I will create a different alias if accepted.

I'll be going: Ranger (Wild Hunter, Shape Shifter) / Sorcerer (Crossblooded, Wildblooded)

This will be a melee focused and should we go past 5th level... Dragon Diciple. Therefore a lot of dragon flavor will go into the fluff.

I'll post a full background/story later but for now here's the crunch

looking at the other characters, I felt Charles is a bit redundant. Melee and bard (buff) are covered. I'll throw together a different alias and post (tomorrow probably).

I'm leaning towards an Archer. I've pretty flexible though, so if any of the other have any specific role concerns with the party, speak up.

Of the cuff, expect a human fighter/arcanist with the fighter side being Archery focused. Maybe venturing into Arcane Archer eventually.

Liberty's Edge

There are of course no words to convey, but for what it's worth... I've very sorry for your loss and my sympathies go out to your family.

I can't imagine anyone holding a grudge, under the circumstances, over the absence.

at any rate... still here, and still excited to try and win a spot at the table.

Liberty's Edge

I didn't realize focus/foible was an option:

stat 1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
stat 1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
stat 1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
stat 1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

18, 17, 14, 14, 11, 8

Liberty's Edge

If you get a chance to look it over, great. Not much to review with it, it's pretty simple (only a few non-complicated class features), but I can always use Brawler: Shield champion instead and get fairly close to the same concept.

Thank you for your flexibility on the roll and (possibly) a class... in the interest of character development!

lol, I'm in the same boat as oyzar. I'm rocking an 8 point buy here. If allowed I also would like call a "misroll".

stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 3) = 12

18, 15, 11, 10, 12, 11

Equates to a 28 point buy. Let me know if you will allow this "reroll" or in you want me to go with the 20pt build.

Also... I was a fan of D&d 4e warlord. Would you allow a 3pp? here is the link for it on d20: Warlord

My concept will be an inspiring melee "captain".

He will combine warlord (if approved) and bard. Wielding a shield (shield bash build) in one hand and a flag/banner (flagbearer feat) in the other. He will lead from the frontline, empowering his allies.

@Charlie - my curiosity has gotten the better of me. What's with the "yes" after every statement? Is this supposed to reflect an alien dialect? Some sort of robotic tendency? Is it simply how you talk? Is there a "fluff" reason for it?

It's interesting and I like it, just curious

Shield chuckles a little, "I apologize. Force of habit I suppose. Being the ranking officer in a military unit, I'm used to having less experienced soldiers under my command. A normal practice with military units, to ensure preparedness for a mission, as many times there is a lapse in time between when the mission is planned and when we actually arrived at the destination where we were going to be operating. You never know when equipment might be lost, or rendered unserviceable. Therefore, the last thing done before embarking towards a possible hostile environment, or when there may be an extended period before some downtime to conduct maintenance on gear, is to have everyone re-check their stuff to ensure all is still in proper working order." Shield stops for a moment and reflect on memories of operations where the smallest detail been overlooked and ALMOST jeopardized the success of the objective. "You would be surprised how often, after a continuous routine, the littlest thing can make a huge impact."

Possibly allow Reya here more access to assist us. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but my equipment has not let me down so far, so I would prefer the subroutines for now. It seems like those would take priority right now. I'm sure once that is done, we could move on the equipment upgrades after. Shield looks around to the rest of the party, "What do y'all think?"

Ordinarily, it wouldn't work because a rope is more than five pounds, but in an area of zero gravity, that's not a problem. It specifically says "an object weighing up to five pounds." The rope does not weigh five pounds, because it does not weigh anything at all.

Sorry, I thought I had pointed this out with my previous post. The problem (in my understanding) is not whether you can MOVE the 5 lb rope. The problem comes when you try to tie a knot in it. I'm not a scientist, but I would guess it takes more force than mage hand provides to tighten the knot enough to prevent it from coming undone. Or it may be that a 0-level spell doesn't provide enough magic to have the dexterity tie a knot remotely, thus the 1st level rope trick spell.

in either case, I'm going to cut this debate off here. I think a it would be served better with a broader number of people in either a advice and/or rules thread. Especially since, the decision is up to the GM, not me.

I personally like the idea of simply using mage hand to "push" the object to us.

Liberty's Edge

male Human Brawler (Shield Champion)/1: HP (13/13): AC (20/touch=13/flat=17): Saves (Fort=4/Ref=5/Will=0): Initiative +3: Perception 3: Sense Motive 3

again, it's going to be up to the discretion of the GM, but...

moving the rope with mage hand would be fine (as long as it's at least silk rope... 5'), but having it coil, tie itself, or somehow attack to the object would fall under animate rope.

rope trick:
Animate Rope
School transmutation; Level bard 1, sorcerer/wizard 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target one rope-like object, length up to 50 ft. + 5 ft./level; see text
Duration 1 round/level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no

You can animate a nonliving rope-like object. The maximum length assumes a rope with a 1-inch diameter. Reduce the maximum length by 50% for every additional inch of thickness, and increase it by 50% for each reduction of the rope's diameter by half.

The possible commands are “coil” (form a neat, coiled stack), “coil and knot,” “loop,” “loop and knot,” “tie and knot,” and the opposites of all of the above (“uncoil,” and so forth). You can give one command each round as a move action, as if directing an active spell.

The rope can enwrap only a creature or an object within 1 foot of it—it does not snake outward—so it must be thrown near the intended target. Doing so requires a successful ranged touch attack roll (range increment 10 feet). A typical 1-inch-diameter hemp rope has 2 hit points, AC 10, and requires a DC 23 Strength check to burst it. The rope does not deal damage, but it can be used as a trip line or to cause a single opponent that fails a Reflex saving throw to become entangled. A creature capable of spellcasting that is bound by this spell must make a concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level to cast a spell. An entangled creature can slip free with a DC 20 Escape Artist check.

The rope itself and any knots tied in it are not magical.

The spell cannot affect objects carried or worn by a creature.

I also thought mage hand would work until a DM called me out on it, citing the same explanation.

I don't mean to shut down your ingenuity. Just thought for your own knowledge that by the game rules, specifically what you're trying to do, does not work.

I still defer to GM judgment on whether he will/will not allow it.

of course it's at the discretion of the GM, but you can't use mage hand to duplicate the effects of another spell. (i.e. rope trick, animate rope... these are spells for that specific purpose)

Looking back up at the group and letting go of the grip on his rope, "So apparently we'll be using the magic/mana whatever thing. I like the initiative folks, but in looking around it would appear Tanque here and I could have contributed to the 'sacrifice' with little loss." With an optimistic gleam in his eye, "We'll see if both of your 'sacrifices' pays off. Leaving the 2 physically oriented combatants in full readiness. I believe that will leave Tanque and I qued up to provide for the next runes... should there be more that need to be activated."

Pondering to himself, "Wow, those 2 stepped up and put the team ahead of themselves immediately! And for a bunch of strangers even. Very selfless. I might have to use this scenario as a training aid for my next new recruits to the unit."

If I'm reading it right, we had 4 runes to activate. Conall AND Charlie both activated 2 each. That's the 4 needed to operate the lift right?

"The same items I had on me when you kidnapped me here would be the least you could provide for this." "Shield" runs a checklist through his mind, "Basic military uniform, web belt with pouches, bandolier harness, canteen (waterskin), first aid kit, survival knife (dagger)reinforced leather body armor (lamellar leather armor), heavy metal round shield." "I believe that was all of it. Would it be too much to ask for an AK-47? Possibly a Humvee with a .50 cal? No? Tank?" "Shield" thinks sarcastically, "Some ALL powerful entity this is. Pffft. I lead a special operations tactical unit. I received some 'augmentation' that amped my strength, speed, reactions, ect. It's even been the reason I can still say no soldier has died under my command. I DON'T intend to break that record with any of you, got it!?" Shield relaxes a bit, and scans the new "unit" assembled in front of him. "If y'all would be so kind, feel free to speak up. Lying rigid on his back, as if on an operating table, Charles sense hone as if waking from a dream. His eyes pop open and instantly upon seeing unfamiliar surroundings, he flips his feet over his head and rolls backward. Ending in a crouching defensive position, fists clenched and ready to strike, he assesses the room while the thick dust settles. "Who are you? Where am I?"

Concluding there is no immediate threat, he stands. Seeing the others in the room walk through the door, he cautiously follows. Checking behind him every few steps, as if expecting an ambush at any time, he passes into the next room.

are we all in the same room? or each have a solitary room and they all lead into a "common" area with the white marble platform? Just curious we see each other immediately or as we all enter the "common" room.

cartomancer basically removes the mechanic of a familiar.

With 3 martial characters (rogue, fighter, ranger), thought a spellcaster (no offense ranger) would make a good addition to the party. This witch is a de-buffer, allowing the rest of the party to do their jobs more easily.

I originally created him as a tiefling (fits flavor of witch), but can easily change to either an elf or human if you want to stick with only core races (as state in creation guidelines). I currently have him at lvl 1, but bumping up to lvl 3 can be done quickly if accepted.

When are you planning on selecting/starting?

Thank you for your consideration.

Liberty's Edge

. In the small farming town of Trunau, we find a small ragged tent near the city's farmers market. Outside the tent is a crude sign labeled "Fortune Telling". Inside sits a tiefling named Akvius Syrthos. He passes time between the few patrons that seek his insight, by shuffling a Harrow Deck and occasionally flipping a few over on yop of the barrel in front of him concealed with tablecloth decorated in moons, suns, stars and the like. Obviously an attempt to add credibility to the promised services.

. As he turns over the 1st card, an energy showers over him. More so than the occasional "vision" he receives from the mysterious patron that, depending on your perception, either curses or blesses Akvius with his abilities. It signifies a king! As soon he sees the card a picture forms in his head. It's that of the Storm Tyrant. The 2nd comes with a higher intensity of energy. It signifies an army. A different sight comes to focus in his mind. It's a vast collection of warpainted Orcs. Akvius flips card after card over, and each continues to provide increased intensity. A cloud castle. Several powerful giants. A mystical orb. Each card he turns shocks him with a higher intensity of power, followed by a single "photograph" imprinted in his head. He flips each card over faster than the previous. Finally he grabs one last card and as he goes to flip it over, he's struck with such a powerful blast of energy that he is propelled off the small wooden milking stool he was sitting on... unconscious to the ground. When he wakes up, he struggles to grab the barrel and pull his head high enough to see a single card sitting in the center of the table. The card of DEATH!

. Knowing this prophecy must not be allowed to manifest, Akvius begins a journey to find the right group of "heroes", with the skills to thwart this future from happening. Willing to lend his gifts of magic, intellect, languages, and social skills... he only hopes whatever being controls this world will grant him the opportunity to help mold an alternate reality than the horror he has predicted.

Tiefling Witch (Cartomancer). It seems you could benefit from a support role. He is a de-buff focus, but will also be able to buff and can easily fill in as a skill monkey.

race/class:
I know you asked for "core" and standard races. I hope this provides enough to validate a Tiefling, de-buff witch. I know it's more of an "event" than a complete backstory, so I can certainly add more about the character if requested.

The race is easy to change if needed (to either elf or human), tiefling just seem to be perfect for the stigma and mystery of a witch and tarot card reader to fit the archetype (Cartomancer). I've only recently tried out the witch class and really enjoy the "make the rest of the party look good" aspect of the buff/de-buff classes. If I can help the fighter make that exciting final blow that brings down the enemy; or, make it possible for the magic user to have that "cool" spell... not to be lost to an unexpected saving throw, then I have made a valuable contribution to the party AND the player

backstory:
Having miscalculated the cost of living and travel expenses, Akvius ran out of resources shortly after arriving in Trunau. While the town is very accepting of outsiders, not generally giving in to stereotypes or concern about life prior to arriving, currency is a constant in every town. Akvius was entralled with the acceptance of the town. Acceptance that is, as long as each person is willing to contribute to the town's defense.

Not particularly skilled in combat, he contributes whatever he can when called upon. Akvius sees it as a small price to pay to avoid persecution for one's physical appearance (tiefling). This small "utopia" to discrimination, has come to hold a special place in his heart, and he would like to help preserve this not only for himself but anyone else who may appreciate this town's mentality.

Perhaps fate brought him to this town. While he originally found a small income performing services as a fortune teller to pay his way on to a larger city, every day seems to give him more reason to call this place home permantly.

I have been playing PFS pbp for almost a year. Ever since my IRL group was separated by RL events. I have not had the opportunity to play a non-pfs game yet, and would love the opportunity.

I still find myself checking posts of games I'm in 4-5 times a day (min), anxiously waiting to see a "new post" is available. As such, I may post anytime of the day. I live in Wisconsin (central time zone) if that helps suggest better posting times.

While my character doesn't have a vorpal sword hidden underneath the trap door of his house, I'm pretty sure an ancestor of his from Cheliax mailed him a Deck of Many Things!

Thank you for your consideration.

does that mean recruitment is closed?

If not, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If so, please feel free to PM me if you find yourself needing a replacement, and thank you for your consideration.

Liberty's Edge

Here is my 1st submission. Tiefling (easily changed to elf or human... if needed) Witch (Cartomancer). Looking to be support role. Mainly de-buff enemies. Will be able to take rogue-ish skills as needed, maybe even dip... depends on where the adventure/party takes him.

not currently complete as this character has been submitted for several APs. I will adjust details to fit specific guidelines, if accepted

Here are a few traits you asked for in original post:

Background:
Fortune teller. Makes use of Harrow deck.

Linguist - strives to learn all languages. mostly to gain a deeper trust from customers, and be able to convey his readings with proper emotion and understanding. Also to add an extra personal element to the use of his hexes (against enemies)

Seeking to change the future - his abilities have given him a glimpse of a dark future, he wants to use this knowledge to influence the present... resulting in a change to the future (for the better... in his mind)
