I get the feeling from some other posts that some GMs feel that it is difficult to give the players as much background and mood as the GM gets from some of the wonderful content.
I find this to be true due to the disparity between my ability to GM and Paizo's ability to create an immersive setting.

I noticed this over the weekend, as I played in an AP, while on the alternate weekends, I am GMing another for essentially the same group of folks. I found myself being a player that would frustrate me as a GM, by just not actively pursuing lines of questioning, not seeking out more details on clues, etc. It seemed pretty clear to me what needed to be done, and I thought that our characters were on the right course, but it occurs to me that the GM had a lot more available to us, but we were not giving him any reason to share it with the party.

Of course, it is all a matter of balancing information flow, with give and take between players and the GM. As long as we are all having fun, and are getting satisfaction out of an adventure, it is all good. Coming up with interesting ways to have the players find out about the richness of info availible in an AP/Module is all a part of the art of developing as a GM.

I am pleased to hear that I can have the players read AP fiction to aid in the establishment of the proper atmosphere. Thanks!

The Fiction is, as far as I'm concerned, one of the most valuable parts of the Adventure Path line for adventures I plan to play in. I won't be allowed to read Carrion Crown for another year at least (still playing through Legacy of Fire at the moment), but the fiction is a part of the book I can read.
Agree.. I have entire APs that all I've read from is the fiction and the first scenario (legacy of fire - I'm looking at you). Not because I don't like it, but because I don't have time to read things that my group is years away from running. Also, the fiction allows for a lot of smaller details that are fun for wiki pages.

I get the feeling from some other posts that some GMs feel that it is difficult to give the players as much background and mood as the GM gets from some of the wonderful content.

Is the fiction section player safe with regard to AP spoilers?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

If you are holding a reach weapon and you try to use Armor Spikes for an AoO against an adjacent square, I would rule you stop threatening any squares at all with that reach weapon, as you are no longer wielding the weapon in two hands. I think I would allow you to begin threatening adjacent squares only if you stop threatening the reach squares, unless you have the "Pole Fighting" ability, or whatever it is called that lets you attack adjacent squares with a reach weapon(No 3PP feats allowed at my table). I see folks saying "But, it is a headbutt, a knee to the groin, bodycheck, etc.", but sure feels like reality argument velveeta to me, since the ability specifically addresses changing grip and the need to do so again before using the weapon normally. It does not specifically mention whether you are now not threatening the wider area, so I guess that RAW indicate that you still threaten the reach areas, but would have to attack with the minus, until you adjust your grip again for any AoOs?

It seems to me that there is a design/balance reason for not allowing a reach weapon to threaten adjacent squares that you are ignoring the spirit of if you are allowed to freely switch the range at which you threaten. Am I nuts?

I have been reading a ton of threads on this, as I just rolled up a Polearm Fighter and am trying to work through some of these issues myself. My brain my be full, and I know that I am getting a lot of info that is opinion, and that I am merely stating my own interpretation. If someone can be more definitive, I would appreciate any real citations.

I'm frantically trying to prepare for GMing Racing to Ruin in one long marathon pathfinder weekend next week and have been using Hero Lab to prepare the encounters. Unfortunately, I'm not yet familiar with entering new content into the system. Has anyone created the various new beasts and/or NPCs for RtR yet? I tried contacting dwtempest but haven't heard back from him.

Thanks for any help anyone has to offer!

Sent them to you. Hadn't checked mail in awhile, sorry.

Would you still be able to share that portfolio? I sent an e-mail to your address.

Thanks!

Sent your way!

I'd like a copy as well if anyone is willing. dovaj at att dot net

Thanks in advance for your work.

I was just curious. When you play Pathfinder do you actually call it Pathfinder or do you call it D&D?

So when gathering your friends for a game; do you say "can you make it on Sunday to play Pathfinder?" or do you say "can you make it on Sunday to play D&D?"

I'll start first. My group still calls it D&D.

I think we all say "Pathfinder" in my groups/groups?

I try to avoid the "D&D" term to avoid both the stigma of the "Devil Worshiping Geek" accusations from non-gamers, and the "4th Edition" stigma from gamers.

Some of the "don't say D&D" feeling may be left over from our early days when I/we felt that we had graduated from "D&D" to RuneQuest, DragonQuest, Aftermath, etc. Anything but "D&D" seemed to be the feeling for a while back then, for me, anyway. I had always felt that "D&D" indicated RPG-lite, but have come to realize that it is GMing and Players that make the actual system being played pretty much irrelevant to my enjoyment.

StanC called it exactly. You actually do have more than one Paizo account. Your subscriptions are associated with the email address that begins with "dovaj", and you've posted above using the email address that begins with "BWBShop". If you are receiving your subscription emails to this address, my only assumption is that you must have an auto-redirect setup, or your email program is checking more than one inbox and combining them.

To rectify this, I would like to merge the two accounts into one for you. This will straighten out your Order & Subscription history and avoid any further confusion. Before I can do this, however, please let me know which email address you would like your information associated with: the "dovaj" or the "BWBShop"?

thanks,
cos

PS - Good call, StanC! :)

Interesting. Imagine that, user error!

Merge under BWBShop please, as that seems to be where I am getting the active subscription mailing notices sent to.

Thank you and sorry for MY confusion.

My subscriptions are no longer listed.

My Downloads is missing a ton of items: Core Rulebook, all of the subscription items that I have recieved, and more?
Order #1383501, a subscription order, is not listed, nor are any previous shipments/orders.

Did something happen to the whole DB or just my account's data?

I am loggin in with the email ID that my order notice was mailed to. I do not think I have more than one Paizo account. I guess CS will let me know.
