1 person marked this as a favorite.

Saw the thread necro of 2022 and it got my hopes up. Sad.

Seconding and following. I hate that you can't pull HQ images from the Interactive Maps PDF. Honestly the most disappointing purchase from Paizo.

Not sure if this is rules discussion or advice.

I'm brand new to PF2E, so forgive my ignorance.

The spell gust of wind. Since it is a line, if the target succeeds, fails, or critically fails their save, can they just take move 5' to the side and advance normally?

Thank you both so much for the quick replies!!

No, you can't. But you can add any first level spell heightened at second level to your spell repertoire. You will only be able to cast it with a second spell slot, but you'll have it.

Also, remember that you can freely swap one spell for another, so you can get rid of a first level spell to put the new one instead.

Can I add it as a "heightened " spell, even if it doesn't have a heightened effect? For example Fleet Step.

I'm brand new to pathfinder's second edition, and I'm making my first character. I've tried searching, but can't seem to find a reliable answer. At 3rd level, when I gain access to 2nd level spells. Can I add a 5th 1st level spell to my Repertoire instead of a 2nd level spell?

A few spells (Glyph of warding for example) say an area "5 sq. ft./level".

Does this have to be a square, or is it shape-able as long as it's total area does not exceed 5 sq. feet/level. It doesn't have the (S) to say it's shapeable, but square feet areas do not have to be square.

I am unable to find an answer to this.

If a caster has an antimagicfield cast on themselves. Can they cast a spell that has effects outside of the field.

For example, could the caster use holy smite targeting only targets outside of the field. It is not being "cast into", "brought into", or "used within".

An antimagic field suppresses any spell or magical effect used within, brought into, or cast into the area, but does not dispel it. Time spent within an antimagic field counts against the suppressed spell’s duration.

The first strands of the sun's light wash over her face as she looks to the sky. A salt laced breeze blows heavily in from the sea, washing over the ship as it pushes into the city.

Her meditations continue uninterrupted, until a dim light begins to glow through the floorboards of the deck above her. As the light grows brighter, the scratching to her back slows, then halts entirely.

So sorry for the delay! I got pulled on a very last minute assignment and have been out of contact for the last few weeks.

Elvar returns the kiss with the same fervor as it is given. The intoxication of her scent, granting him the strength to overcome his fatigue. Though as quickly as it comes, it fades, as he crawls into the bed and nearly asleep before she has had time to dress.

Taking her post, that familiar scratching noise can be heard from Lord Vash's room, but the hall is otherwise quiet. A single lantern flickers where it rests in the hall by a chair in front of his door. Obviously brought down by Elvar to rest as he kept watch.

Elvar's hand slaps against her butt as she saunters away.

Once in her room, it is easy to drift to sleep amidst the gentle rocking of the waves. After what feels like hours of rest, you're gentle shaken awake by Elvar's whispering voice in your ear. "It is your turn if you're up for it. I can stay up a bit longer if you need me to."

Lord Vash's voice calls through the door. "I have retired for the evening. Please return for me in the morning."

"Lord Vash has retired for the evening. Captain Cormack told me you would know what to do with this." Able produces a silver key and passes it to Sa'sori.

"As for Ashlyn. Not since she left this morning."

Let them have their fun, but if it gets out of hand. Use in game consequences.

The bounty hunter gets a reputation that the criminals he turns in always escape. Rumors spread that he turns them in then breaks them out hoping the city re-posts the bounty.

The Kitsune breaks out a half dozen times, then suddenly, they up their security. Will the heroes battle the city guard just to save their ally. Does the whole party even know?

If things really get out of hand...

The pair see a bounty they can't pass up. The kitsune takes his disguise and the bounty hunter turns them in to the city guard. The "bandit" is executed on the spot for his crimes. The kitsune is dead and reverts back. Now the guard is after the bounty hunter for his part in it. Especially the fact the guard just killed an "innocent" person.

Even if the bounty hunter escapes. VERY powerful bounty hunters would be after your bounty hunter because he is soiling the reputation of bounty hunters for all of them.

Able scratches at his beard. "Not that I've seen. He asked what inn I would recommend this afternoon, but that was two, three hours ago at least."

He chuckles lightly, "Nothing so dramatic as that. The salt breeze got a bit much to take so I came inside."

"I'm guessing you two will watch over our guest overnight, and then take him shopping in the morning?"

Elvar draws his own weapon, taking the lead as he cautiously moves down the stairs to the crew cabin. As he approaches the bottom, the familiar voice of Able calls out. "Ho there, no need for those out!"

Elvar groans at the sultry implication. Climbing the gangplank after you.

The ship has two lanterns burning at the door to the crew cabins. The deck is otherwise empty.

Perception DC 22:

You spot the outline of two figures on the next boat over paying an unusual amount of attention to the Red Lady. Their lights are all snuffed and the figures and clinging to the darkness around them.

Elvar's Perception Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Elver chuckles lightly, "You really do get all hot and bothered when someone fawns after you. Even if it is a boy like that." Elvar teases with a hint of superiority.

He takes Sa'sori's hand, heading back to the docks. The hurried pace is matched by the retreating sun. Attendants walk the streets lighting lampposts to combat the encroaching darkness.

The docks are a sea of lights, reflecting off the calm waters of the lake. Letting you see the cities beauty in a whole new light.

The herbalist shop has all you're looking for, and you're able to get in and out relatively quickly. When returning to Mortimer's, the shop door is unlocked, though the shop itself is empty.

A small slip of paper folded as a stand sits upon the counter reading "Got hungry. Might come back."

Got called away very last minute on business. I will not be able to post reliably until the 5th. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Toblin's face flushes red at the touch, only growing brighter with the tender kiss as his knees buckle under his nervousness. "I um...if I can be..." His stammering is cut short by the coin placed in his hand. His eyes growing wide at the sum.

Elvar, now awake and moving again, is quick to slip his arm around Sa'sori's waist as they walk away. Though he says nothing, and truly does not seem to be jealous. The closeness with wish he holds her, shows he certainly noticed the young elf's motivation to be so helpful.

The hour arranged to meet with Lord Vash is quickly approaching.

Elvar slowly stirs from his dreams, groggily rubbing his eyes. Toblin is quick to your side as well. "Are you sure you have to g...er...I mean...Are you sure I can't be of any further assistance to you?"

Before I respond. Does Sa'sori not know the name of her father?

Elvar purrs lightly under the sensation her hands provide. Meanwhile, Tomlin has finally located the last scroll he was seeking.

He brings it to Sa'sori, then excuses himself to a small desk across the room full of papers, quill, and ink.

Unfurling the scroll, it appears to be a scroll showing family crests, a notation of the heads of those families, how the family crests have changed over generations, and small excerpts of why the crest changed.

For example, one crest was golden antlers on a field of green. The crest later evolved into golden antlers on a field of green with a dove soaring above. The excerpt below remarking on the the third family head negotiated a mutual preservation treaty between Kyonin and a small village across the West Sellen river known as Xer. The family was awarded land and a minor title by the then queen for the treaty, that title required the adjustment of the coat of arms.

Searching lower, you are able to find a crest belonging to the name Kalisreavil. The crest shows a shining elven curved blade cutting through darkness. The except explains the initial noble title was granted to Kylantha Kalisreavil for "exceptional valor in battle." The scroll does not note any granted land, or any other holdings.

The scroll continues down four generations Kaylessa Kalisreavil, the only daughter of Kylantha. Pervymr Kalisreavil was the eldest son of Kylantha. Phyrra Kalisreavil was the only daughter of Pervymr. The current head of the family being Perishial Kalisreavil. The scroll makes no note of any achievements that adjusted the family's titles or crest for any of the four leaders.

It's mostly a home/work issue. I'm working 12+ hours a day 6 days a week. Then at home, I'm also been very busy remodeling my house. I literally haven't even turned on my tv in almost 2 months lol.

I promise it's not a lack of engagement, just very busy.

His gaze has long left the book, gliding from the floor, up her legs in an outright stare. Though he likely thinks he is being subtle, his awkwardness just draws the attention to him more. His breathing is shallow, as his nerves overwhelm his rushing heart.

His senses slowly return, as he realizes she spoke again. [b]"I...right...umm. There aren't a lot of families that live in Mierani besides in Crying Leaf. Most just go there to fight. I don't think there is a book, but there should be a scroll somewhere up here.

He stands up, using the height to peek down Sa'sori's top, before quickly looking away. He leans in close to the scroll tubes squinting to see the tiny engravings on the edge.

Meanwhile, Elvar has long grown bored, moving to the reading desk on the opposite side of the room and lays his head down to rest.

Tomlin glances back to Elvar with a hint of jealousy, but sets it aside upon hearing Sa'sori's request. He seems blissfully unaware of any thought that she may be checking him out in any way. "Hmm, that's not a family name I am familiar with. It is likely one of the midsize to smaller families."

He starts down towards the back of the Townhalls small library of records. The records are kept mostly on scrolls of heredity and scrolls of pedigree, though there are a few books that are collections of basic information on different houses. Tomlin stops at one of the shelves, squatting down to the second to bottom shelf scanning the titles. "Hmm" He begins to nervously chew his cheek pulling a book from the shelf and thumbing threw it looking for the name she requested.

His face goes red and his body tenses as Sa'sori leans close. His head drops again, though his eyes are certainly wandering to the form next to him. His nervousness makes it hard to assess if he is always this awkward, or if it is her affect on him. "I..um..well...you see...my family is not well off. They cannot afford me to live at home and not contribute. I'm a few months past my name day, so I'm still very new. Please forgive me if I do not do well."

He tenses again, glancing back to the doorway, "I'm sorry. What are you looking for again."

The woman leans back in her seat. "I will need to record your name. It costs one gold to access the records for 1 day. You may make as many copies as you like, show your aid what you wish scribbled. You will be charged 1 gold per page. The building closes promptly at 5 pm. If you are not out by then, you will be escorted out."

She scribbles down Sa'sori's name once she is given it and takes her payment. Then she yells to the back room. "Tomlin! Tomlin!! Get in here!"

A young elf comes rushing into the room breathing heavily from his short run. They boy is likely near or just after his name day. This dark haired elf has a mess of hair covering his eyes. His unkempt missized robes cover his scrawny form as he shyly keeps his eyes cast downward and meekly whispers in a squeaky voice. "Yes ma'am. How can I help you."

Take this girl to genealogical records and show her whatever she needs.

"Yes ma'am comes his quick but equally quiet reply. "This way miss.

Sa'sori makes her way to the town hall, behind the reception desk a mousy looking halfling woman leans over her unsuitably raised deck. Looking down at the young half-elf the woman beacons in a nasally tone. "Can I help you?"

Upon your request she asks just as flatly and nasally as the first sentence, "Will you be wishing to view them, or requesting a copy? Copies will be 1 gold per sheet."

Phargas has a flash of insult, but bites his tongue. Following along across the market in tow with the Sa'sori and Ashlyn. Elvar is easy enough to spot and his list is nearly complete. It is likely he will finish by the time the two girls have found suitable cloaks to be enchanted.

Phargas spots a patrol across the street and scurries away from the group, waving the guards down as he begins his extravagant tale.

When Sa'sori makes mention of going to the Townhall, Ashlyn will point her in the right direction, then break off saying she wishes to visit someone before she returns to the ship. She gives Sa'sori her purchased cloak to be delivered when Elvar takes his supplies back.

I'm sorry, it's been a very busy week. I'll answer the last bit of your post when I can.

The smaller of the two assassins continues away from Sa'sori after the strike. The larger moves across the rooftop and hops across to the next roof and disappears over the pitch.

Phargas dismisses his invisibility and stammers a reply. "I haven't done anything! I was just walking by, and the big one grabbed me off the street! I can't imagine what I could have done. Maybe they saw me as an easy mark." He shrugs and his stammering stops as he retakes his normally relaxed demeanor.

"At least I have good protectors. I'll have to ask the good captain to ensure you two get a bonus."

"So, where are we off to next?" Phargas falls in line behind Sa'sori and Ashlyn as they look for where Elvar has run off to.

It isn't hard to spot him across the square and about two buildings down, Elvar can be seen coming from Ryathalan's Reagents with a sack of goods.

Ashlyn will move to Phargas and pull the dart free. The dart is indeed poisoned, but it seems Phargas was able to resists it's effect as the poison seeps out of the wound. Still, she pulls Phargas away from the coming spell.

Sa'sori's robes glow with arcane power as the frozen chill lashes out. The hooded figures make uses the rope to make an expert dodge, avoiding the effect entirely (Evasion), the rope on the other hand is not so nimble snapping as the smaller hooded figure falls to the ground.

Phargas pulls a small trinket from his cloak, whispering a sing-songy rhyme to the bauble and vanishes from sight.

The smaller of the hooded figures climbs to his feet, then takes off down the alleyway. The larger of the two men moves away from the edge and hides.

S, move action stand, standard to move 30 feet away. Shouldn't be an AOO since Sa'sori hasn't drawn a weapon and doesn't have improved unarmed.

Ashlyn takes the cutless hiding it as she said, taking a position just behind Sa'sori.

At the sudden yelling, Phargas and the shorter of the two cloaked figures make a startled jump, turning their attention to the voice. The larger of the cloaked figures takes advantage of the distraction lifting a blowgun to his lips and shooting a dart at Phargas.

Phargas lets out a grunt grabbing the back of his neck and pulling the dart free. He quickly rushes away from the figures and towards his crew-mates.

The taller cloaked figure in a gruff male voice calls out to his partner. "Let's go. Now!" He turns, activating some magic item to leap to the roof of the herbalism shop. From there, he drops a rope to his partner. His partner grabs the rope and starts to climb up.

Initiative is yours. Phargas is 10' from you down the 10' wide alley. The herbalism shop is two stories with a pitched roof. The smaller cloaked figure has climbed 15' of rope.

No worries. One thing I will point out. The herbalism shop is only a few buildings down from Mortimer's and is in the same open square. So, running into him again is not terribly farfetched. (I only bring it up because I reread my previous post and realized I didn't make that clear.)

Assuming the above doesn't change your action. If it does, please ignore.:

Ashlyn hesitates, "That may be true, but aren't we bound to keep our passenger's safe. I don't want to have to be the one to explain to the Captain if something happens to him and we saw and did nothing."
She offers her protest, but is clearly not of a mind to go along.

The two girls hurry into the busy street. Most of the shops in Greengold are collected in this district, which aids their haste. Elvar is easy enough to spot and catch up with. His first stop, as luck would have it, seems to be the same shop Lord Vash requested his missive be taken to.

It's a fairly large herbalism shop with shelves stuffed to the brim. The gnomish shopkeeper as brightly colored as the plants he tends. The shop is uncomfortably dry and warm, likely from the artificial daylight spell pouring from the cieling.

After Elvar has purchased what he needs, and the letter dropped, the three crewmen head back to the busy streets. Only seconds after leaving the shop, Sa'sori and Ashlyn both hear the hushed whispers of a familiar voice. Taking a few steps to the side of the herbalism shop and peering down the alley, they both spot Phargas communing with two dark cloaked, hooded figures.

Even without hearing the words, you can feel the tension building in their conversation.

I missed something earlier. Since you entered with detect magic, you will note that Mortimer's goggles, gloves, shirt, and belt are all magical.

Ashlyn giggles lightly, "Well, I guess we should go catch up then." She turns on her heel along with Sa'sori. It is about this time, that they realize that Phargas is not in the shop with you. He was still with you just outside, and he didn't mention going anywhere else. Seeing as he is rarely quiet it seems quite odd that he would not have said something before disappearing.

Sounding nothing like his usual self, Elvar nods, "Ok, that sounds nice. I really should work on this list first. I would hate to go to jail." There is barely any reaction to the grope as he is so focused on his newly acquired task.

Ashe giggles quietly at the whole situtaion. Her minx grin betraying that she knew far more than she let on before coming in here. Though that does also lift any lingering concern of the harm that whatever spells were cast could bring.

"So, are we going shopping with Elvar, or clothes shopping?"

Can't seem to find the answer so I thought I would ask.

My PC found a ritual that summons a nightmare. The wording on the ritual is "...the nightmare will serve the person who performed the ritual faithfully for the life of its master."

I know when a summoned creature is killed they return to their home plane and reform over 24 hours.

So, would a nightmare in this case use its Plane Shift racial ability to return to the material plane if the master has not died.

Phargas is actually human.

Entering the shop with her spell running, does little to reveal more than her eyes see. A shop of empty shelves. Only one has any real content. A large spiderweb that has overtaken most of the shelf and the spider who made it. The spider greater than the size of forearm across skitters out to peek at the intruders but does quickly turns its attention to the bugs that flew in with the opening of the door.

Mortimer himself does have a few auras lingering on him.

As Sa'sori begins to speak, Mortimer's ears twitch wildly at every word. His head turned and ear pointed to your lips, he slowly steps closer with each twitch. Among his other, many, eccentricities Mortimer never seems to be looking in quite the right direction. His black googled eyes always off by at least foot or two. Sometimes the wrong way entirely.

"Right, minor on the blade and two cloaks." He whips the burgundy cloak off his shoulders, revealing the sky blue tunic underneath and grey-green trousers. "I guess I can part with this one. The colors smell horrid anyways. I don't know what I was thinking buying this. I must have had a cold."

Suddenly, as though he had a realization, Mortimer turns and licks Sa'sori's face. The unkempt beard scratching her face is all the warning she has before the wet tongue slides across her skin making her envious of the dryness of a dog's lick. "Oh! You're a girl. You'll probably want to pick your own cloak. Fine fine, hurry off and bring them back soon."

Elvar does not take kindly to any man invading Sa'sori's personal space and he starts at the shopkeeper ready to string him up. With a quick gesture, Elvar is suddenly still.

Spellcraft DC 18:

Mortimer used a Hold Person spell, with a silenced metamagic.

"Well, I don't have to be a scholar to know that one is your lover. Jealousy is not an attractive quality. You could do better miss." He shrugs off any further conversation returning to the task at hand. He hops over to the shop counter and begins to scribble on a slip of paper.

Jumping back over the counter one last time, he hands Elvar the paper. Words brimming with magic as he speaks again. "I won't call the guard on your unprovoked attack if you take her coin and buy me these supplies. Bringing back any remaining change."

Spellcraft DC 18:

Mortimer just used a Suggestion spell.

When they all arrive to Lord Vash's room, he has composed a half dozen sealed envelopes that he wishes dropped to trusted contacts in the city he believes can procure the remedy he needs. He offers the letters to Sa'sori and gives detailed directions on where they are to be delivered. He then asks that you return to the ship this evening and stand guard overnight.

Just after disembarking, Ashlyn spots a rabble of poor children gathered on the docks. She calls one over, and pulls an envelope of her own, passing it to the boy with whispered directions on where she wishes it delivered. She offers the boy a silver for his services. The boy's eyes gleam at the coin before stashing it away. He takes off rushing through the streets with haste.

Ashlyn flashes a smile back to the couple, "Ready for the tour then?"

"Why yes! You're from Greengold aren't you? I nearly forgot!" A creaky voice answers from the busy dock. Phargas appears in the crowd, seemingly out of nowhere coming over to your small band. He clearly intends to join you, as though he were invited.

A wild bearded half-elf wearing dark googles in a set of mismatched clothes sits bent over an empty counter in the shop under the sign "Mortimer's". The sign does not even give evidence to what the shop does, and the empty shelves provide no clues either. Sa'sori would have likely passed by without a second thought were it not for Ashlyn's recommendation of this man's impeccable reputation.

As she approaches the man, its hard to tell if he is sleeping on the counter, or what else he could possibly be doing. Even her words do not seem to stir the man. It isn't until the click of Ashlyn's blade being removed from its sheath does he stir. His head pops up, sniffing the air. He quickly jumps onto the counter, grabbing the blade drawing its hilt close to his face sniffing the temper of the blade. "Well well, what can I do with this. Puncturing. Or, maybe make it a Swashbuckler's Rapier! Maybe they'll let me mix and match." He gasps out in excitement. "You want a Dancing, Brilliant Energy rapier don't you! I've never made one of those! I'll start right away!"

I was the last to post?

.....or not....it never showed up yet again. I'll post tomorrow, don't have time today.

"No, I do not believe our guest is ready to leave yet if you want to attend to your own business first. I'm sure you can meet up with whomever else volunteers to guard him. Or you could ask him if he would be willing to stop at the few shops you need while he is shopping."

"To be honest, until our guest finds what he needs. I planned on three days initially, but that seems unlikely given the current circumstances."

Much to her delight, the night passes without incident. In the morning the Captain skillfully guides the ship to dock and once it is tied off dismisses most of the crew. Keeping herself, Able, Sa'sori, Elvar, Ashlyn behind. As well as Phargas, who stated he was not ready to go into town yet.

The Captain explains, "I have business of my own in town. I need to speak to a few contacts to resupply and can't afford to be distracted. With that said, our passenger needs a large quantity of a rare herb. As this is Ashlyn's hometown, she has already agreed to escort him to some of the lesser known shops since it is likely he will be buying the towns whole supply. I would like to ask the rest of you, to provide additional security."

"Without revealing too much, threats against our passenger's life have been made, and the Red Lady is obligated to protect him. I won't order any of you to accept, but I will ask."

We'll add previews of minis to each set's product page leading up to the release of a set. The full list will generally be released shortly before the release date.

I saw this in the FAQ, but it remains unclear to me. If I am subscribed, will a list of minis be available before it ships?

On a business trip this week. Not sure how much I'll be able to post. I will try and get something up when I can.

Over the next couple days, Captain Cormack keeps you posted in the hall near the lords room as a growing tension builds on the ship. Though everyone is trying to hide their concern. Even those that don't know what is happening, can sense the growing worry of their crew-mates. Luckily, Captain Cormack is a strong enough leader to keep the crew focused on their work. It is a welcome relief for all when Greengold is spotted on the horizon, glowing in the light of the setting sun.. The Captain drops anchor, intending to take the ship into dock in the morning.
