Seeing how it means so much to Gared, though he himself doesn't quite understand why, Carridan yields to the dwarf's instruction and takes a spear. He raises it off the floor and offers it an appraising look before shifting his glance to Gared. "In case my prayers are exhausted, I'll try to keep my distance." With the spear in hand, he situates himself for sleep and lays the spear down beside his weathered walking stick. "Well, prayers are- well... ah," Carridan tries to contribute to the conversation, but his words trail off into a stammered mumble. His face scrunches up then as he tries to find a way to articulate his thoughts but, in the end, his shoulders sag in defeat. Shaking his head, he conceeds, "Belief in the magic itself or belief in a god behind it, is there much of a difference?"

Carridan glances uncomfortably between his companions as Gared lays out a number of items for them to take in order to 'be prepared'. The druid then looks at the dward helplessly and offers a shrug. "I don't know what good any of these things would be in my hands, Gared. I- I rather think I'm a better help to you all using my spells and tending your wounds." He picks up a net and regards it for a moment before letting it fall back to the ground with a shake of his head. "While I'm sure these are excellent tools for what you suggest, I don't think my using them will really be of much help."

Carridan shrugs, not knowing what to make of Yamyra's conjecture. "I'm pretty sure something or someone was inside that statue though. Like it was a casket or tomb of some kind." He shudders, obviously uncomfortable with the implications that the statue was now empty. "But the shard that's supposedly inside here somewhere, it's similar to the one we found in the... what do you all call it? the Crow?"
retired
Carridan nods slowly at Yamyra's characteristically verbose explanation before his face darkens briefly with worry as Gared and Carmina begin discussing how insidiously effective enchantment magics can be. Tracing idly on the stone floor of the cave beside his seat, Carridan asks further, "But we have no idea what the layout within the Light might look like? No one has mapped the place before?"

Carridan nods to Carmina then also helps set up a simple camp once Yamyra returns with her pony. As the work unfolds in setting everything up, Carridan seems to be slightly more at ease with the group. Moreso even than before their disagreements on the vessel that brought them here. At some point in the evening, the weathered hermit asks of the group, "Do we know what at all to expect within the Light? That empty statue earlier worries me more than a little." Carridan comes over at Carmina's question, drawing his now familiar wand as he approaches. "Nonsense, Gared, this is the very reason I agreed to come with you all. Here, Carmina, let me see." A light glow passes from the wand and suffuses the wound in the tiefling's arm, which then immediately begins to knit. clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Looking distressed as his last attack seemed about as effective as blowing on the lumbering construct, Carridan shakes his head helplessly as the others prove much more effective. You've got me in the initiative order twice, Eric. I'm happy to go twice if that's your intent, though I'm guessing it's just a typo =P Look out! Gared! Carmina! The columns... they're animated!" Carridan blurts a warning to the two of his allies as they stand frightfully close to a gaping pit. As his words echo in the chamber, he spills three large stones from a pouch on his hip and calls upon another portion of Gozreh's power to fortify them. Move action: draw 3 stones

Carridan looks questioningly to Carmina and Gared, then to the others. "Ok then. Hopefully this works." Carridan shudders again then, provided no one objects, begins casting a spell. As he nears the completion of it, thick tendrils of fog snake in from each of the open passages, gathering together in the center of the chamber. In the span of just a few quick breaths, the room is filled with a thick, still fog hiding the solifugids and their larger ilk from sight. The only evidence of their presence is the eerie clicking and chittering sounds which, while slightly muted by the fog, still echo quietly in the tunnel. "Provided no strong blasts of wind come gusting up any of these tunnels, the fog should last at least half an hour." I'll go with fog cloud since I can cast it in the center of the chamber from a safe distance without risk of upsetting the larger solifugids. No vision beyond 5 feet within the cloud, so we'll want to stay close together as we pass through. Anyone in particular care to take point and lead our caravan through the fog? "Big ones?" Carridan looks to where Horven and Gared indicate and another shudder ripples through his frame. "I'd- I'd almost rather there was another hydra to deal with." Taking in a steadying breath, he then offers, "I could call up a mist to cover our passage. We might be able to slip through without them noticing us if we're careful." I have obscuring mist and fog cloud available as domain spells, if we'd care to give either one a try.

"The cave is- is crawling with solifugids. Somewhere in between giant spiders and scorpions, they're normally not a threat and are pretty harmless, but if something were to stir this many up?" An involuntary shudder ripples through Carridan's shoulders and down his back as a look of dismay clouds his worried face.

Carridan fidgets uncomfortably for a bit as the others make ready to enter the gaping cave. As he himself gets to the entrance, he adds, "If, ah- if the thing living in here is an animal I might be able to get us past without risk of harm. So, ah, all I ask is that if it is an animal, like a giant bear, let me try a spell before we start attacking it." He looks to the others hesitantly then glances at the piles of bones littering the mouth of the cave. "I hope it's an animal. I really don't want to meet a dragon today."

Carridan comes back to the group, his shoulders sagging. "There's- there's not much left to make sense of really. I think they fought each other here, but I didn't find any sign of survivors leaving the area. Probably because it's been too long. I'm sure there were survivors though, because who would've cut off the troglodytes heads otherwise, right?"

Carridan's face falls, the druid obviously saddened by the scene of such gratuitous death. "Don't you think the beaten group would be easier to negotiate with? Besides, there was a balance here before this Oriana and her maidens came through. If- ah, if it's possible to restore that balance while trying to get into the Lady's Light... I, er, well I'd like for us to try, at least." Knowledge (nobility): 1d20 ⇒ 11 Carridan shakes his head at the tale, baffled by what lies in store for them what with this Oriana and her band beating them to the site. Once the needed seaweed has been gathered, Carridan bears each of those in the water back to shore before returning to the shallows himself and returning to his normal form. "More undead! Carridan offers a few clicks and trumpets from the water at Gared's words, bouncing his nose in and out of the water. Hey guys, I'll be heading out of town early tomorrow morning for my first Cabin trip of the year. There's no cell service or internet (or anything other than trees, really) up on the mountain, so I won't be able to post until I get back sometime on Sunday. I hope to find you're feeling better long before I get back, Yamyra!

Flex Time:
Carridan shakes his head as he leans wearily into the rail, his eyes still searching for the shape of the waves in the darkness beyond the deck.
