What if our first adventure was at the behest of the Kaer Maga Mercantile Benevolent Society- warehouses underground were being robbed, a few of their guards found with their throats gnawed out as if by some savage animal.

Dahlia, as a priestess of Abadar, was called in to interrogate Chip and Aegor (Aegor being a prime suspect in the mauling deaths, Chip being in the wrong place at the wrong time). She came to the conclusion that they had been falsely accused by the angry mob of merchants. She branched out to get assistance in clearing up the matter, tapping Halek for his connection to the Duskwardens and his experience in law enforcement back in Korvosa, Pip came along to provide muscle and trusty Silas signed up to get in good with the Merchants League. After investigating the cellars, we found that each cellar had access to the Undercity that was long since bricked up and a warren of wererats had been sneaking into the warehouses using their rat forms, shrinking the inventory magically and then selling the goods in the market themselves.

BRILLIANT! Brilliant, I say!

1) What brought you to Kaer Maga, and why do you stay here?

"You don't have much choice in the matter when you're born here, neh? Kaer Maga is my home, and one of the most vibrant cities in the world. I wouldn't trade it even for Absalom, the City at the Center of the World!"

2) Who is your foe/rival/enemy, and what is the nature of your animosity?

"That'd be Floridus Laber, a fellow acolyte of Abadar like me. He's got eyes on becoming the Archbanker for the city, and thanks to my efforts in the city he thinks I'm the most significant rival for the position even though I've never expressed interest in it. He won't waste an opportunity to shade me, but he's not the kind of man to go out and actually DO things the way I do, so we mercifully don't have to tolerate each others' presence very long."

3) What was your group's first adventure together?

I agree that a good starting adventure where we all met would be along the Halflight Path. Perhaps, wanting to do some civic duty, Dahlia volunteered her healing services to the Duskwardens and that's how she met Halek and anyone entering the city that way!

Sorry for the radio silence for the past two days. I was asked to switch to mid-shifts for two days because one of my co-workers got her wisdom teeth pulled, and I came down with an obnoxious cold at the same time, so I needed my rest in-between.

Human Cleric 1 | HP 23/23 | Armor:1 | XP:0 | Str:9(+0) Dex:8(-1) Con:15(+1) Int:13(+1) Wis:16(+2) Cha:12(+0)

Are we answering these questions in character or in general? Just wondering how I should phrase my answers, especially for the last one, which seems a little more collaborative.

Human Cleric 1 | HP 23/23 | Armor:1 | XP:0 | Str:9(+0) Dex:8(-1) Con:15(+1) Int:13(+1) Wis:16(+2) Cha:12(+0)

I like that! I'll add it to my sheet!

The question is what Dahlia believes thanks to that. My other bonds have something that Dahlia feels or wants to do because of them. For example, "Piper has insulted my deity; I do not trust them" or "Aegor is in constant danger, I will keep them safe." We know what Silas DID. What does Dahila THINK of him now because of that?

Human Cleric 1 | HP 23/23 | Armor:1 | XP:0 | Str:9(+0) Dex:8(-1) Con:15(+1) Int:13(+1) Wis:16(+2) Cha:12(+0)

Thanks for the reminder about the chisels, Chipluck!

Maybe the info involved the Ardocs' golem-making biz, and Silas talked them out of taking a finger joint from Dahlia. My bond with Silas could be something like:

I owe Silas a great debt for intervening when I got in over my head.

Obviously this needs some adjusting...

Silas Asgavan wrote:

I have all my bonds selected now and set up on my profile. I am super excited to get this strange assortment of strangers released upon Kaer Maga.

@Dahlia - I think the information was insight into the complicated web of debts, favors, and loans. Perhaps not all the crime bosses and gangs are as stable as they'd like you to think they are and the paper trail has revealed some of who is really in control. This is information that really, only the Church of Abadar would have. If it got out or someone used it, it could reflect badly on the church and put a target on Dahlia's back.

My original idea was him using his Charming & Open ability to get it but I can't make people spill secrets that way. Perhaps she got involved in a situation she shouldn't have been in and Silas stepped in to help her? Either with force or, more likely an option, diplomacy. After that, they shared a drink?

I'm not sure how naive Dahlia and if Silas was feigning friendship for access to juicy information or not. He is a bit of a bastard, one willing to do what he needs to survive. Yet he'd feel regret at harming anyone as collateral.

Any particular criminal organization you'd have in mind? I assume it'd have to be a smaller one, since bigger ones would have the resources to do a hit-job, and a reputation worth protecting with one.

@Dahlia: Likewise, I should try to have one from me to you. How about "I know deep down that I'm a coward for fleeing Korvosa, but Dahlia is the only person I can confide in"?

That's a good idea! I like it!

@ Silas: With that in mind, I should think of something for Silas too...I've filled up the pre-made bonds. Let's brainstorm! Dahlia trusted you with a secret. What might that secret have been? And why would Dahlia have trusted you with it?

Human Cleric 1 | HP 23/23 | Armor:1 | XP:0 | Str:9(+0) Dex:8(-1) Con:15(+1) Int:13(+1) Wis:16(+2) Cha:12(+0)

I am. As far as the story I want to tell myself, I'm looking forward to what I like to call the Star Wars Cantina aspect of Kaer Maga. I wanna interact with all the wierd and interesting people and creatures that call this city home, like the wormfolk (nagas), the Iridian Fold, the troll Augurs, the Tallow Boys, the Sweettalkers and of course we have a direct connection to the Duskwardens through Halek. I kind of designed Dahlia to be kind of "aggressively normal" compared to the wild and crazy people in Kaer Maga as a kind of constrast.

As far as Dahlia's own specific goals include "elevating the downtrodden" as much as can be done in a wretched hive of scum and villainy like Kaer Maga, and generally making the city a better place. She realizes her individual efforts can't get rid of Kaer Maga's slimy aspects like the open practice of slavery, or the tyranny of various criminal groups like the Ardoc family, but she feels like individual improvements that the group makes may inspire more of them in other people, snowballing to make Kaer Maga a slightly less crappy place.

Human Cleric 1 | HP 23/23 | Armor:1 | XP:0 | Str:9(+0) Dex:8(-1) Con:15(+1) Int:13(+1) Wis:16(+2) Cha:12(+0)

@ Aegor: Well, Dahlia's reason to start adventuring is that she feels she can do more good for Kaer Maga's people out there than just sitting in the Temple sifting through numbers. Some acolytes retreat into temple life, their head so into theology and interest rates that they lose touch with normal people, and Dahlia believes normal people ARE civilization. I imagine Aegor would see that as strength of will, if not of body, since she has a soft city-girl body, but is willing to put on a suit of chain and swing a mace at someone's face too, and that'd probably be worthy of respect. Even a pampered pet dog or cat can bite!

On the flipside, Dahlia could see Aegor the same way. Some "tree-kneelers" just go out into the wilderness and never come back, living as hermits and communing with nature and not DOING anything, but Aegor is a druid who is willing to contribute to and be part of the civilized world, instead of writing it off completely. He may be a beast, but he's not a dumb beast, and he clearly has SOME elfity (I don't know what the elf version of "humanity" would be).

Here's my current setup of bonds. Lemme know if they need correcting!

Piper Zappenpop has insulted my deity; I do not trust them.
Halek the Duskwarden is a good and faithful person; I trust them implicitly.
Aegor the Beast is in constant danger, I will keep them safe.
I am working on converting Chipluck to my faith.

Human Cleric 1 | HP 23/23 | Armor:1 | XP:0 | Str:9(+0) Dex:8(-1) Con:15(+1) Int:13(+1) Wis:16(+2) Cha:12(+0)

@ Halek: Honestly, part of me thinks that Dahlia would think Halek is a good and faithful person: He already comes from a very urban city and he left Korvosa because of the corruption in the city, something Dahlia would greatly respect him for. If we were using standard Pathfinder alignments, Dahlia would be Lawful Good, wanting to help society build to the most fair and just version possible, but she understands systemic issues can't be solved by a single person, so she wouldn't think of him as a coward for leaving when the city turned against him and the Sable Company.

@ Chipluck: I could see Dahlia knowing something incriminating about you, maybe involving money changing hands that she spotted in her records. I was wondering if maybe you'd be interested in having her trying to convert him: she doesn't turn you in because she thinks you can still be guided down a better path, using your unique skills to STOP crimes and injustices instead of committing them?

@ Aegor: I was thinking you'd work well for the "in constant danger" bond. I mean, you're a lone druid in the big city, probably in need of a streetwise guide to keep you from stepping on too many civilized folks toes, and who knows civilized folk better than a priestess of the god of civilization? I think it'd be an interesting dynamic, especially if I'm in your "great danger" bond. Two people representing the polar opposites of nature and civilization mutually respecting each other and working together rather than glaring daggers at each other every night across the campfire.

Piper has insulted my deity; I do not trust them.

Actually, Road to El Dorado's a DreamWorks movie. Dahlia got her start as an accountant, quibbling over details like that's her thing! ;)

I could definitely see her sharing a secret with Silas. Since she's had access to peoples' financial records through the Temple of Abadar, it'd make sense if she found some compromising transaction that a guy like Silas might want to know about...

Hey Pip! You think you might work for "X has insulted my deity?" Looking at your sheet I noticed you follow Gorum, and Dahlia probably would be wary of someone so eager for war, since war disrupts peaceful civilizations. Plus, considering that due to its Lawful Neutralness, the church of Abadar tolerates slavery in places like Cheliax and Kaer Maga, it'd be easy to see why Pip might think Dahlia's god is full of it and let her know to her face.

So...it's over already? Was I too late?

Corauni's background is now complete, reproduced here for easy reading!

Background:
The only daughter of Margrave Cilas Graydon, Corauni never saw her family's holdings of Sturnidae, her father having fled to Lozeri to escape the wrath of the tyrannical Count Neska of Barstoi. It was in Lozeri that Cilas met his wife, Talabretha, more for her dowry and a desire that the Graydon line not end with him. Even after Corauni was born, her parents never really stayed together often, Lord Cilas travelling between Lozeri's numerous hunting lodges, while Talabretha lounged in her Cortaud apartment stuffing her face with exotic treats. Corauni spent most of her early life with tutors and servants than with her family. These tutors sparked a love of learning that quickly became her defining virtue.

When Corauni was about 15, her mother tragically died of a heart attack, and when Lord Graydon returned for her funeral, he was stunned at how clever his daughter truly was, and how neglectful he'd been, both of her and her mother. He swore to make it up to Corauni, and paid to send her to the prestigious Lepidstadt University in neighboring Vieland. Though now they were separated again, Cilas made it a point to correspond with his daughter through regular letters. Bolstered by her father's trust, Corauni eagerly learned everything she could get her hands on, mastering the basics of alchemy and the natural sciences, nearly memorizing the history of the Inner Sea and its nations, and becoming an accomplished fencer, earning the prestigious Lepidstat Scar. Tragically, as Corauni came close to graduating at the top of her class, fate decided it had more grief in store for her. Her father's last letter came with another from Ascanor Lodge, where he'd been staying of late, informing her than an evil spirit had murdered her father. Though the monster had been slain by a band of heroes travelling through the area, Corauni was now alone in the world.

Alone at her graduation, Corauni was uncertain of what to make of her new life as the head of the Graydon family. She pondered what direction her life might take, as she had an education but no way to apply it, power and no clue what to do with it, until one of her professors came to her with an interesting offer. Unbeknownst to Corauni and even to his wife, Lord Cilas had been a member of the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye, and now Corauni was being offered a place in the mysterious organization as well. Her professor dared suggest she may even make a better member than her father, who seemed to have lost his drive after his exile. At first, Corauni was thrilled that this ancient secret society considered someone as young as her an equal, but as she began to attend meetings, she couldn't help but feel disappointed by it. It started with a few mispronounced words in the Ancient Osiriani tongue, and then a rite that didn't match any she'd read about. She began to feel that members of the Order had just appropriated mysticism and trappings of Osiriani culture without understanding its purpose or meaning, an opinion that earned her few friends among the other Order members.

But their scorn sparked an idea in Corauni. The Order's origins lay in mysterious artifacts that had been brought to Ustalav from Osirion, so perhaps going there would shed light on the Order's murky past, bringing clarity to its rites and understanding to its members. Spending every last bit of her inherited fortune, Corauni kitted herself out for adventure and set sail from Caliphas, travelling down Lake Encarthan towards the Inner Sea and from there to Absalom and then to Sothis. Corauni was amazed by the grand capital of Osirion, and how much history lay in its walls and streets, more than even the oldest Ustalavic cities could boast. She began seeking like-minded colleagues to mount an expedition into some of Osirion's more mystical ruins, a search which led her south, down the River Sphinx, to Wati...

Personality:
Confident; In Corauni's mind, the key to success and survival is preparation. She strives to be as prepared as she can, and this makes her feel that there's no challenge she doesn't have the tools to solve.

Inquiring; Corauni is always questioning and analyzing what she comes across, believing the search for truth does not dispel the wonder of the world but enhances it. She has little patience for those who are content with a simple answer when they could have the RIGHT answer.

Loyal; The Graydon family was famous for producing knights of unbending loyalty, almost to a fault, and Corauni is no different. Though in a foreign land, with no prince to bow to, she will never let those who depend on her down while she draws breath.

Concieted; Corauni can sometimes come off as condescending or rude due to her upbringing as the last scion of a noble house. Her virtue comes more from a sense of noblesse oblige than a genuine desire to help others, and she genuinely believes that she knows best. She also insists on wearing dark clothing that just isn't practical for Osirion's hot climate to make a fashion statement.

Pious; Despite being a woman of science and reason, Corauni maintains a strong faith in Pharasma, despising the undead just as much as any Ustalav. She also sees it as a connection between the world she's come from to the world she's exploring, as she's aware of the Garundi origins of Pharasma's faith.

Description:
Ht: 5'6"
Wt: 150 lbs.
Age: 23
Hair: Black
Eyes: Violet
Skin: Pale, which burns easily

Corauni cultivates the look of the Gothic Varisian beauty, with pale skin and rich clothing in blacks and dark purples, which she refuses to exchange for more comfortable, lighter clothing in Osirion's sweltering heat. Her build is curvy, a well-toned physique hidden behind the plumpness that comes with a noble's idle life. Her backpack, stuffed with adventuring gear and reagents, almost looks out of place compared with the rest of her elegant ensemble. In addition to a parasol, she sports a wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun off her, as she sunburns easily. She always seems to have her nose turned slightly up, as if she's subtly looking down on the world, though she'll blush and attempt to stop if it's called to her attention.

Archpaladin Zousha, here! I've completed most of Corauni's statistics. If anything's off about my math, please correct me. I will complete her background and description tomorrow.
