The fetchling son of a Shae and one of his human worshippers in Edme, L'Ombre was brought up in relative wealth and comfort. His youth was spent in safey, spending time with the other harem slaves and not wanting for much. When his mother decided that her vacation on the Material Plane was over, however, her disdain for any race other than pureblood Shae resulted in her slaves and their few offspring being left to fend for themselves.

Over time, those that remained split up to find their own way, and L'Ombre's mother took him to Isarn, in the hopes that a mixed breed outsider would find life easier in a metropolis of that size. Although that was true for a while, when his mother passed L'Ombre discovered just how much racism she had been protecting him from. He could pass as almost human as he had spent his life on the Material Plane, but people often got the impression that there was something odd about him, which drove him underground to work and live with those that were not as judgemental.

Like many fetchlings, L'Ombre had been raised to follow Sivanah, and he prayed to her often for assistance in finding his way. Much as he expected, he recieved little back from his goddess other than the occasional push in one direction or another, until one day. He was traversing the catacombs when he saw a woman who he felt an unexplainable urge to speak with. Feeling that this must be a sign from Sivanah he approached her carefully and addressed her. "Madame, if I may intrude, I am looking for some assistance. These catacombs are often confusing; they are like veils upon veils".

The woman gave him a glance to show that she had heard him but then proceeded without any further interaction, continuing to plot with those she traveled with. L'Ombre continued on his way, wondering if the attempt had been a good idea. Several days later a different woman silently appeared near him, and took him aside. She introduced herself as La Tisserand, and explained that one of her agents had recommended that she seek him out. After some discussion, he realized he would work for this woman, the first follower of Sivanah that he had encountered in Isarn.
