I don't know if this was brought up here, but to me one of the reasons I have been looking at 'alternative' weapons to all the others is both a feeling for something more unique plus a little bit of a challenge. I have done enough with Greatswords, Composite Longbows, Rapiers and all the other top-of-the-line weapons that I have been wanting to work with the other stuff that most just go pfft and toss in the back of the loot pile. It seems more and more that for these other weapons to be put on a similar level to the optimized ones is to work at it through class features like the Bolt Ace in regards to crossbows rather then to redesign the weapons it seems unless PF Unchained does something with them.
I want to like the Bolt Ace archetype too as this might work to get some of the feat tax out of the way, but this just looks like some glaring oversights with no new proficiencies for Repeaters and a Gunsmith feat that doesn't get traded out. As for the rest, Martial Master, Steel Hound, Empiricist from what I can see would be welcome additions. Was hoping Underground Chemist would have been one of them, but doesn't look like it. Another one I want mandatory is Inspired Blade, but I would like to expand it to a Dueling Sword as well as a Rapier.
I like what I see so far with Studied Combat. I do hope that the formulae list was expanded on some with a few unique spells for investigating. |
