Ring of spell knowledge cast from the bard list should work

With my group it was a TPK in a couple rounds. I decided to GM fiat one of the players had grabbed the sword during the fight and that caused the tower to collapse. Since we're a very tight knit group I allowed the players to decide which one of them lived and they unanimously allowed their captain to survive.

That's a good idea too paladin of baba-who. My group is already way past this point but I may steal it for a possible new group idea. :)

One could also argue that the crew isn't comfortable drinking said "magic water." Another idea could be that a ships crew would still want "real" water so they don't have to rely on the cleric to get it. What would happen if said cleric started using the water creation as a power play to become captain or some such? What if he died? It seems to me a valid reason to have the crew request that the ship keep stores of fresh water.

Thanks! But as the players decided on the idea as a group, I can't take full credit. :)

I ran into the same problem with my group. We're on book six and each player has had no less than four character deaths. They created a persona called the crowned captain and had a black crown specially made. It's like a shout out to the dread pirate Roberts from the princess bride. We also agreed that since there are many days at sea and pirates love stories that each new character would hear the tale of how they got their ship and how terrible Harrigan was. This way we could continue the story and not feel too much pressure with keeping certain meta gaming knowledge from the table.

It should be able to work so long as they don't find out about the eye. For simplicity you could have them give the cyclops 1 point of plunder alongside the crew when they sell plunder?

Anyone have a group take on the shrouded queen and actually win? I had a tpk there and had to DM fiat the tower falling. Their crew was able to pull the captain from the rubble but the others died.

I also gave Druvalia boots of haste so she could fire all four barrels of her pepperbox upgraded crossbow. I also changed the paralictor by giving her a shield and axe and the arrow shield feat. Her shield also had arrow attraction on it to throw a wrench at my groups zen archer and gunslinger/fighter. It was an awesome fight.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My group lost the sea battle by a landslide but took out druvalia and the paralictor to win the victory. Their ship was sunk afterwards with all hands lost but the PCs wizard teleported himself and the other officers back to the island of empty eyes before they met Besmara at the bottom of the ocean.

First it was Harlequin's kiss. Then they took a warship and dubbed it The Vendetta

Staves still can be recharged, allow for your caster level to be used and can have meta magic feats applied to the use of the spells therein. A wand with multiple spells wouldn't be game breaking IMO but RAW would be one spell per wand. In my home game I'd allow it though.

Also. Duct tape does exist in pathfinder. See sovereign glue. :P

Ah kk. Thanks for clearing that up for me. :)

Artanthos - wouldn't maximized (+3 levels) intensified (+1 level) shocking grasp take up a 5th level spell slot?

I think Druid would fit well for you. After a few levels Druid has a lot more utility options than a cleric and utility is huge in this campaign. Also put ranks in profession sailor.

I'd say since spider climb is a second level spell and grease is a first level spell spider climb would work normally.

I'd do Inquisitor for first and Paladin for second. :)

If you're just trying to scare them, they could of course see it coming with a survival check. That could give them enough time to get the job started, so they only have to do a few checks to avoid death instead of making them hold their breath for so long.

The way I see it is, detect evil:
Round 1. Anyone evil in the area would "ping" on your spell but you wouldn't know who or where exactly they are.
Round 2. would then reveal no additional information (unless there were targets above 5HD obviously)
Round 3. Same as round 2 unless the targets are above 5HD.

The difference is when a Paladin detects evil in a specific target in which he would gain all the information given from rounds 1-3 and as such could determine if individuals below 5HD are evil.

Now talking about detect=smite pallies. Just because a target is evil should not automatically trigger an aggressive attack. Paladin's should be smart enough to realize that evil is not black and white and individuals may be having a bad day.
For example Pally Perkins detects evil on an individual farmer. He is evil but Perkins should know that her detect evil is not foolproof and would then inquire further as to why he may be detecting as so, and asks him about it. Farmer says that goblins killed his sheep and he is going to get the town together to go kill the whole goblin camp so it doesn't happen again. After a sense motive check Perkins determines that he is telling the truth and then should advise him against taking revenge for revenge sake or some other holy wisdom whatnot.
