Dolora's family was fortunate in that although they were slaves in Cheliax, they were allowed to remain together as a family unit. Although slave life was hard, they were well taken care of and had little to complain about. Dolora's mother was subject to many humiliating and often painful tasks as a bed slave for the one of the Demibarons of Thrune and his houseguests but stoically bore it for the sake of her family. Dolora herself spend her childhood as a general servant, cleaning and serving refreshments.
As Dolora began to mature, her family realized that she would soon be expected to serve in the same capacity as her mother. Knowing what that entailed, her mother could not bear the thought and managed to contact the Bellflower Network and escaped. Although the family as a whole could not leave, Dolora and her younger brother were spirited out of the estate and entrusted to the Bellflowers to get them safely out of Cheliax and adopted by a free halfling family. Dolora would never see her mother, father, or older brother again, and was aware that they might be tortured and killed for helping her escape.
During their travels, they traveled closely to the Pillar of Palamia. Dolora was out by herself and found a man in a bear trap, who she took pity on and freed. He was a member of the cult that worshiped at the pillar, and immediately ran to get help. Cultists ambushed the group, slaughtering most of the adults and taking the survivors to be sacrificed at their altars, including Dolora's little brother. Dolora was knocked out during the fight and somehow managed to survive hidden under the mutilated body of one of the Bellflowers. After awakening and realizing that she was now alone, she began to wander the Whisperwood.
In the Whisperwood she met some friendly travelling Varisians, who took her into their caravan and began to teach her their ways. She would not speak of her past or the despair that she felt at the loss of her family and the murder of her brother, but instead always had a friendly smile and warm words for anyone that she met. She showed great aptitude for the Harrow Deck and its use in fortune-telling, and began to help them earn their living through her ability in augury. As her occult abilities grew and she began to contact more spirits it was discovered that the despair that she had been repressing was stronger than expected, and she began to lose control of it, randomly allowing it to manifest as a phantom, scaring away customers, damaging goods, and causing many issues for the caravan.
Realizing that they were unable to help her control her despair, the Varisians took Dolora to the Pathfinder Society in the hopes that they would be able to assist her in coming to terms with her past, and if not that at least she might be able to learn to control her phantom in order to be able to contribute to the Society and do some good. Although as an escaped slave she was courted by Liberty's Edge, she eventually joined the Dark Archive in hopes of learning more of her phantom affliction as well as in the hopes that Paracountess Zarta Draleen might allow her to eventually return to Cheliax as part of her revenge against House Thrune, also allowing Dolora to avenge her childhood and her family.
