Fluff:
To anyone passing Daviana on the street they would see someone of fine breeding, refined manners, and expensive tastes. They would never suspect the secrets contained under the enchanting beauty and tall lithe form. The longer someone would observe her, however, they would notice the almost too skinny frame, the too pale skin, and a careful smile that almost never reveals teeth. Most never seem to notice these small irregularities, people trust her, men pursue her, and she’s always honest and fair in her business dealings.

Despite all this Daviana is rarely seen in company of many people and almost always with her wolf companion. The large manor home just outside of Kavapesta, Amaans, Ustalav that she has lived in for over a decade has always been quiet. It had been abandoned since the last residents died silently in the sleep almost 30 year prior to yet another plague born of Lake Kavapesta. Daviana’s silent arrival was noticed and over the years might have caused more rumors if she was not frequently seen in town, especially during daylight.

As the daughter of a noblewoman, Daviana had a pretty easy childhood for a dhampir. Her mother was turned just before her birth and hid her vampirism for decades. Her mother had been a devout follower of Abadar, and just because she was turned into a blood drinking creature of the night, didn’t mean she could abandon her duties as a noblewoman to her community. The discipline and cautiousness she had honed for years in accumulating her wealth allowing her some moderate control over her vampirism.

Life with a vampire parent meant Daviana did not have many friends. She had a few acquaintances from other noble houses, and her tutors ensured she was fully learned in etiquette, but her social interactions on a regular basis were limited. Between the hours when her tutors left and before he mother awoke, Daviana would frequently find herself outside in the gardens. As was natural for vampires, her mother’s nature attracted the usual creatures of the night. Daviana had taken to talking to the animals she would occasionally find scattered around the property. First the bats, then the rats, until even the wolves would come and she would greet them and spend time talking to them until they wandered off. Overtime, the more she spoke with them, she found they were actually listening. Eventually, she even learned to listen back.

Until her her mother was killed - not by peasants or humans, as in the case of most of these stories, but servants of the vampire who had sired her. Her mother’s death effected Daviana deeply. When Daviana was at her most lonely, a lone wolf approached her when she was walking in the garden. With no one else to talk to about everything that had happened, she did as she had as a child, and spoke to the wolf. The wolf sat and listened to her all night. By morning Daviana had her plans and the wolf never left. After this, Daviana spent several years researching her family bloodline under the guise of financially backing adventurers into expeditions against known vampire holdings. This was ultimately unsuccessful, the vampire all signs seemed to lead to was previously killed by adventurers and any proof destroyed.

Despite this, Daviana has continued to spend much of her mother's former wealth funding adventurers to deal with various creature attacks that seem to plague Ustalav, especially anything violently messy and public. It is not that she has any true moral stance against undead, as more of a legal stance. This is a bit ironic as she herself constantly hears the call of the blood that resides in her heritage. In lands like Ustalav, however, toeing the line between human and monster is not only required for her own sanity, but in order to avoid the end of someone else's pointy stake. Those that take care to integrate into society or live in the shadows, avoiding detection, feeding only willing donors, and generally not cause problems receive none of her focus. It is those that flagrantly violate laws, leave messy murders, cause uprising and panic en masse that she funds for hunts. Just because one is a monster, doesn’t mean that have to be a “monster”.

Daviana has taken care since her mother’s death to keep her heritage as quiet as possible. Moving out of her ancestral home close to a city dedicated to Pharasma was done as a calculated move. Her philanthropic endeavors also serve to shroud her true nature, giving her reason for frequent city travel and deflect any Pharasmin inquiry. One of the few that had learned her secrets was Professor Lorrimor during her research into her mother’s sire. It is most likely her mother had been one of the vampire brides of Amaans’ notorious Viscount Galdyce in his search for a male heir before his demise. They had encountered each other from opposite sides of the inquiry. She while looking for her mother’s sire, Lorrimor while researching Galdyce’s wives and his second death.

Forming not only a researching relationship, Lorrimor and Daviana also became friends. He seemed to truly understand the not only the mechanical and magical aspects of Daviana’s nature, but also the personal conflicts that plagued her. She respected Professor Lorrimor greatly, he never looked at her as a monster or lab rat, but as a person. She is deeply saddened by his loss and has left her hidden comforts to brave exposure to pay her respects.
