I've been playing a level 5 Stonelord in my current game, and the Stone Servant has come in handy several times so far. I've used him for scouting several times. He also good for flanking enemies in hard to reach locations. Also, since he gets smite evil he has come in handy a few time already against some evil creatures with DR. I just have to be careful and not leave him next to something that will one-shot him. This is somewhat easier since my GM forgets that my elemental is a potential target about half the time. Chall T. Does the earth elemental that the stonelord gets instead of a normal mount count as an animal companion and use that progression or does it just uses the stats of the base elemental? I ask because while it replaces divine bond, it doesn't specifically say that the elemental is a companion. Stone Servant (Su): At 5th level, a stonelord may call a Small earth elemental to her side, as a paladin calls her mount. This earth elemental is Lawful Good in alignment and possesses the celestial template, and it increases in size as the stonelord gains levels, becoming Medium at 8th level, Large at 11th level, Huge at 14th level, Greater at 17th level, and Elder at 20th level. This ability replaces divine bond.

I apologize if this has already been discused, I couldn't find it when searching. I was looking at making a wordcasting magus, but I've run into a slight problem. Does the magus know any 0-level words at the start? The section from the normal magus spells reads:
Spells:
Spellbooks: A magus must study his spellbook each day to prepare his spells. He cannot prepare any spell not recorded in his spellbook except for read magic, which all magi can prepare from memory. A magus begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level magus spells plus three 1st-level magus spells of his choice. The magus also selects a number of additional 1st-level magus spells equal to his Intelligence modifier to add to his spellbook. At each new magus level, he gains two new magus spells of any spell level or levels that he can cast (based on his new magus level) for his spellbook. At any time, a magus can also add spells found in other spellbooks to his own (see Arcane Spells). So they start with all 0-level spells on their list. The word casting magus however reads:
Words:
Magi, Witches, and Wizards: Witches and wizards begin play knowing all 0-level effect and meta words for their respective classes and a number of 1st-level effect or meta words equal to 3 + the witch's or wizard's Intelligence modifier. Magi begin play with a number of 1st-level effect or meta words in their spellbooks equal to 2 + their Intelligence modifier. Whenever witches, wizards, or magi gain another level in their respective classes, they add 2 additional words to their spellbook or familiar, of any level they can cast. They can add new effect or meta words to their spellbooks or familiars for the same time and cost as it would take to add a spell of the same level. So they don't start with any 0-lvl words, even though they have them on their class list. The problem I see is that every other class that learns all of their 0-lvl spells also learns all of their 0-lvl words. Is this an oversight and magi are supposed to have 0-lvl words, or do you have to take the extra word feat to get them? |
