Kiergard was born in Castle Urion, the only son of an Ulfen raider turned an Iomedean knight. From an early age his father groomed him to follow in his footsteps and become an Iomedean knight. Kiergard excelled in his physical training showing remarkable skill in combatr. However, as talented as he was, the young Kiergard lacked the patience and idealism that marked many of the knights in Iomedea`s service. Instead the youthful Kiergard was brash and emotional, prone to lashing out at those around him when things did not go his way.
Any hope his father may have had of Kiergard becoming a knight was lost when the brash youth was found to have bedded the daughter of the city's Black Sovereign representative. Though the Iomedean forces held sway over the town, the slight against the Black Sovereign's representative could not go unpunished and the evil bureaucrat called for Kiergard`s immediate execution. It was only through a series of remarkably lucky events that Kiergard was able to save himself and flee the city.
Kiergard was pursued out of the city by mercenaries hired by the offended politician. He fled westward into Ustalav where by another coincidence stumbled upon a noble from Carrion Hill named Heggry who was beset by highway brigands. Kiergard helped to defeat the villains and save the noble from a terrible fate. Kiergard`s bravery was soon repaid as the noble agreed to hide the youth in Carrion Hill. After a number of weeks the mercenaries gave up searching for Kiergard returned to Numeria empty handed. It was during those few weeks in hiding that Kiergard and Heggry became friends. The sudden upheaval in Kiergard's life ignited a wanderlust within the young warrior that he had suppressed during his years in Numeria. Kiergard bid goodbye to the future mayor of Carrion Hill and headed northward to seek his destiny.
His original plans were to head north to Mendev and join the crusades against the evil of the Worldwound, something his father had spoke of many times. Though he headed northward with that intent, his feet followed a different path and the young warrior soon found himself in the demon infested trees of Shudderwood. Again luck changed Kiergard's fate as he stumbled across the Elkrun tribe from the Realm of the Mammoth Lords who were locked in a pitched battle with demonic fiends. Kiergard rushed to join the fight and was filled with an unexpected burst of divine energy. His attacks struck the demons with a burst of light and he shield his new allies from the worst of the demon's attacks. It was then that Kiergard finally understood that Desna had been guiding his steps and he fully embraced her with all his heart, and in so doing, helped to defeat the demonic attack.
After the battle, the Elkrun tribe embraced Kiergard as one of their own. Kiergard gladly joined them and spent the next few years crossing the wilds of the north and helping the tribe as best he could. In that time Kiergard matured, learning to manage his emotional impulses and control the desire to lash out at others.
After a time a desire for change grew within him. Though he loved his adopted tribe he felt Desna's influence and the need to follow a new path. Eventually and with much difficulty he said goodbye to his adopted tribe. Though he had no destination in mind, he found himself returning to Carrion Hill and seeking out Heggry who he had befriended many years before. Heggry was now mayor of the city and was quite happy to see the return of his friend. Kiergard's timing was again lucky as he has arrived just in time to join in the celebration of Mayor Heggry's birthday.
Though Kiergard is pleased to return for this happy occasion, he wonders if Desna hasn't brought him back to this place for another purpose.
