Background
--------------------

The Thimbleweed family of Waterdeep have always been a proud group. Hardworking and shrewd, it is not by mere chance that they grew to dominate the wheat trade in and around the largest city of the Swordcoast. This is the family that Charles Alberto Thimbleweed was born into - albeit into one of the lesser lines. Charles was the youngest of 5 children, and much younger than his next older brother Yan. As a small child his parents drove their children to excel with the aim of climbing the social ladder, not just within Waterdeep but also within the Thimbleweed family. His life changed forever on his 8th birthday. That was the day he woke up, completely unable to hear. His family brought through a long line of healers and clerics and even herb witches but no remedy could be found for the poor child’s hearing. Over time, his deafness came to be viewed by his entire family as a physical weakness and embarrassment. His parents stopped his education and looked for menial jobs in the family business to keep him out of sight and out of trouble.

And so for the next 15 years, Charles’ life settled into a depressing pattern of familial scorn and simple work. Things began to change for him one evening when he was returning home late from one of the family warehouses. Even if he could hear, he would never have sensed the approach of the thief. A blow to the head and a robbery followed. He awoke on his back and as his eyes opened, he saw the stars and could read their intent. He returned home, gathered his belongings and hit the road the very next day. In a sense, he knew his destination, even if he did not know specifically where he was headed. One thing he knew with certainty however was that he was going to grow as a person and do something he was proud of.

He tends to base his decisions on personal values and how his actions affect others. His quest is largely one of faith and as such, he is open to leaving his options open and being spontaneous.
