Once he's found someone, he shows his medallion, indicating he is a servitor of the church. "Greetings, I am new come to Reme, and I am seeking a place to do devotions, as well as a place to stay and work."

Note, Shi'Vatha has a trait that lets him ask one favor or item per day from a church as long as it's less than 50 gp, room and board are far less than that, so they should be able to put us up somewhere, even if it's in an inn friendly to the church.

You see a priest walking towards you, wearing the vestments of an acolyte. He hears you speak and seems perplexed that the animal is speaking to him, although not as badly as one might expect. He responds to you in slightly accented Common; "You may certainly complete your devotions here, fellow clergy. However, as you can see, we do not have room for additional followers. I do, however, have a solution to your other query. There is an inn nearby, the Wyld Stallion, that allows our guests to stay there. The first night, the temple can pay for; however, we cannot afford to pay beyond that mark. I can create a writ that you can present to the innkeeper, his name is Niles, just Niles, to let you stay."

The acolyte wanders off before you can say another word, likely back to his chambers. Within a few moments he is back. He does not interrupt your prayers. When you are done, he hands over a scroll and says, "Here you are, that will take care of both of you. I also happen to know that there is a wizard there who is looking for people to escort him over to Fairhill, about a week's walk from here. He is also currently at the inn, if you wish to inquire."

The symbol indicates Nergal, an ancient and, nowadays, rather obscure god whose portfolio included death and taxes. He represents the inevitability of all things.


After dealing with the Usurer, you feel as if you may have hit a roadblock with the denizens of the Camp. In small towns, word gets around very quickly. Looking around, you can find the temple that is part and parcel of such a town. The building itself is made of two towers, each about forty feet high, with a structure connecting the twin towers. The entire building is made of mud brick, soiled to a charcoal grey, and the roof is covered in tarps with a very thin layer of thatch. There is a marking on the door; painted red, it is a symbol of a large skull and scythe under a setting sun. The door is unlocked.

Going in, you see that there are pews enough to seat maybe 30, with an alter and raised floor in front of it. In all, the hall is about 40' by 30' by 40' tall (the hall is bounded on the sides, in part, by the interior of each tower). Along the sides of the hall are cots, where you see a couple of sick people resting. There is a man on one side and a woman on the other, both human, attending to the sick.

The male notices you first and leaves his patient. He is obviously quite young, but hearty, and looks like the type that rarely needs a cure for some malady. He approaches the party and says "Greetings to those of you not yet enjoying everlasting death. How may this humble acolyte serve you to your final eternity?"
