Hey James!

Boyfriend and I have been having an ongoing discussion about Xanderghul and simulacra. I think he'd be into using them due to how much he loves himself (more Xans = probably his wet dream) and only trusts himself to be capable of doing things (a la initially trying to wield Baraket himself).
Bf maintains that Xan wouldn't be into using simulacra because he has to be the best Xanderghul around, and having multiple Xanderghuls would mean that, possibly, one might be better than him in some way or another, since Xanderghul-prime is so awesome.
(The fact that simulacra are half level of the caster and "under your absolute command" [spell text] seems to be moot for the bf when I bring that up, and I can see where he's coming from because Xanderghul-prime's ego is big enough that he might come to this conclusion.)

Thus, I'm here. How do you reckon Xan would feel about making/employing simulacra of himself?

I need help. I'm running Wrath of the Righteous, and my player wants to use Trap the Soul on Baphomet, using the trigger object method,

Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth spoilers:
when they come to blows at the end of Book 5.

Spell Description:

"Trigger Object: The second method is far more insidious, for it tricks the subject into accepting a trigger object inscribed with the final spell word, automatically placing the creature’s soul in the trap. To use this method, both the creature’s name and the trigger word must be inscribed on the trigger object when the gem is enspelled. A sympathy spell can also be placed on the trigger object. As soon as the subject picks up or accepts the trigger object, its life force is automatically transferred to the gem without the benefit of spell resistance or a save."

(Setting the logistics of obtaining an expensive enough gem/getting him to touch the trigger object aside...) There's just no way this works no questions asked on a Demon Lord, right? It feels like a cheap solution to what should be a huge confrontation.

Okay guys, I need help.

My player wants to use Trap the Soul on Baphomet, using the trigger object method. He plans to put it on Blancher, which is certainly something I think Baphomet will want to take after the events of Book 4.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hey James! Time for another Kaladurnae question. (Yes, I'm the Kaladurnae girlfriend from here.)

I've had a lot of fun playing shabti Kaladurnae (although we house ruled him as a "runebody" rather than an Osiriani thing) and making him my own throughout Rise of the Runelords and beyond. I love him dearly.

Shenanigans include:

-Making him a worshipper of Yog-Sothoth due to a miscommunication about character creation in Rise vs Return of the Runelords
-Partial amnesia that justified throwing him back down to a lv 1 wizard
-Redemption arc from evil to neutral
-Him taking over Xin-Shalast post-Karzoug
-Having a vacation home in Kaer Maga

Shattered Star Book 6 spoilers:
-Him being the stand-in for our full arcane caster during the Crystal Palace dungeon in Book 6 of Shattered Star. You can imagine how being face to face with Xin again went.

The last bullet point is why I'm here to pick your brain! Considering the official canon timeline in Return of the Runelords, Kaladurnae died before the OG runelord crew

Spoiler:
assassinated Xin.

Did you have any particular idea or reason in mind for why he died so soon when you wrote the runelords' timeline?
