Like an alchemist, an investigator prepares his spells by mixing ingredients and a tiny fraction of his own magical power into a number of extracts, and then effectively casts the spell by drinking the extract. However, only the investigator can gain their benefit. Inspiration (Ex) An investigator has the ability to augment skill checks and ability checks through his brilliant inspiration. The investigator has an inspiration pool equal to 1/2 his investigator level + his Intelligence modifier (minimum 1). An investigator's inspiration pool refreshes each day, typically after he gets a restful night's sleep. As a free action, he can expend one use of inspiration from his pool to add 1d6 to the result of that check, including any on which he takes 10 or 20. This choice is made after the check is rolled and before the results are revealed. An investigator can only use inspiration once per check or roll. The investigator can use inspiration on any Knowledge, Linguistics, or Spellcraft skill checks without expending a use of inspiration, provided he's trained in the skill. Inspiration can also be used on attack rolls and saving throws, at the cost of expending two uses of inspiration each time from the investigator's pool. In the case of saving throws, using inspiration is an immediate action rather than a free action. Trapfinding An investigator adds 1/2 his level to Perception skill checks made to locate traps and to Disable Device checks (minimum 1). An investigator can use Disable Device to disarm magical traps.

Background:
Part I: Karcau
The Prima Donna Hotel was located directly in front of the Cloisoi Theater by Blaispear Plaza, and had come highly recommended. The cream-colored marble of the front, polished to a sheen, reflected Karcau’s many lights gloriously, and the imposing double doors gave the hotel the impression of a castle. I had looked forward to spending my last night in Ustalav indulging in the luxuries, undoubtedly fit for a king, within. Unfortunately, I had timed my arrival poorly. Every room had already been rented out to nobles visiting Karcau for the same reason as myself: The last public performance of the opera singer Miss Elise – my mother. Originally, I had planned to be in Absalom by now, but when I learned that my mother was giving her final performance, I chose to stay for it. Of course, with my mother’s affliction, she would eventually start to draw attention as to why she didn’t seem age. She had only been human after all, and humans tend to not live forever. I guess she chose an early end to her career; and on a high note. By now she was known across Ustalav as “The Voice of a Millennia”, which I was certain pleased not only herself, but her vile patron as well. I climb down the sidewall of the hotel and make my way across the Blaispear Plaza, toward the Cloisoi Theater. “Lady of graves, tonight I am your willing tool. Guide me as you guide your dagger in the dark, and help me deliver unto you a suffering soul suspended in perpetual death. Your judgement has been postponed long enough.” My prayer is sincere, and I sense a slow trickle on cheeks. My mother’s prodigious performance is coming to a close, and, hopefully, so is her tainted unlife. Two small clay jars dangle heavily from my belt. The sound of my mother’s last note echoes across the plaza. For a moment that feels like an eternity, silence reigns supreme. The coy sound of applause. It starts a slow trickle, but like a crescendo, it reaches the deafening intensity of a waterfall. My hand reassuringly brushes my revolver as it finds the steel vial in the bandolier beneath my waistcoat – I was not without a plan B. Vampires might possess supreme senses, but even they cannot see the invisible. I down the tasteless liquid in the vial, and the sensation of soft smoke running through my veins rather than blood spreads from my heart to my digits. And then the doors open. Part II: Caliphas
Appearance and Personality:
At about 5'8", Daniel is rather short. He wears a long gray woolen coat over a simple white linen shirt, a beige waistcoat and cotton khakis supported by a dark-brown leather belt. The belt includes several small loops for tying pouches, a waterskin, a rapier scabbard and extends into a bandolier gun holster worn beneath the waistcoat. He has clear brown eyes and medium to long length golden/dark blonde hair gathered in a ponytail, which hangs like a mane around his clean shaven, angular face. On his cheek is a single straight scar from his Lepidstadt duels. Daniel is a liberal socialist who believes guns to be the weapons of the future. Therefore, he wishes to bring guns to the people, but not for free. After all, he has to make a living. His dream is that every household has access to a firearm for house defense.
Aphorisms
Follow a Hunch, but Bear the Consequences: If faced with a sudden problem, worshipers should be guided by intuition and emotions if reason doesn't provide an obvious answer. If this leads to something harmful, they are responsible for repairing the harm that is done. Learn from What Is Different: Desna's followers should accept others who espouse friendship, regardless of race or religion. They learn redemption and acceptance from Sarenrae, appreciation of beauty from Shelyn, bravery from Cayden Cailean, passion from Calistria, magic from Nethys, combat from Gorum, nature from Gozreh, and more. Ignoring the teachings of other religions is ignoring the chance to learn. Not This Year, Not Yet: This is a brief prayer, spoken in response to hearing a tragedy or bad rumor, asking that Pharasma delay when believers are sent to her realm, for they have much to do before that time. The devout speak it at each morning's prayers and when they pray before bed. Love Is the Greatest of All Things: Knowledge, language, and ambitions all pass in time, but love and kindness toward others persist, their repercussions felt down through the generations, in this world and the next. Even when love is barely more than a flickering candle, it can ignite the heart and soul into a raging flame that defies time, death, war, fate, and nature. There is nothing so bad that it's not good for something: A variant of "Every cloud has a silver lining".
