The issue in question is an outgrowth of male pack mentality, and self expectation ("this is what I do to be a man, its what I should do"). Not that ALL men see themselves that way. First, this is not a hetero-male thing. I've been harassed and even chased by gay men, in Miami, back when I was in my late teens. Lesson learned: men in packs are capable of inordinate amounts of stupidity we would not normally be, solo. And it does not matter which way they lean, or if they lean. Second, this is not going to be solved here, in an RPG forum, in a relatively "enlightened" community. It's just not. You want to fix this issue? Teach your kids to respect other PEOPLE, toughen them up to withstand peer pressure, and engender the idea that standing up for others is the right thing to do. Racism is taught at home, not being an a****le can be too. Pick the latter.
I'm not gay, bi, or anything other than plain vanilla straight. I don’t normally care about the topic, because I don’t care about marriage as a thing. If I were divorced I would never marry again as my wife is the only person in the universe I would marry. However.. Performing a Full Honors funeral for a dead hero (no, I don’t care about your venomous anti-military opinion, so don’t bother) and seeing that his partner didn’t receive the flag or his benefits in lieu of his estranged, adulterous, morally vacuous ex-wife made me care. Either give it to everyone or make it a church only thing, represented by a legal union available to everyone of consenting age.
So if the guy had moved one seat down as requested would it trigger an AOO? Maybe I'm reading this wrong.. The new Theater villainy I've encountered is people who think they can "vape" in the theater because its not real smoke. Three idiots in the row in front of me were doing just that during Guardians of the Galaxy. Before I could say something a manager came in to warn them, but one guy in front proceeded to swear at me and flex his big old (short and wide) hillbilly muskles (tap out shirt) because he thought I had NARC'd him out. He wasn't high on believing....
Hated the playtest, was meh about 4th, and I sure as hell did not want a revision of 1st/2nd (played both as a kid, still have the scars). That being said, I love the new PHB and the system itself. I have a metric ton of Paizo material at home and the pdfs to match, but I'm burnt out and fed up with Pathfinder for a multitude of reasons. It'll be a nice, welcome change of pace for a while and I'm looking forward to what else comes down the pipeline.
While I only play male characters, I almost never base them on any personal visual aspect. If I did they'd all look like Mul's from Dark Sun, which would be hard to explain. Two of my favorite characters that I've played who are far left field of myself are a mongolian-ish Ranger/Rogue and Paladin Adrian Brody.

In that case, good point. I must have read it wrong.
Or you can do a point spread ala (15, 14, 12, 12, 11, 9) etc. We use a 20 point 1-for-1 buy, starting with a base score of 10. Slightly beefy in stats but it alows us to make the type of character we want. Assuming you're taling non-pfs games, which would mean you can do whatever you want. I've never understood why so many people think point-but is mandatory for Pathfinder.
I like the spell casting; slots, valuable cantrips, recovering spell slots, all of it. I hate vancian casting and the garbage that is the one fight workday because the "godlike" power of casters lasts less than a round of boxing. I may actually play a wizard for the first time. For me this is a band-aid for vancian casting, but its a good one with soothing antibiotics. I also like the lack of stat bloat, as I see it. The characters seem more like adventurers and less like the Avengers, which (mythic or not) my current Wrath party feels like. Time will tell if this is a false assumption on my part. So far I'm feeling good about it, but the PHB will be the final verdict for me. I'll definitely play it, but my groups gotten a lot of mileage out of Pathfinder and will mostly likely do so in the future. I hope this version does well. There's plenty of room for more than one successful "mainstream" rpg system these days, and competition spurs awesome creative growth that we (the consumer) will benefit from.

I was never sure whether or not he remembered it, but it was definitely a seperate personality ("the bloody nine") coming to the fore. Love that character. He went from Jayne the merc to the Kurgan on steroids in ten seconds flat.

Ok so no one got it. Let me rephrase: "He doesn't look anything like Connor Macleod!"

No way!! He doesn't even look scottish!
I'll be buying the PHB, just to see what they did with it, but I don’t expect to play it. I didn’t like what I saw in the playtest, and I'm not nostalgic about the 2nd edition rule set (and that’s version I grew up with). Terrible interior art, lackluster classes with little to no options (brown books didn't help), and very static combat. No thanks. Not that Pathfinder is 150% better, but it and 3.0/3.5 are significant improvements in my opinion.
"What a great way for people who are cowardly and spitefully insecure in RL to get their jollies off on a daily basis." When I explained PFO to my players that was their response. I don't think ALL the players that will pursue PVP aggressively will fall into this motif, but a large number will. It's going to be up to decent players to look out for each other and make the game more cooperative and less antagonistic. It's also up to individual players to reach out and look for folks with a similar mindset. I think it'll be tricky either way but it's not impossible. Going to be interesting to watch, that's for sure.

I agree, except for Warduke. Warduke was my favorite as a kid. Dont know why other than he looked really cool. Edit* while technically Fighter, I always saw him as an antti-paladin iconic.
Like it or not the Paladin is the type of class one should discuss with the DM prior to character creation. It helps to get a feel for how you both view the class and its stipulations. Every group is going to have a different view on adventuring and interparty relations. Run the damn Paladin the way your group wants to. Being LG doesn't mean preclude acting like a normal person with faults and doubt, nor does it mean you should be Robocop or your party's Blue Falcon. *Blue Falcon: military term for the guy who narcs on everyone, slang for Buddy Frakker, also the guy who won't count your 100th push up because you were .5 seconds over*

You totally threw me off because you're saying 'GW' and my brain is translating that into Guildwars. Damn ARENA.NET messing with my Patfhinder.. Stupid brain cant handle being at work for a mid shift anymore.
My benchmark is Lineage 2. If its a non-stop pvp murderfest designed for the closet psychopaths I ran against in that game, then its a complete waste of time. If its a pathfinder-esque, group centric with occasional pvp for those who dont mind then cool, I'm down for that. However I'm still not convinced its going to be anything but the former, and despite all the hand wringing and opinions thrown around on the forum, neither should any of you be. No ones played it, and there are no guarantees of anything. We wont know until a few weeks into launch.

Racism is always there, under the surface, regardless of who or "what" you are in contrast to those around you. In Miami some of my classmates in Rabbinical school were paranoid that the blacks and latinos were out to kill them, on the streets, some latino and black folks would give me the Nazi salute and throw rocks while walking my sister home from school. Neither side questioned their own fear/ignorance when confronted by me and my obvious dominican features. Idiots are always waiting in the wings to show you how stupid they really are.. And black/brown nerds are not a new thing. Our D&D club in high school (circa 94') was 50% black and/or hispanic.

Freehold DM wrote: What do battlefield airmen do? Would you lack base cops entirely? Walk us through what it would really be like as an air force op. Battlefield Airmen (Pararescuemen, Combat Controllers, TACP's, or Special Operations Weathermen) are the guys conducting patrols, directly engaging the enemy, performing reconnaissance on foot, attached to other branches SOF troops, and they're the only ones with the extensive skill set to do those things. Our cops guard the base, give traffic tickets, and protect the planes. A pilot would never be on the ground leading an "elite team" doing anything. As far as O'neill, who's rocking pilot wings in the movie, and Cyberwarfare wings in the tv show....yeah no.
