Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14
![]() Hello there, It is with a heavy heart that I must tender my resignation from this game. I have had a death in the family recently, and I have to take some significant time to deal with the outcome of this both emotionally, and with its impact on my life. Thank you all for such a great game, and I wish you all a great game in the future. Thank you once again, DM Berwick ![]()

Brynmor:
The last time you heard this particular drum call was before the cannibals came to the hutt, and prayed outside before making a sacrifice...never coming in the hutt...you could see out of the hutt just fine, and they never spotted you as they consumed the sacrificed cannibal. I certainly want to give ample time for everyone to put in input. I shall see you all again tomorrow, and we shall continue this. ![]()

![]() Yuuwa:
You do notice that on top of all this strangeness with Origen, he is also most likely in the incubation period of a rather nasty disease called the Red Ache. Please see the Treat Disease section of the heal skill. Yuuwa: Heal check DC 16:
You also remember that Torden has been looking rather pale these last few mornings...could be that he is coming down with something...yes...yes...the visible symptoms seem to match the Bone Crushing Fever...rather nasty stuff...the name of this mosquito-borne illness comes from the terrifying sensation sufferers experience, as if their bones were being squeezed to pulp from within. The illness then leads to severe headaches, high fevers, and a distinctive rash of bright red dots across the lower limbs and chest. Similar to Dengue Fever Origen:
As if the Aklo, and tentacles weren't enough, you seem to keep waking up feeling nauseous...and a wave of said nausea hits you...please make me a Fortitude save DC 15, or take 1d6 Str damage. You may roll the damage if you fail, if you so choose. This is disease related. The night seems to pass with no interference. Though the cannibal village stays quiet, and the nighttime creatures keep mostly to themselves...the air is filled with a nervous energy. At first light, as everyone is waking from fitful sleep, the jungle is quiet for a moment...then the drums start. A deep, thrumming sound, booming forth from the cannibal camp! Torden: Bardic Knowledge: DC 15:
You take a moment to translate the calls...seems some sort of ritual drumming or tribal rite perhaps...not quite something that is used to call for war or summon help. Brynmor: Not only do these inveterate savages desecrate the Infernal Tongue, they are molesting the very ancient drum calls...this one seems to be a bad attempt at a call for prayer, or beginning a ritual of some sort...Oh Cheliax, she weeps that her drum calls be spoiled so! ![]()

![]() Hey folks. I am pleased with the RP that is going on, and am excited to move things forward. Having said that, I need to pause the plot per se for the next week. I am looking to start back up officially on the 12th of this month (Next monday). My in-laws are out of town, and we are on call with hospice for my wife's grandfather. We will be spending a more substantial amount of time helping out and being over there to take care of their needs. I will necessarily have little to no time to game, and need to pause for just a moment. While I am gone, feel free to move back to the hut, Brynmor, you may share whatever you feel that I have given you earlier with the others, and I would certainly like to see some in game meet and greet, and perhaps some decisions on a solid battle plan or course of action. I trust you all implicitly, so feel free to go with it. If there is anything too crazy, I will find a way to work it in. Thank you for your patience and understanding, DM Berwick ![]()

![]() Round 3 Origen moves and casts again, losing his target in the shadows. Torden moves forward, trying to place himself logically between the cannibal on the hill, and the cannibal that the others are fighting. He twirls his hammer defensively, ready to strike to protect his companions. Yuuwa moves forward to stand next to Origen, ready to attack the first cannibal that comes at Origen. Jonagher successfully feints his opponent, allowing him to bury his dagger deep. The cannibal drops and falls backward off the blade, blood pumping out of a whole in his chest.
Brynmor cleanly cuts the cannibals head from its shoulders, and turns to move up the ridge to the recently freed cannibal. Isandril ducks under the flying head, and rushes up the hill to the last surviving cannibal. Using his momentum moving up the hill, Isandril transfers it all to a powerful thrust straight at the cannibals heart. The blade is buried up to the hilt, the blade poking out the back. The cannibal drops to the ground, looking into Isandril's eyes in surprise as he drops to the ground. Blood flows out of the wound once Isandril's blade pulls free. Wow! You do realize that you took out a sizable scouting force in...18 seconds?!? You guys are setting standards that most modern military forces could never hope to live up to!
The gully suddenly goes quiet...the sounds of combat cease, and the normal sounds of the night return on this cursed island. Annndddd....what do you do? ![]()

![]() Hey howdy! Jarreth, no worries. I hope your power has been restored asap, and that you and yours and healthy and fine. Thank you for your patience once again, and I will be attempting to post earlier tomorrow, either during my breaks at work, or possibly early evening. I will continue to advance those characters whose players are absent. As always, if something just totally doesn't fit, character-wise, let me know and I am certainly willing to retcon. Thank you once again, DM Berwick ![]()

![]() Round 2 Origen moves forward, and fires an acidic ray...but fires wide. Torden twirls his hammer in a defensive swing, ready to defend his companions against all comers. Yuuwa's electrical arc pops between her outstretched hands and the cannibal in front of of Isandril. His flesh sizzles where the arc strikes him, and his skin is burnt to a crisp around the wound. The barbarian drops to his knees with a confused look etched onto his dead face. Jonagher's eyes twitch to his true target a moment too soon, and the cannibal barely counters, reducing the effectiveness of the attack. Rather than skewering the kidney, Jonagher merely scores a deep slash across the barbarian's side. Brynmor's backhanded sweep misses from the darkness. Isandril, seeing the scout drop before him, flashes forward and brings his blade forward to slice the cannibal engaged with the new-comer human with a greatsword. His blade scores a hit, as the barbarian grunts and screams in rage.
The cannibal stuck in the initial trap, flexes bulging muscles, and literally rips the trap apart, freeing himself. He slowly gets up, standing and drawing his blade. The fourth cannibal in line, fighting Brynmor and now Isandril, ducks under Brynmor's swing, and slashes out with his broken blade...and his swing easily goes wide from not being able to clearly see his opponent. The last cannibal fighting Jonagher slashes out into the darkness, and mangages to score a hit. The cannibal seems surprised as his blade connects with something other than shadows and darkness...[-4 HP, 21/25]
![]()
Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14
![]() Finally catching their breath collectively after the trap was sprung, the Cannibals all howl in unison. Their veins bulge, their flesh reddens, and the light of intelligence seems to leave their eyes as they froth at the mouth. The cannibal next to Jonagher, turns and brings his blade down in a vicious and crude overhand chop. His timing off, as his muscles bulge. He moves slow enough that Jonagher easily dodges out of the way. After having just watched Brynmor slice his tribe-mate in half, one cannibal charges Brynmor, and brings his blade to bear. His blade scores a hit, drawing blood. Brynmor:
-6 HP, 23/29 After getting slammed with attack after attack, the cannibal in front of Isandril turns, and swings at him first. His blade whistles as it slices through the air...not from fine craftsmanship, but from the brute force behind the blade. His slow movements are easy for the elf to dance away from, causing the attempted strike to miss. The cannibal stuck in the trap on the ridge struggles, but is unable to free himself.
Ok, back on you guys... ![]()

![]() Round 1 Origen jumps onto the path, puffing, and sends off a familiar acidic ray. The ray slams into the cannibal in front of him, and he can see it burn some of the skin and muscle. Torden moves in front of Origen, pulling his hammer, and preparing for any to come near. Yuuwa moves to stand next to Torden, and fires off another Icicle. She barely misses as the cannibel recovers from Origen's wound, causing her icicle to fly wide. Jonagher's slice takes the cannibal in the jawbone and cheek, causing blood to spray out on the trail. The cannibal howls and turns to face Jonagher, grimacing, and cursing at Jonagher. Brynmor:
The cannibal is cursing Jonagher, and using various expletives that were popular in Cheliax 50 years ago. An analogy would be modern day people reading how Shakespeare used to cuss people out in his plays. Not that great of a time span, but certainly considered old fashioned and out of date. Brynmor grimly moves down the path, drawing his greatsword as he goes. The sound of a blade clearing the sheath can be heard over the grunts and dim of the ambush. Brynmor uses his momentum, coming down the ridge, and brings his blade down in an overhand chop, severing the cannibal in front of him neatly in two. NICELY DONE! Brynmor:
You can see clearly now that these people are emphatically NOT cannibals. They do not sport any Asmodian tattoos or scars, and seem to be fighting against the cannibals desperately. They do seem as though they have been running. Perhaps they are somehow responsible for the commotion that you heard earlier tonight? Isandril rushes forward, drawing his weapons, and slashes quickly at the same cannibal that Origen fired at. His slash connects and opens up the cannibal from shoulder to hip, a roar and a grunt coming from the target as his blood spurts out. I am at work, so I will conduct the bad guys around the battlefield when I get home. Thank you for your patience in these trying times.

![]() Thank you for your patience! Here we go again! I am hoping my cannibals survive into the next round! Does having the bad guys go all at once, after you, help? I know it drops a bit of the verisimilitude, but some sacrifices must be made in the name of gaming... Let me know what you think... also, what are your thoughts on using the massive damage rules for NPC's? (i.e. does not apply to you or BBEG's, just mooks and supervisors) Brynmor: Hello there! Just wanted to say that I really appreciate you giving me options for your actions, in case one becomes invalid for some reason through actions of other players and so on. That REALLY helps! In the future, could you go ahead and roll for me, please? I certainly understand if your options are really different and there could be several things going on, but if it is between hit/shoot this guy or that, please just roll, and I will go ahead and apply any modifiers for different ranges or lighting conditions, so on and so forth. I certainly will roll for you guys if the situation demands it, but I always feel guilty about it...I feel bad when the dice-bot gives the players no love when I roll. Thanks once again, and welcome to the game! ![]()
Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14
![]() Hmm...perhaps I am not explaining this well enough. The only one who really has to worry about the climb check is Brynmor, everyone else is just off the road, at the bottom of a gully-like area, that is perhaps 30 feet wide. Lets peg the general lighting condition at dim light. All creatures technically have concealment (20% miss chance) from those without darkvision or light-vision. You can make a stealth check to conceal yourself. As the cannibals try to react quickly, the group springs to action. Origen prepares to cast a grease spell targeting the first cannibal who approaches within 30'. Torden's deep baritone chants an ancient melody. The last cannibal in the group sways in time with his chant for a moment, but seems to shake it off. Yuuwa pops up out of the thick grass and cattails, and points at the now lead cannibal, a missile of ice flies out towards it's target. The cannibal turned at the last minute, dodging out of the way as the missile flew by. Jonagher, yes you may still attack, as that climb check does not apply to you. Jonagher ghosts out of the brush, just as the cannibal in front of him sprouts a dagger from the liver. The dagger goes in almost to the hilt, and the cannibal lets out a loud gasp. He falls to his knees, trying to reach for the dagger blade, and falls face first onto the path...dead. Deep, dark blood pumps out of the wound around the dagger. Brynmor can detect an opposing force ambushing the cannibals as they were apparently running back to camp. Details are sparse, as it is a clear night lit only by the moon, but it is easy to differentiate between cannibal, and not-cannibal...clothes being an easy identifier. The opposing force set up a snare trap, and caught the first cannibal on the path. He is speared through the body, and is wiggling about halfway down the ridge. Brynmor turns, and takes a moment to aim, focusing on the next cannibal in the line, as he notices the others seeming to mass attacks on this on. Due to the quality of the light, Brynmor's shot goes wide...the moon is out, but these are not good fighting conditions for a human. I will assume that Brynmor, being a trained soldier, would go for viable targets first. Personally, I do not qualify "trap-boy" as viable, as he is caught in a rather nasty trap, and seems at the very least contained...for now. Let me know if this is not the case, we can retcon. Isandril can smell the very essence of human on these degenerates. He expertly pops up, takes aim, and lets a bolt fly home, hitting the now lead cannibal in the arm. Miss chance does not apply because of low-light vision, correct? With that, we go to the top of the list, Origen, for Round 1. Good luck!

![]() Moving to the trap site, somewhat into the gulch, but further south than the cannibals old ambush site, the party prepares a warm welcome for their hosts.
The cannibals rush into the kill zone, intent on returning to assist the main camp. Unfortunately, the lead cannibal doesn't spot the trap in time. Possibly a combination of running in the dark night, and rushing back to answer the call of the drums... The vines snap taught around its ankle, and jerk him up off his feet, to the eastern slope. As the trap finishes, two spikes jerk through his body, causing him to grunt in pain. He flails about, suspended upside-down, partway up the hill side. The other 5 cannibals are stunned by the sight just long enough for the group to spring their trap. You all may go before they get a chance to go. As this is a surprise round, there is no need for initiative. I shall roll init for round 1, and include Brynmor so that he can jump in when ready. Good luck.

![]() Jonagher destroys a skeleton as he rushes past, sprinting for safety. The other skeletons zero in on him, and all bring their broken cutlass' to bear. Each strike misses by mere hairsbreadths as Jonagher deftly dodges and moves into the jungle like a ghost. The rest of the group hightails it back to the rendezvous point, hearing the chaos and drums fade into the distance. Jonagher meets them shortly thereafter, and the group moves out quickly. Just as they pass the rigged spike trap that Jonagher left for the cannibals, they come across a fork in the path, the left leading back where they came, and the right, leading up into the hills towards that abandoned shack that was spied earlier. Shouts and several figures running can be heard on the left path, though you definitely know that could not have spotted you yet. Torden's warning about the scouts returning perhaps... Up to you folks...face some cannibals, seek the concealment of the abandoned hut, or perhaps a third choice of awesomeness that you are about to rock me with....up to you.

![]() Howdy all! Jury duty is over. I will be posting tonight for some IC goodness, and to get this story moving again. Apologies for the delay...civic duty and all. As far as your questions go Jarreth: Jarreth wrote:
Answers: a)I would prefer you create your character with the wealth of a 2nd level character...I think that is where everyone else is...the payoff just hasn't happened yet, though it is coming....soon. I am not against you creating a character with wealth for your 3rd level, but I would leave that up to the others really. I don't want them to feel left out, but if you start with 3rd level wealth, the payoff will be smaller for you as you will already have been "paid."b)I would still select something from the AP. There are several good reasons. According to what you have posted for your backstory so far, you had to get there somehow. I would not select the crewmember one in this case if I were you, but the others don't seem to untoward. The bad news is...you crashed on this forsaken island. The good news is...you either crashed on your way to Sargava, or on your way back. (You can choose) Either way, I would surmise that you landed earlier than the others, and are the only survivor of your crash. Your crewmates fed the cannibals for a little bit whilst the meat was still fresh. Any other questions? ![]()

Round 5
Following behind him is the wounded cannibal that Jonnagher shot earlier. Also, four more guards pump out of the door, following their Chieftain. They stick around the entrance to the tower, javelin's in hand. Muffled screams can be heard from the second floor of the tower, as several females poke their heads over the railing on the balcony above to watch the burning barracks building, concern for their chieftain and the barracks on their face. Okay...Yuuwa, Isandril, Jonnagher, Origen, and Torden are up. I may rework the initaive to have you go, then them or something to make this easier. I will be checking periodically to update their actions. ![]()

![]() Round 4 Yuuwa retreats after ensuring her kill. I will assume she moves off the map. The fire set by the elemental kicks up, and rages out of control, spreading quickly with a sudden gust of wind in from the ocean. For all intents and purposes, the fire now lights up the area enough to see as well as daylight in the camp, the light blocked only by the trees. As the fire rages, an old crone hobbles in from the south east, flanked on either side by skeleton warriors. She has small animal skulls and old ratty feathers tied to her in many ways, and her hair is in tattered dreads, her eyes are misshapen and milky. She cackles and dances at the sight of the flames as a small monkey capers about, screaming. Isandril pulls back as well, keeping a vigilant eye on the retreat. A note: if you originally roll something, and report it, I am comfortable with that...I, myself, have run into issues with the dice roller and editing, and what not. If it were another group, I might have doubts, but so far, you all are imminently trustworthy. Jonagher seeing the cackling old crone, pops out of his hiding hole and fires an arrow at her. The arrow pierces a slight blue glow about her, before slamming into her side, and nearly knocking her off her feet. She screams, and starts yelling in that pidgin infernal as she visually scans for her attacker, and the skeleton start to rattle and moan. She spots Jonnagher as he ducks back behind some cover, and curses in her unclear infernal. Her left eye glows red for a moment, and she spits in Jonnagher's direction. Jonagher:
Ack! She has given you the evil eye! Will save DC 17, or take a 02 to AC for 8 rounds, this is a mind affecting effect. She howls in rage as the skeletons move in on Jonnagher's position. They seemingly surround him, but cannot find him. STUPID DICE BOT! The original fire that Jonagher set continues to get larger and larger steadily. The cannibals, seeing the witch suddenly double over, come running to her aide. The surround her in a wall of their own bodies, ready to intercept an attack on her. Origen moves along with Isandril and Yuuwa, he is not in a position to see Jonnagher's plight, but he does hear a LOT of commotion going on. Torden is able to piece together several thoughts about the drums as he follows the others down the trail. As they move down the trail, Origen is able to clearly see Torden from the light of the fire that was set. Torden:

![]() Good good. If you take the Chelaxian route, have any thoughts as to taking infernal as your other language selection? Not a requirement, and I do not know if it will have an impact on the rest of the AP, but just a thought. And yes, I had thought about introducing you as a captive, but it seems as if everyone is retreating...discretion being the better part of valor and all... ![]()

![]() Sorry about that...hadn't taken the time to clarify. Yes, level 3 is fine...normally I would put it at the standard average level -1, but as I am unfamiliar with PbPs for the most part, I would rather you be on equal level so that there is no confusion about various things in the future. I will be checking here periodically concerning your questions, but I trust the group to answer honestly, and with forethought. Please take their recommendations as my own when dealing with questions of mechanics. Thank you, and once again, welcome! DM Berwick ![]()

Origen casts and retreats quickly, as Torden moves forward to get a better look. Torden:
You see the large building, identified as some sort of barracks, largely on fire, with smoke rising into the night. The jungle mostly blocks your view to the south, but you can see shadows of panicked cannibals running around on the buildings across from the barracks. Round 4
Over the fire, the group can hear some bellowing, followed shortly thereafter by some drumming...a deep drumming sound that is almost felt more than heard...the sound...it must be traveling for miles.
Yuuwa, Isandril, Jonagher, Origen, and Torden...you are up. Perhaps at the end of this round, we shall pause to welcome the new player? Up to you guys, I would love to get the new player in ASAP. ![]()
Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14
![]() Jarreth, welcome! Your initial idea sounds good, but don't limit yourself into thinking just Cheliax here. For how new characters can get introduced on the island, there are a bunch of choices. Ultimately, it would be some sort of wreck survivor, most likely picked up by the Cannibals, or even hunting them solo after you came ashore, coming in on the fight after detecting a lot of commotion. As such, you could be from anywhere...a Sargavan native, a Pathfinder adventurer sent out from, well...anywhere. There could be a thousand possibilities there. If you have your heart set on a Chelaxian though, that can be a good choice as well. Bear in mind, the rest of the group has an affiliation with the Pathfinder Society in game, so I would appreciate your participation in that. Also, Here are the basic character creation rules, though some have changed...be advised If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here, or email me at the address below. I know that the others have received help with the mechanics behind their concepts, so please feel free to ask. I am blessed with some AWESOME players here, don't be afraid to draw on their knowledge if you so need it. My address: ![]()

Eric, no worries about reposting initiative, I should have remembered to do that every round, if i don't feel free to call me on it, and I'll fix it. Halfway up the tower, a curtain is thrown back, illuminating a dark ledge. An imposing figure steps out to survey the camp, and starts barking in the same language that you heard before. The large male figure jumps back into the room, and disappears. Yuuwa turns, and fires another electrical arc at the giant lizard. It yelps and sways back a forth, still caught in the trap of Origen's spell. With a grin, the fire elemental drops through the burning hole in the roof of the thatched building, and you can hear the screams of several people inside. Both started fires expand more, taking on more and more of the building. Even now, this early in the fight, the fire is becoming something truly impressive, lighting up the entire camp. Soon, it will improve all lighting conditions for the rest of the camp. A door slamming can be heard to the south, as well as a strange rattling sound...like bones clacking together. Isandril lets his bolt fly, piercing the large lizard through its throat. The beast roars, and drops, it blood pumping out onto the path. It breaths slowly, but it seems to be fading rather fast. Jonagher ghosts into the foliage across from his previous position, and lines up a shot. His arrow slices through the rising heat waves and confusion, and finds itself buried in the chest of a panicked cannibal. Jonagher:
Couldn't get you within the 30' necessary for the ranged sneak attack damage to apply. sorry about that. If you could have, you would have certainly dropped the guy. The fire that Jonagher first started spreads even further. The Cannibals around the bonfire panic! They spread out, looking about blindly for a moment, trying to find out where they are being attacked from. The one that Jonagher hit, staggers toward the tower, calling something out in their pidgen infernal. Even injured, the man seems to continue forward at a good pace, disappearing into the door near the base of the tower. Three cannibals burst out of the burning building. One speaks rapidly with one of the other cannibals from near the fire, and points back into the building. His deep tan is marred from the obvious burns over his exposed chest.
And with that, we need actions from Origen and Torden to continue. I will post for them tomorrow (hopefully near noon) if they have not responded, with likely actions. Good luck. ![]()

![]() Well sorry about that folks! When my relatives mentioned that they lived off the beaten path, they failed to mention that they lived 45 minutes away from the nearest cell phone signal...or that they were basically neo-luddites and apparently don't believe in things like internet access. Interesting way to live, but causes problems for contacting the outside world. Now that I am back to the world, I will be posting tonight to catch up everything, and then push ahead. F. ![]() Round 2, cont. Isandril moves forward, reloading the crossbow, and prepares to defend the others if needs be, but is ready to follow the previously established plan. Jonagher steps further into the brush after warning Yuuwa, and fires another shot off at the lizard. The arrow slams into the lizard as it hissed at Yuuwa, catching it in the front shoulder. The fire that Jonagher started spreads a bit more, eating more and more of the barracks house that he found. Shouting can be heard inside. Origen moves forward, and readies himself to cast quickly. Torden stands his ground, again ready to cast his spell if anything should come at them. The Lizard hisses and charges forward at Yuuwa, coming up short suddenly as the thick vine snaps taut. As the lizard comes around the bend, both Origen and Torden start casting. Origen's blast of color radiates out, catching the lizard right in the face. It blinks and yelps, but then seems stunned from the sudden cacophony of light. It seems to shrug off the effects of the sleep spell, however.

![]() Alright, I hope everyone had a good weekend...and with that...on with the show! Noted the retcon for Origen, and that is fine. Is it easier for everyone with a map that you can edit yourself? I know Niel has problems accessing from work...still brainstorming on that one. The surprise round was lighting the fires, which alerted the guards on top of the platform, the cannibals around the fire should still be treated as "surprised" until the alarm goes up...the first guard you killed was about to do that. The rest of the cannibals are unaware of the situation. Though, if there are any in that first building on fire...they are about to become "aware" of the situation in a big way. The letters in the initiative count are for folks that rolled the same initiative, and it shows who goes in what order. Sorry for the confusion.
Round 1
Torden readies an ancient tune that he knows, one liable to cause a sudden and deep slumber. Isandril's crossbow twangs, as his bolt flies true. The other guard on the platform, suddenly sprouts a bolt from his chest. Stealing his breath, as he tries to scream from the injury and the devilish glance from the fire elemental. The group hears some more snuffling, and the slight popping sound of ropes or vines being stretched to the limit. For the cover of the jungle, just after the path curves out of sight, comes lumbering some larger-than-normal lizard...perhaps 8 feet long, and possibly 200 to 250 pounds. This immense lizard moves with a slow but relentless gait. Its feet end in large talons, and ropes of drool hang from its toothy maw. It sniffs at the air and ground, as if searching for someone or something. Around its neck is tied a vine trailing off behind him into the jungle, as if this was some pet...or guardian. Round 2
The fire elemental, hearing the siren call of her Mistress, laughs at he wounded guard and moves for the guard. The guard pivots on his feet, throwing himself backward, and starts to run away, falling off the platform and dropping prone at the bottom of the platform. There is a loud crunch, and the elemental reports that the silly human is laying down on the job with his neck bent at an impossibly funny angle. It moves on to other pursuits. It runs along the roof, moving toward the front of the hut. It is still barely in sight, as it starts to dance on the roof, igniting the thatch beneath its feet. Initiaitive for Round 2
Isandril is up, followed by Jonagher, a quickly spreading fire, Origen and Torden (who still have held actions, though I don't know if any enemy combatants will live long enough to attack you) and finally the lizard. ![]()

![]() Jonagher peers into the gloom created by the firelight bouncing off the trees, and spots the beast he did previously. He creeps forward, passing near the guard shack, and approaches the large hut from the east. [near V6] As he crouches next to the wall, the shuffling and snuffling grows to a loud grunting. The guards yammer something in their infernal language, and call out. The cannibals sitting around the fire notice, and come over to investigate. They walk within 5 feet of Jonagher, investigating something in the woods across from him, the source of the snuffling and grunting. They pass by him, paying no attention to him whatsoever...Jonagher melts back into the shadows as they approach and pass by. The cannibals stop, looking at the bushes where the noise is coming from, and then turn and face directly at Jonagher. They peer into the shadows, raising weapons and getting ready for a fight. Sensing nothing...they pause, then lower their weapons, make some rude gestures at the noisy bushes, some more yammering in that language, and then move back to the fire. Jonagher moves about the hut, and pears into some of the cracks in the walls. It is dark inside, but he sees several hammocks hung about, with four sleeping cannibals in them. Owning to the fact that the inhabitants are mostly naked, Jonagher can detect no females in the group that he can see. It seems to be some sort of barracks for the men. He works methodically, lighting several sections of the roof on fire. He makes it back to the group as the fire catches, and starts building quickly. He shares his information quickly as the flames build higher. You may read spoilers for Jonagher in last post. The guards look quickly to each other, deciding on what to do. Initiative results
Yuuwa is up first, you guys have an opportunity to direct the flow of battle if you can interrupt their response. Good luck. ![]()

Jonagher ghosts forward, creeping forward like a mist upon the ground. He moves closer to the edge of the small cliff, staying low and watching for more guards. He makes it closer to the guards, crouching in some shoulder high ferns and grasses. He gets a better look at the camp and freezes, holding each muscle still, and breathing shallowly to avoid detection. Jonagher:
You see a four legged squat creature tied up here, it has a foul stench to it, and a huge maw, dripping ropey saliva. It snuffles the air, and seems extremely agitated. It starts to make a lot of noise, inadvertently as it seems to fidget. You suddenly realize that this thing can smell you! It has not pinpointed your location, but your presence has agitated it considerably. Everyone else:
You see Jonagher enter some cover, and suddenly freeze, his attention drawn to the south of his position. You hear the snuffling noises grow more agitated, and can hear a shuffling that starts along with it. Something is agitated, and something is sniffing the air! I will go ahead and NPC Jonagher, until such time that he says he is ready to come back...give me a moment. ![]()

![]() Quick question, Jonagher, what path do you take? Can you see the map, if so, could you indicate to me a starting point, general path, and end point? Normally not an issue, but here for the first round, it will be. The hill basically starts out at AF6, and heads basically straight south for 6 squares to AF12.
For those interested, here is a table used to build this encounter. ![]()

![]() No no, I am here. I have been struggling with how to execute this...err...(bad choice of words), trying to account for the possibilities....had to develop a flow chart. Though, with the way you guys fight...you will probably steamroll over the encounter before I have a chance to exercise more of the...intriguing...encounter possibilities...you guys are strong combatants. I will post more tonight. I will be doing some behind the scenes work around noon, but will continue with as much as I can before I get home. ![]()

![]() First things first, Eric, go ahead. You haven't used any of these that would require a retcon, so no worries. Also, Niel, as you will probably have a lot to do up there, I will wait till you get back. I suppose I can pause for the coolest convention of the year...in my eyes anyway. The team can take this time to plan anyway. Thank you all for bringing your awesome to this digital table, As always, DM Berwick ![]()

![]() I will assume that the trap is dealt with. Jonagher may decide in what fashion. I am moving the plot forward.
As the group creeps forward, being mindful of the path, they come to the crest of a small hill, and see an active cannibal camp. Nestled at the base of a lighthouse, there are perhaps 2 free standing huts that you can see. There is also another medium sized structure connected to the lighthouse. The Lighthouse looms over the camp. Dusk is falling, and the only light to speak of is from a large bonfire in the middle of a large open area. There are perhaps 4 or 5 figures sitting around the fire. They are eating, and seem to be gnawing large bones with meat on them, like a turkey leg but slightly bigger. You can hear a shuffling noise, indicating an animal nearby, but it certainly sounds bigger than your average house cat or dog. You take all this in silently, looking about for guards. You suddenly spot two, sitting on a guard platform, 10 feet above the jungle floor on stilts. They haven't spotted you yet, but they seem vigilant. This is a dynamic encounter. It will change and adjust to your behavior. Good luck. I will post a map. Please wait to react until you see said map. ![]()

![]() Origen, and Jonagher notice the trap as they come around the corner. Jonagher steps forward, and begins to study the trap. Mere moments pass, before he is able to discern how this trap works. Jonagher:
You beat the DC by more than 10. You can bypass it safely without triggering it, you can rig it so that others can bypass it, or you can dismantle it for parts as per our previous discussion. Need to step out for just a second. I shall post more tonight. ![]()

![]() That was where I stayed. Nice hotel. Lots of history. That was supposedly where the govenor (Huey Long) kept his mistreses. Go up to the top floor and check out the pool and what not. That place is really close to you acutally. Leave the hotel, and head for the police department. It is right around there. Ask the doorman for the best place to get breakfast. I think it is the same place. When you walk into the place, it has a big bar there, so if you go somewhere and it has no bar, that's not it. I will talk with my family when they get up and try to wrack their brains for information. This is so funny. What a small world. If you are into that kind of thing, see if you can make it to the aquarium down there on the waterfront. It is a really cool one. ![]()

![]() As good as the Hurricane there is, there is another bar in the French Quarter that is over by the New Orleans Cooking School, I will try to remember the name...has the best Hurricane I have ever had. Pat O's are good, and the original, but the other place is better. Nothing like breakfast and a hurricane. I take it you are not staying in the french quarter then?
