I can relate to your 'friend'.

3 things I don't like about PFO and turn me right off from the game. The PvP, the Player Looting, The staggered release. These things have stopped me from supporting the development of the game.

Now the 'bad feelings' I get from these things I don't like, combined with people at me to 'change my mind' or telling me how 'silly' I am for feeling the way I do, telling me to 'go read' more about it(when I have read everything I can) or how 'angry' it makes them when I express my opinions and feelings on the game, kinda puts a big downer on the whole pathfinder experience, the TT and MMO and the rest.

Also the way the MMO is being marketed at the moment it feels like it is side by side with the TT. With the normal TT pathfinder newsletters spouting stuff about the MMO, and the MMO talking about the TT adventure books, the two separate things displayed over the same website and forums.. it is hard not to keep them separated in your mind.
If you feel disappointment of one it can shadow the other.

When somebody is not happy about something, try and show them some support, it can be a lonely feeling not liking how something is when all/most-of your friends (and the gaming community) don't mind it and are constantly telling you how 'silly' you are for not seeing it their way..

Maybe get a TT game happening with your 'friend' (if one is not happening atm that is), something simple and not to complicated, back to the basics of Pathfinder TT, just to reassure them how much fun the TT game really is, don't even bring up the MMO at all at the TT-game..
Keep them totally separated in real life and the good feelings he/she gets from that may just over-power the negative they have for the MMO and change their mind a little.. maybe..

Anyway, if they are really your 'friend' showing them some support and understanding, rather than telling them they are silly and trying to change their mind, will go a lot further...

But I can relate to your 'friend' and have similar feelings, and I have seen many others have the same feelings and opinions, so it is not an isolated case. A lot of people are getting frustrated, not only about the MMO but also about they way they are being treated because of the way they feel about the MMO...

maybe if they had a 'separate loot table', that the killers can 'loot' you like a mob and get some 'stuff' but you don't lose any of 'your stuff' at all... then maybe I could put-up with the annoying PvP..

but the two together is such a no no.. and I believe if there is 'Less punishment' for losing a PvP fight, more PvE people would be more 'game/willing' to give Pathfinder Online a look..

I think that is the biggest 'Stay Away' for us PvE'ers with PvP.. is the punishment we get for begin the victim of PvP

OMG YES!!!!!!

If there was a separate Loot-table, that you get when you loot a 'player' and not take their own stuff, then sure, I could probably give Pathfinder Online anotehr shot.

That is the worst thing about PvP, is the punishment that non-PvP player gets for being the victim of a PvP assault.

its like the main reason I don't play other PvP games like Eve Online, Darkfall and such.. The loss of your in-game stuff to PvP. Its not fun at all and an instant 'quit'

So yeah, I don't like open PvP, and will not willing participate in it, but I might be willing to play around it except for the player-looting and being able to lose your in game rewards.
That there is the biggest turn-off of PvP (to a PvE'er like me).

Yeah, I'm sorry, Love Pathfinder, and was really looking forward to the MMO and playing in the pathfinder world, but, for me, no matter what 'safe guards' are in place to minimize PvP there is Still that PvP in there, and I don't like that.

You don't 'need' PvP for players to 'automatically create their own content', you can do that more so in a PvE environment, PvP can hinder that.

To me PvP is just a frustrating annoyance that hinders game play with others.

If you add along side a PvE server (with consensual PvP) I'll jump all over it and throw all the coin I can at ya..

I'm sorry, but I myself just can not support a game with 'non-consensual PvP' in it at all..

Good luck with it though. :)

this PvP thing has also soured the Table Top RPG for me too, it niggles in the back of my mind while playing it..

I know what you mean, the disappointment of no PvE servers along side the normal (PvP) ones has made the Table Top RPG less exciting for me, the knowing that the MMO is not going to support all player types is putting a few of us off the table top game..

Duno why, it shouldn't, but your right, it does 'niggle' at you (for some of us)...

Got to try and keep them separated in the mind..
I think after some time the Table Top will feel good again, I think it is just been wanting a Pathfinder MMO, talking about how great it would be, then the massive disappointment of no PvE only servers, that sadness has dribbled into the TT because it shares the same name..
Once your over the game and see it as a separate different thing, the TT will get its flair back for you.. hope it does for me too :)

I wish for a PvE server with only 'consensual PVP' in it..
The 'open PvP' is the only thing that is stopping me from supporting the game 100%
Had my finger over the support button on kickstarter and such a few times, but the PvP part stopped me from going through with it..

I don't know why they wont, or can't, support both types of servers.
I really really want to love this game, but the non-consensual PvP is just stopping me from doing that..

Liberty's Edge

I don't want to see open PvP..
The only thing stopping me slapping a big wad of money down on it atm is that I am unsure if the PvE and PvP will be separate, as in separate servers, areas or such.

Want to be able to PvE through the game with out ever having to go near or touch pvp at all..

I do not like pvp on Table top or on PC at all in my rpg games..
