![]() Assuming someone has some rope on hand, and that I can use rope as a finessable 'weapon' (thus CMB +9 rather than +3, otherwise someone else should do it), Corwen binds the man securely before Shimmer fills the area with a healing glow. "Hello there fella," Corwen begins as the man regains consciousness. "Sorry about the puncture in the ribs, but you weren't really listening to reason. Do you know where you are, and why?" ![]()

![]() As the glow from Shimmer's healing spell fades, as do Corwen's wounds, not entirely, but enough that they are no longer gaping and bleeding. "Ah, thank you Shimmer... But maybe now you should see to our once-furry friend. He looks to be in a bad way." Corwen's knowledge test revealed that he knows nothing of lycanthropes, but he did take a bite wound... Anyone who's aware of the dangers of transmission could speak up if they want :) ![]()

![]() Just wondering, do we want to kill this werewolf, or subdue it? It may be unaware that it's that it's a lycanthrope at all, and there seems to be a fair chance it's a villager... And if it is a real villain, as the right hand of the government wouldn't a trial of law be a better idea too? ![]()

You're carrying alchemical items on your belt where they can be readied as part of a move, or you're carrying them in your pack or a haversack? The reason I ask is, if they are on your belt, they can be targeted, and if in your pack, they can't. But, packs take extra time to pull out. I usually ask this when someone uses one for the first time. People hate it when I target them with things like magic missile. :) Makes first level mooks very effective. I had just the one tanglefoot and a couple of smoke pellets, which I have at my belt. If I had more than one tanglefoot, I would assume one bag on the belt, the rest in the backpack. ![]()

![]() Free trip! I hate this guy! Edit: down to 7hp, I think my heroics are nearly done... Let me check my potions. Face taut with pain, and also anger, Corwen staggers to his feet after the werewolf has moved away. With a roar, he hurls a tanglefoot bag at the creature just after it slices into Ikit. Tanglefoot: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 There's also a -1 for range (from memory - in Ireland now, no books or PDFs), but it's touch AC, so here's hoping. ![]()

![]() Having narrowly avoided injury from the werewolf's last attacks, Corwen tries to take advantage of its overextended position. Ducking first to one side, then the other, then back again, he tries to provoke a misstep from the beast. Improved Feint: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 I'm going to assume it doesn't have Sense Motive +20, and thus loses its Dex to AC and lets me add in my sneak damage... Seeing a wide opening as the creature struggles to follow Corwen's darting form, he thrusts his rapier towards the werewolf's exposed ribs. Rapier: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

![]() Corwen's eyes narrow as the werewolf's jaws snap closed right before his face, and he represses another upwelling of fear-induced adrenalin. Hurry up, the rest of you! Side Commentary:
Nice roar! I don't have Kn (nature), so no good :/ I'll take the Perception check anyway, just for funsies. So glad I didn't take a hit there - although to be fair, with a +10 he needed a 17, and a 20 for the bite... Still, that's a 25% chance of being hit, happy to have dodged that bullet. Hopefully my improved feint/rapier + sneak damage takes a nice chunk out of him next round. Still, once I lose that +4 dodge bonus, I'm going to be much more likely (3:2 against) to take a whack or two. Unless I fight defensively... Hmmm. Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 What a waste of a 20... ![]()

![]() Now closer to the fearsome beast, Corwen grits his teeth to stave off the familiar fear of death that he feels during almost every combat situation, and particularly with raging, bloodthirsty, mindless beasts such as this. He moves forward to engage the werewolf, seeking just to avoid its blows and occupy it until the cavalry arrives, or try to feint it and strike hard into its unprotected areas. He rolls forward, encircling it so that it will be caught between him and his companions - if they arrive before the thing tears the half-elf apart. Okay, gonna gamble on it being out of AoOs and move five squares up and one diagonally up/right, so as to be 'above' it on the map, but before that I'll use a standard action to use Total Defence and score a +4 dodge bonus to AC (so now AC 27). Hopefully you guys arrive quickly, but in any case I'm planning to use Improved Feint next round to gain my sneak attack bonus (hopefully!). *crosses fingers that it's out of AoO... ![]()

![]() Ah okay, I would have double moved if I could have, or something else, but no matter... Edit; Oh, I just saw you move me while I was contemplating options on the map! Tactically I was better off before I think, but a double move is what I would have done, hoping the guard would survive so as to flank next round. I'd better close now I guess! I'll post shortly after checking my options. ![]()

![]() Corwen grits his teeth, realising that the creature is too far away for him to be able to intervene before it attacks the remaining guard. Though it goes against all his instincts, he does the only thing he can. Trying to divert its attention from the guard, Corwen draws his rapier and moves forward. "Hey there ugly," he shouts tauntingly (also hoping the noise might also wake others), "I heard your mother was a poodle. Got your looks from your daddy, huh?" Hardly your finest attempt at mockery, he thinks to himself, but if that guard's lucky the thing might turn its rage my way. Sorry, on my phone, so can't change the map, but wanting to go diagonally up/right one square, straight up the other five. Sorry about the crappy attempt at an insult, but hey, it's nearly 4am here in France... And mdt if you think some kind of ability/skill check roll might help in my endeavours to divert its attention, let me know. ![]()

I'd really like to get some idea of this town, and I think a friendly chat between us would be just the thing." Assuming Markey acquiesces - come on, I rolled a 20 on that Diplomacy check! - Corwen follows Markey for a step or two towards the tavern before turning to Shimmer, pointing in the direction he and Markey are walking, the holding up ten fingers before pointing at the kobold, then the direction they are walking once more. ![]() Corwen grimaces. "Lycanthropes... Well, I can start finding out what I can from the locals, once we're settled. I might engage the service of the fellow who piped up in the first place, he seemed to take a shine to me... although maybe I have Shimmer to thank for that," he adds with a cheeky grin, turning to the kobold. "Perhaps let me make the first contact with him, and then I can introduce you once he's fully at his ease. I'll be back shortly." Corwen swings away from the group to walk beside the farmer who spoke up initially. "Now friend, we've not been introduced. Corwen Surefoot's the name," he says, extending a hand. You and your folk are in the midst of dark happenings, perhaps, but fear not, Lord (or is it General? Corwen will use Dante's correct title) Stormborn will see these matters put right." The latent performer in Corwen can't help but continue. "Though now a mighty lord, Dante Stormborn is a man of the people; he'll not leave you to suffer unaided, you can rely on that!" Moving close to Dante, Corwen murmurs quietly to the General, "The peasants fear werewolves, m'lord. It would seem prudent to at least make a superficial investigation of these killings, for local morale if nothing else. If it turns out to be mere wolves, you could just put a bounty on pelts," he shrugs. "The farm folk would take care of the rest." ![]()

Better - kinder - to put it out of its misery quick, like. Buying it a couple more days of life in a hole in the ground? If it could speak, it wouldn't thank you for that." His tone isn't derisive, condescending, or superior, merely matter-of-fact. Indeed, as he peers into the gloom of the pit at the thylacine, a shadow - of pity, perhaps? - flashes across his features for but a moment, before it passes.
