I'd love to try a one-man hunting party, specializing in supporting his allies with his personal troops.

I'm thinking Summoner (Spirit Summoner)/Hunter. This way I remove the Summon Monster ability to lessen monster overload. Already with two allies, I feel it might be a burden.

However, I do want to make this character a team player above all else. His eidolon/companion will support allies by flanking and harrying foes to keep them distracted.

Meanwhile, Connor can use his Summoner spells to enhance and defend.

I'll work on the character sheet as soon as I can.

Connor's itching to either try Alchemist, not sure on archetype yet.

Same, I'd love to get some jungle exploration in, just need some more details.

As the posts for this campaign seem to have died down and with the recent wave of both player drop-outs and the end of summer fast approaching I am sad to have to inform you that this campaign will have to come to an end. However, as mentioned in my other dropped campaign, I regularly restart new campaigns and anyone wishing to fill up their PbP schedule can keep an eye on the Recruitment page for my two future campaigns.

I apologize to those who were frequent posters and if you see my campaign posted, mention who you were n my other campaign and I'll see to it that you get a place if possible.

The seas around you are unknown to your trained eyes.

The waves crash against the ship, beating like the heart of some deep ocean leviathan.

Nevertheless, the skies are clear and the tiniest glimpse of land can be seen far off in the distance.

No smoke rises from the spit of earth, and no sounds can be heard.

I just got a snip of internet. Be back home tomorrow gang! Hang in there, the voyage has only just begun!

I will be going into the woods for a week or so on a camping trip. This means that I highly doubt I will have access to internet.

I apologize for this delay in everyone's gaming schedules and I hope to be back before you know it!

P.S. If bears devour me, give a short prayer to Cayden Cailean for me eh?

Just waiting on everyone else, to see how they react and what course of actions will be taken. We'll most likely be switching to posting 1 per 2 days thanks to my job... teaching kids 8-12 how to play D&D!

Winds often bear the faint hint of adventure, born aloft by the breeze and carried throughout the world.

The very wind that now drives the sails of your proud vessel forward towards the mists leading off into the unknown.

As the morning sun soon rises into a noontime position, the world seems to stand still, except for the Mistwall coming ever closer.

Sailors pray on their knees and soon, your ship passes through the mist...

You emerge on the other side of the mists...

Yet, the sun hangs low in the sky, almost sunset. The ocean behind you, showing no trace of mists, and no recognizable features, islands or shapes to be seen.

A gull sporting black plumage drifts overhead, swooping lazily around the ship.

All eyes turn to the Officers (you), awaiting a sign, an answer, a reassurance.

The next morning "Captain, Mr Swurn did not return to the ship this morning. Ox Balgeson reported seeing him board another ship and all his personal stuff is gone." Gm if you are unhappy with this I'll retcon it but thought it wasn't unlikely given the situation.

Actually, this is the sort of thing I love.

Has everyone posted everything?

In fact, let's have everyone post a "Aye Aye Captain" and then we're off.

I'm sorry to hear that but I understand how overload gets. I myself am GMing 3 and playing in 1. Good luck mate.

So, we are ready to begin preparations to sail away to the Uncharted Edge. Everyone should write out their Last Will as well as the supplies they are purchasing. Is there someone who would like to be in charge of tracking the player's material list as well? Once this is done, we set sail.

I'd permit a simple change like that if someone wants to make such a switch. Please post the change for me to check and then I can give you the ok.

Important
I'm now capable of accessing the Advanced Race Guide thanks to our local gaming store, so you may use archetypes/options from this book. As well, I will most likely continue to use Skull & Shackles utilities as they are released, including Tempest Rising's new Storm subsystem.

No worries, guys. In fact, take a day or two to RP some fun character interactions in town. Last Point is a pirate shanty rife with plenty of opportunities. Feel free to improvise. If you need/want ideas, let me know.

As well, as soon as we reach the Uncharted Edge we'll be knee deep in everything from brackish swamps and ancient ruins to savage jungles and cursed shipwrecks. Much less on the ship itself.

Yes, Miss Lucille has left us. I shall NOT be replacing posts at any time. If ever we find we do not have enough players the campaign will simply end there. Hoping that does NOT happen though.

No problem guys. Also, Miss Lucille will unfortunately have to drop out as well.

I'll waive these fees. Small things like that are on the house (or ship as it is)

Last Point in sight!

You slowly come to see Last Point in plain sight. The battered Lighthouse standing proudly as the bright sunlight and the swooping seagulls guides you into the harbor.

Connor Whalend comes out from belowdecks.

"Well, it seems we are nearing the edge of the world my friends. I suggest you each take a good long last breath here, leave behind your parting words and shop for anything you need before we dissapear off into the uncharted oceans."

Last Point has a purchase limit of 2000

Very well played Captain One-Eye. I'll give you the rest of the day to RP some posts at your discretion and then update the arrival at Last Point. Unknown waters will soon be upon us.

Cutting in here, but love the hold portal idea. Glad you thought of it because it will indeed work... and my god, if you can time it just right, say as a readied action when the sailor is about to light the fuse, the damage it can cause.

Day 7
1 Day until Last Point (0 Days behind Schedule)
394 food left
Weather: Clear skies and a fine breeze
Events: After the start of what might have turned into a perilous encounter, you begin to near the shores of Last Point, the final island before entering the unknown waters of the Uncharted Edge. It is customary for all sailors and visitors to the Uncharted Edge to write their final wills on a piece of parchment and leave them at Last Point, as a sort of superstitious good luck charm.

Perception DC 20:
A lone albatross circles far overhead.

And I'm back after losing my laptop for 3 days... not the right timing either. I'd ask everyone to give me until tomorrow to post as I have a lot of catching up on work to do... I apologize ahead of time for the delay.

To clarify an earlier question, the chase and evasion took the better part of the day.

Aid Another: Just as with other skills, a character can
spend a standard action to use the aid another action.
This represents an extra pair of eyes observing the enemy,
giving orders to the crew, or simply helpful advice. The
helping character makes a sailing check as well. If the
result is 10 or higher, the pilot gains a +2 bonus on her
sailing check. Only one character can use the aid another
action to help a pilot on a single sailing check.

With superior sailing skills and the help of everyone, the RSS Paradiso deftly catches the wind and speeds up, leaving the other ship far behind and out of sight.

All the rules are from the Skull & Shackles Player's Guide

Sails on the Horizon

Evasion and Pursuit:

Evasion and Pursuit
On the wide, open sea, one ship can spot another from
miles away, making it virtually impossible to surprise
another ship. If both ships want to engage in combat,
the ships close with one another and begin ship-to-ship
combat normally. If one ship wants to avoid combat,
however, a chase ensues. At the GM’s discretion, a faster
ship can always catch a slower ship, but even slow ships
can take advantage of favorable winds, currents, or coastal
terrain to make good their escape.
When two ships first encounter one another, the
pilots of the two ships must make three opposed sailing
checks. Whichever pilot wins at least two out of three of
the opposed checks is victorious. If the pursuing ship
wins, it catches up to the f leeing ship and ship-to-ship
combat begins. If the f leeing ship wins, it escapes. If the
result is a tie, the pilots should begin a new series of three
opposed checks.

Will either Mr. Kerbouchard or Captain Grasskator please make three Profession (sailor) checks.

Ship on the Horizon's Sailing Checks:

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

As well, this is just a general warning I'm making in all my PbP. My schedule is going to be wonky for the next week or so as I'm staying with my dad. Don't be afraid if I miss a day or two. I'll let you all know when I'm back at home. Cheers.

I'll still wait on the rest of the crew, this is a rather important event.

Day 6, Evening

Perception 25 (Lucille gets +2 for being in the crow's nest:
As the day begins to come to a close, the sight of what might be sails at your back is sighted. Still a ways behind you, the ship looks to be attempting to catch up to you.

"That was an amazing story my friend. I'd also appreciate hearing more of your tales if ever you have the time. And who knows, the Uncharted Edge may hold the makings of future ones too eh?"

No potions were used. I ruled that your methods negated the use and therefore, you still have them.

Day 6
3 Days until Last Point (1 day behind schedule)
418 food left
Weather: Good winds and slight cloud cover
Events: After the harsh sunlight from the previous day, everyone is thankful for the breeze and cloud cover. Thanks to your actions, no one has been seriously burned or exhausted. With the fair winds going, good time is being made.

Mathurin:
If you beat DC 25 on Profession (sailor) you can regain your lost day.

I'll update the next day (it's rather special) tomorrow evening, but your combined efforts have made it that you do NOT require the expenditure of potions of endure elements this day. (Keep those, seriously) The crew manages to deal with the day in perfect conditions thanks to everyone's work so no one takes nonlethal damage.

We'll wait to see what else comes up with and the leading idea will get it. But man, that'd be hilarious.

Day 5
4 Days until Last Point (1 day behind schedule)
432 food left
Weather: Good winds, tough sunlight
Events: The sun shines brilliantly upon the ship. Everyone's in pain as the sweltering heat. It's definitely exhausting work and unless something can be done, there's going to be a lot of deadbeats the next few days.

I leave it to you to figure out how to solve this problem of heat and exhaustion. If I deem your plan sufficient there will be no penalties.

@Gjurn, only taking 10 pretty please.

Day 4
5 Days until Last Point (1 day behind schedule)
456 food left
Weather: Good winds, clouds
Events: Having skirted the brewing storm, the RSS Paradiso continues towards Last Point at fair speed. The crew's morale is still high with talks of treasure taking hold all over the ship. You pass another ship in the distance but it remains too far to be hailed.

Delmar Only:
During your sleep between Days 3 and 4, you fall into a deep and vivid dream. You find yourself on a spit of rock surrounded by ocean, the gale winds buffeting your body. Salty sea water washes onto the spit of rock making standing a veritable challenge. There before you, you see a dark shape looming in the water, sharklike in appearance. A voice whispers in your head the same phrase over and over again: "Deep does he wait." You wake up, the whispers still ringing in your ears.

Time: Day 4

Rodrigo will go about his duties, helping out around the ship as needed. He continues to take copious notes and make sketches of various things around the ship.

Jumped the gun but I'll post Day 4 later on

Fine sailing Mr. Kerbouchard. The distance will cost you a bit of time, added with the fishing you'll lose a day. Meaning the next day will still be 5 days left. Though, an extra day is worth not encountering that storm.

Delmar de Arcadia wrote:

Mata get the crew started with preparing for a potential storm then using his telescope check the storm isn't going to be anything too serious (Note: I can see through fog and mist with "water sight" revelation I assume logically that would extend to clouds and probably rain)

Calling up to the crows nest "Ms Bluth, take a look those clouds what type of creature is in them?"

Delmar:
You can only tell that is seems to be dragonesque in nature.

Summary of Day 2
- The fishing goes well and 48 pounds of fish are caught, smoked and stored in the hold.

- Everyone (I assume) passes their checkup with the ship's doctor.

- The RSS Paradiso is still on track.

Day 3
5 Days until Last Point
480 food left
Weather: Good winds, clouds
Events: The third day aboard the ship brings you all into the proximity of the clouds at the horizon which caught up to you as you slowed down to fish. Light rain begins drizzling in the evening, clearing the deck of dirt.

Perception DC 20:
Off in the distance you see a dark shape winging its way through the clouds.

I assumed that the fishing was performed. I've added 48 points of food to the total. I'll update Day 3 later on tonight.

DM Matt!? Egats, I didn't know this was your game!

Didn't you check my alias? I believe I even mentioned I had multiple games running.

I mean, I checked everyone's alias when they applied in the first place.

I apologize for the surprise!

By the way, beautiful method of creaming the crew's pants.

I will be away attending a ceremony and concert. I'll be back tomorrow around noon.

GJurn "SALTY" Swurn wrote:
ok. i was just looking for a point of reference from where the ship was leaving and what not.

In all honesty, where we came from is just flavor. Where we are going... now that's a different matter.

Summary of Day 1
- Lucille, you met with the lovely and charming Miata Pae. She is of fair height, light brown hair that falls to her neck, golden earrings in classic Malaina fashion, tight fitting clothes to easily climb the riggings. She seems amiable enough and you both have a good long chat.

- Mathurin, you manage to keep the ship and a true heading and yes, you can always call out to a swab to hold the wheel for a fair bit while you need to spend time alone.

- To all who hadn't noticed, your cook is a goblin named Pickles. He appreciates all comments about his food.

Day 2
6 Days until Last Point
456 food left
Weather: Good winds and sunlight
Events: With a day behind them, the coastline is just out of sight. The sea and weather remain fair. Some clouds can be seen further on the horizon towards open water but nothing serious. A shout comes up from the men around noon as they spy a great shoal of fish just under the ship and ask permission from the Captain to fish them up. If you do, this will increase the food stores by 48 points but you'll lose some time.

Out of character, I just like answering questions in character if the NPC would. Sorry to confuse you.

Be careful with how you write out your actions, don't assume NPC reactions. These are highly trained sailors aboard. Don't want to get them thinking you know better than they do. xD

Part I: The Last Known Heading
And we're off my shipmates!

As the last of the supplies are boarded upon the RSS Paradiso and stored in their various storage rooms and in the hold, the crew is gathered up from wherever they had spent their time in Saltport.

"Come on lads, the Captain will be waiting!" Connor shouts out to everyone.

As the crew begins readying the ship for departure, Connor takes all of you aside into his personal cabin.

"I'm glad I managed to find such a fine crew. You all seem like the most capable men I could have aboard and I'd not have it any other way. I hope each one of you is alright with his or her position aboard the ship. Remember though, everyone is equal aboard the ship and I highly suggest that the Captain pay attention the rest of the crew's opinions."

Now, as to our destination. We are going to start by making a heading directly west to Last Point, a penal island at the each of the known waters. We'll be able to restock on the food we used as well as any other minor items we need to purchase. Now, the journey shouldn't be too difficult but we need to be at the ready in case of pirate attacks or storms and the like."

"From there, we sail directly into the Mistwall and then... well, who knows. No one has ever returned. So, I suggest everyone find his or her place aboard the ship and we will be underway!"

As for how this will work, every day we will advance by a day of sailing. Each day, simply write what you will be doing and then you may RP with the rest of the expedition. Encounters will be written when they occur. You are free to RP with NPCs as well. Below is the example we start with.

Day 1
7 Days until Last Point
Weather: Good winds and sunlight
Events: The RSS Paradiso sets off from Saltport and makes its heading away from the coast. The sea is calm and the wind strong, so the ship makes good time.
