he starts off attune more to natures side of things plants and vermin. Then he moves into wanting a understanding of animals, humanoids, etc. His mentality is the Gentle giant that finds life should be cherish. He has a special mask that allows expression change much like Hexadecimal from Reboot. There are thin vines weaved into the top of the mask to the back to make the appearance of hair. Weapon of choice is a Great Club that is carved into a design of vines wrapping around towards a sun at the tip being grip by the vines. Mind you its just a carved design it would be masterwork. I m running into a creative block cause I m trying to find a good Companion for him. Its a 3.5 game and I don't think that a Animal would best suit him unless someone can explain how to work a simple animal into the mix. Any input or ideas would be much appreciated .
Didn't think of it that way. Usually a artist can do a light quick drawing that is very rough draft showing the pose and style they had in mind for the piece. Those shouldn't take very long as they lack dark lines and detail. That was what I was talking about. I didn't mean give me a finished product. Sorry for any confusion. Quick drawings should be use to be able to communicate back and forth with what details to be added and so forth.
I m seeking out someone that can draw some character concepts I have been working on. I m not sure if this is the right board but seems general enough for General Discussion. First character I need drawn is a Special Warforged Druid that wears mask much like HexaDecimal from ReBoot. He will have various wooden plates form to wrap around arms and thighs etc The artist will be offered commission for works that are good. If you are interested you can PM me on here and discuss a way have a one on one conversation for details.
I was thinking of taking a Hawk and giving it the flyby attack feat.
I m not sure how the Flyby attack feat works. Is it like Spring attack ?
I m doing a druid that is there to for utility vs damage. I need a Animal companion that serves the same purpose. I don't want to steal the spotlight from our damage doers. Any suggestions would be nice.
I like aspects of both games. One thing that would be nice would be a Forgotten Realms done to Pathfinders rule set. a lot of the fun worlds that made D&D so popular feel lost since they made the leap to the Horrid 4th and no love for the 3.75 pathfinder. It would be alot of work for one person to convert the realms over.
I am not familiar with all the options for a illusionist in pathfinder. I know getting my DC high will be important but not sure of the best route to take. In my 3.5 game his familiar is a living spell book and the illusionist is more of a magician with cards. He has a special ability exclusive to him that allows him to create cards of illusions. Usually its always something that he has witness cause if he does it from book art the illusion will have a lower dc and even lower one if its something crazy unbelievable . Aside from the Card making ability i was thinking of porting him over to pathfinder. So any suggestions as to traits and feats would be nice. If anyone wants to take a crack at the Card making ability go for it.
Anyhow looking forward to suggestions and ideas.
Imagine a group of players all level 10. They decide to want to all play something different to take a break from current characters. They at 10 would have a hometown and fund lower level players to go out and do the easy stuff that would be like cr 1 or 2 . You know lowbie stuff. Each player would then role up a new level one and be hired by the original party group to go out and take care of say those goblins. This way each player has a level 10 and a level 1. Now the dm can mix up some adventures for each branch of groups. One nite it be a high level adventure with the level 10s and next a low level with the level ones. Another idea is have the high levels start their own guild and everyone makes various types of level 1s making a good size pot to chose from. Then when something comes up for a low level the high levels chose out of the pot what character they want to hire and role play. This offeres choice and seems realistic to how a guild might function.
I just had a thought about once characters get to a certain level and establish funds the easy adventure stuff becomes boring. So what if the higher level characters hired lower level characters to go out adventuring? It would be interesting for those wanting a change in pace I guess. Also if the original group forms a guild for adventuring wouldn't this be a great way to just play characters of various levels in the guild all in the same world. You level 15 character wouldn't rush out on every goblin raid. This was just a thought. I know some people like to role play various people and a system to swap out a character would be nice.
Magic items take time to make and if u don't give them the time then it the class ability or feats are useless. I don't know if there is a alternate system using craft points or not to counter this. I just felt hey your doing other stuff also beside rushing out everywhere. Feels more realistics to have a some downtime so if u have the craft skill or feat you can use it. Bards can become local performers earning some fame. Just something to add to the game but didn't want other classes left out when the crafters did their thing.
I thought about setting a system of always having a bit of downtime inbetween adventures so those with crafting can effectively do it as such as the wizard and alchimist it is apart of the class. Now they are happy. What about those whom don't craft? What would be some interesting things they can do each day to be productive much like the crafters? I don't think it would be wise to do anything that results in death of a character.
So if anyone has any ideas on how to make this downtime fun and benefitial for all the classes let me know. I don't think it will be roleplayed. I am open to all ideas.
I had a thought of a transmuter that would specialize in thrown weapon combat. So once he reduced himself getting the bonus to dex and ac it would also help him throw the weapons he was holding and as long as he had enough strength he wouldn't get a damage negative. On the reverse if he went into melee the enlarge would add to his damage and to hit. Just experimenting with various character concepts.
A small creature that gets reduce.
The book states any reduced item that leaves the reduced creature's possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size. This means that thrown weapons deal there normal damage( projectiles deal damage based on the size of the weapon that fired them). It says that projectiles revert to regular size once it leaves the creature so does it do tiny or small? Why would it still do tiny if it goes back to regular size? Another question does these rules above apply to a reduced person whom had permanency casted on them?
InQuisitor (pardon spelling don't have it in front of me) Think also from the Blood of Fiends book the Tieflings would be a nice choice for the dubious campaign. You could make him as fiendish as you want and play him as hidden nature. I also thought of a crazed druid character.
If ya really want something evil try the Anti-Paladin or Assassin type.
The mad scientist Alchemist that could strive for reanimation like Frankenstein.
A new development on this is I thought about mixing it with the Animal bard that gets to pick a group of animals and laters the ability to speak at will. I don't know if this is a good idea or what. I figure the bard side would describe more of him venturing into urban and learning new things while still sticking with a nature type theme. The animal side would round out his balance of plants and animals.
I usually enjoy making out characters but its just been a hard process to do. In my spare time I will come up with a concept that sounds interesting so I wanna get it down on paper in case I decide to use it in game or in my campaign world. I m not getting in the mindset of the characters to really determine what choices they would have. I think my approach to the design is flawed somewhere. I m not getting enough of the persona down in the beginning or something. I guess all writers have blocks its just finding a good method to get through these blocks.
Everytime I set out to make a character or npc I get blocked in the middle of the process and just end up with a half filled character sheet. I have so many sitting around. Here is what happens
I then take the concept and form the stats and try to chose skills. I never make it to weapons or equipment cause I find myself not really knowing how the character is. I don't know if its the flow of the idea or if I keep bouncing all over the place with the concept. Some characters I can't even finish cause I can't settle on a race. I afraid I keep looking for the best option for class instead of roleplay or what makes sense. Pls I beg of u the community to help me learn how to burst through these walls so I can be a value to the game.
I took perform comedy cause of the halfling jugglesticks give a +2 to it when I use them. That's why I figured that juggling fell under that perform. I guess I will just use continual torch spell on the juggle sticks for added effect as its a perm duration. Trying to think of creative side to this animal speaker lol
So far the only reference I found to a juggling bard is in the ARG under halflings using the juggle sticks. It states it applies for Perform comedy (pg 66). Are there any other rules are ideas of what can be done with juggling? What's the limit of weight and items? I thought about juggling something then have it fly out at someone while still juggling the rest of the items. For added flair I was gonna cast light on juggled objects. Is it possible to juggle the drum sticks and play the drums kinda of a slow beat that gets faster with more items. I have seen some one uses balls to perform in life. Would like any input also to give ideas. Working on a animal speaker halfling bard with squirrel and makes big wooden acorns to juggle. Also might have profession nut saler.
I remember in D&D there was a quest in a magazine i believe for obtaining your familiar. I was just curious if the community has found anything like this to add a bit of roleplay to getting the familiar or does everyone just simply start with one. I know usually you will just start with one, but this is just a thread on what others have used as creative ways of obtaining a familiar.
I have played in games where we related level to seasons. Example
Season is used as a way of how much training u have been in. Aside from that I guess you would have to sit down and think of a Level to Rank system for at least your four basics Fighter types
Perhaps there are requirements that characters have to be in a adventure guild that covers one of the classes and bestows rank upon that character. Anyhow just putting in my 2 cents
I guessing it would help for a brief description of what the trolls and ogres are like in your campaign so we can get an idea of how they will act. Alot of people will be going by the basic evil ones and use that knowledge for their answers. They might want you to track down a relative that suppose to be visiting but never shows up. I seen many movies make note of people in retirement homes and such never getting visited by younger relatives. They my think the player in question is in fact one of their younger relatives and thus offer some interesting RP moments.. do you go along with it or upset the old timer. I also like the idea of sneaking in something that is not normally allowed to those on at the community.
Could there not be a Imp that was spawn from a result of pure good or chaotic. Perhaps we could call them something else but they would carry a vague appearance similar to that of the evil imp. I say there should be the
Something along those lines. If evil can make its why can't the others make their own. lol
I have notice alot that people are saying monsters should always act according to alignments in book. I find this untrue to the fact that there could always be circumstances that could change a beings alignment. There could always be one that decided to go different route. Goblins are a example given they could be played as good align characters as well as kobolds. So how come say a Imp must always take persucution for being a imp. could there not be a divine act of a in world god that could alter the imps perspective. The GM also has the right to go above the rules and alter anything that makes for a better story and experience. Sure that said Imp would be untrusted and be watched. He should have the right to earn the trust. Lets break stereotypes in favor of interesting plot lines and stories. What is everyone's thoughts.
About Kalina JakesBackground / Personality:
To Whom It Concerns,
This letter travels with the person of one Sergeant Kalina Jakes, fugitive from the law and the military forces of Talingarde, and now prisoner of His Majesty’s Knights of Alerion. Once you make the acquaintance of this harpy you will understand the danger she represents, so I will not bore you with the standard warnings – suffice to say, hold her under guard and in the keeping of at least two trusted men at all times. Sgt. Jakes has sown discord among His Majesty's forces, facilitated lewd and illicit behavior by His Royal officer corps, and has been accused of transgressions of Talingarde law both extreme and petty. Let me suggest, humbly, that this prisoner not find her way into the court system. Should her escort be waylaid by bandits en route, it would be a most unfortunate breach of provincial security, no doubt, but even in the boundaries of peaceful Talingarde banditry can never be entirely stamped out. I am also taken to understand that this Jakes woman suffers from a most delicate constitution as a result of her month on the run from the King’s justice. She could very well take ill in the dungeons prior to her trial. With that I have done my duty. Fair warning. P.S. My compliments to Sir Balin of Karfield, who was responsible for bringing the subject into the crown's custody following her desertion. V/R Major Hoben Hazenfratz
------------------------------------------- “As to the count of dueling unto death, how do you so plead?” “Not guilty.” “Not guilty? There were thirty men in the yard as witnesses!” “Well, it wasn’t much of a duel. The pig died in three cuts…” There was muted murmur and a chuckle or two amongst the assembled justicars. Kalina sat bound to a chair in their midst, wearing only a light shift, shackled hand and foot. With a toss of her head, she flicked her dark bangs out of her eyes. The chief justicar went on. “You are additionally accused of murder, attempted murder, high theft, malicious sedition, and desertion. What say you to these charges?” “It was self-defense. My hand slipped. The horse was mine own.” “And the malicious sedition?” “Well, it ain’t exactly malicious, is it, if it was said out of love for our glorious nation here?” “I quote, ‘You tell that inbred monkey Markadian that if he sends me out there again with another unit, I will march alone to the palace and bugger him with my sword.’” “Well, I think a change in leadership would be great for the people.” “Your final charge is desertion. You are accused of abandoning your unit on campaign, itself a capital crime.” “There weren’t much of a unit left. Didn’t figure the stack of corpses would object.” The justicars muttered among themselves. After a moment, the chief justicar looked up. “It is the judgment of this tribunal that you shall be held, without bond or bail, at Branderscar Prison, for the duration of your processing. It is the further judgment of this tribunal that subsequent prosecution by the Knights of Alerion for your crimes against that order is both a waste of resources and unnecessary. Due to the extent of your crimes, the overwhelming nature of the evidence against you, and your revealing flight from the King’s justice, it is the decision of this tribunal that, without possibility of reprieve or parole, you be in three days’ time hanged until death on the premises of Branderscar Prison. It is your right under the laws of this land to enter a final comment for the record.” “Bugger you all, I ain’t being hanged!” “May Mitra, bright and just, have mercy upon your soul…” ---------------------- Kalina Jakes is a career soldier, having served for three years as a member of various auxiliary units supporting the Order of the Knights of Alerion on campaign against goblin raids. Prior to that, she is alleged to have been involved in bandit activity in the outlying provinces. A trained two-weapon fighter, she is deadly with a longsword and shortsword, compensating for her lack of a man's strength with speed, surprise, and sheer aggressiveness. Thrust into a man's world, she has responded the only way she knows -- by being a right bastard and taking what she can for herself. No man or woman believes themselves to be doing evil. Any evil acts she has committed she can readily explain away as being absolutely necessary and otherwise justly deserved. She has used the rare advantages her gender possesses to take advantage of the desires of fellow soldiers and commanding officers for her own ends. She tolerates no condescension from them and as the record shows, will back up her threats with force and her skill at arms. She is reckless, driven, and often a danger to those around her. The kingdom of Talingarde in truth would be much safer should she be removed from its list of problems, by exile or other means. As a result of her recent troubles, she now nurses a deep grudge against the Knights of Alerion specifically, Talingarde's professional soldiery more generally, and the regime of King Markadian itself. During her recent trip in chains to prison, she has often dreamed of scaling the palace walls and tossing the head of Princess Bellinda to pavement far below... She was apprehended by a certain Sir Balin of Karfield during an extensive manhunt following her desertion and other crimes. Beyond her general disdain for all things Talingarde, seeking out and destroying this righteous fool is of particular import, should Kalina Jakes ever find herself free and clear of Talingarde authorities.
