Originally a kobold of the Rockskipper tribe from a distant kingdom, Draxwile never truly fit in with his tribe, and his clumsiness showed. He had no aptitude for mining, very poor sense of direction and no real ability to make traps. After one too many mistakes, he was cast out from his tribe and left to wander to the surface. On arrival, he was beset by bandits, and would've been finished had it not been for the bravery of a paladin of Sarenrae. Driving the bandits off, the paladin left, with Draxwile following cautiously behind him. His curiousity had been piqued; why would some softskin paladin risk their life to save him, someone cast out from his own kind?
Following the paladin back to his temple, Draxwile was discovered... and welcomed into the holy place. Even more confused, Draxwile was taught by the temple's priests that Sarenrae believes in redemption for all creatures, and that even someone like him was valuable and worth saving. This message struck a chord with Draxwile, who believed that, having been cast out from his own tribe, he had no worth. Yet, here, a paladin, someone not of his race, saved his life and told him he was worth something. This resonated strongly in Draxwile, who vowed to put his worth to good use in something.
Shortly after, the paladin who rescued Draxwile began to teach him the art of swordplay and combat, which seemed to suit him quite well (a much more elegant weapon that just clicked with the kobold, as opposed to the spears and polearms favored by his tribe). The paladin stayed and trained the kobold for a year, before telling Draxwile that he could learn no more from him and left to seek others in need. Inspired, Draxwile gathered his meager possessions and followed in the footsteps of his idol, traveling the land to find creatures like him; ones who simply needed someone to tell them that they too could accomplish great things, even when nobody else believed so.
