Also, remember that Hakon’s card-swapping power means he WANTS those spells in his discards (like the Lems of old). Want to cure every turn? As long as has draws any spell, he can get the Cure back. Want to scout more? Grab that Detect Evil back into your hand. You’re trading the extra “HP” of recharging for the utility of having the right spell available for the situation (once you’ve played it at least one time).

I had an interesting setup that made this a cakewalk. Channa Ti was in the party, with the Corrosive Dagger +1. Since she recycles animal allies to explore, she was able to explore repeatedly each turn. And since the Alchemical Golem is immune to poison but not acid, she could recycle the Dagger for the acid trait, then use her power to discard a card to get another d8 against it. The other two characters (Drelm and Ahmotep) basically spent the mission feeding her blessings for close checks while she ripped through every location deck one-by-one.

Got the card right here--the MM version reads (at least in my set), "If proficient with weapons, you may add 10 to your result." So, not a d10, but an optional flat 10. So it's a different gamble on that--the possibility of auto-fail vs. the likelyihood of over shooting the target-which can have consequences in MM.

I always imagined Agna's animal attack was something more along these lines.

Is there still an open issue of if/how locations can be permanently closed in this scenario? I know the question of where the animal goes is still being looked into, but Mike and Vic's responses in a few threads aren't clear on whether the closing question is being debated here, or whether it's just RAW (i.e., no way to perm close other than defeat the villain.

I'm planning on getting started this weekend, and as Toll of the Bell was the scenario that nearly caused my group to give up PACG entirely (we tried it six times with no successes, then house ruled to skip it to avoid a full-on rage quit of the game), I'm hoping Wrath isn't going for that "luck of the shuffle" based victory condition right out of the gate.

I'm picking up my copy today, so we'll see soon how my group feels about the difficulty curve. That said, since RotR, we've always had a latent expectation that if we play well, we should be able to win a scenario first play. Of course, it doesn't always work out that way, but most of the choices we make are based on that assumption-we should be able to win. It seems like that expectation may be what needs to change in WotR; maybe we should be playing to survive first, and to succeed second. Of course, whether players like that or not is a whole other matter.

I can already anticipate declaring "oh cursed monkey's paw!" whenever that hail-mary shot using it fails to pan out. Possibly also with a complaint about the turkey being a little dry.

Heck I might lecture the d20s before rolling about how I don't want any zombie turkey and the rest.

Best comment ever.

Possible additional power: "Banish this card to automatically acquire the Loot Weapon 'Board with a Nail In It'"?
