In (H)all honesty, I played that adventure too here on PbP forums.
My character (Paladin lvl 1) was killed by the Wight, as was a 2 level priest too.
As a Paladin of Iomedae, I waited for the wight (put myself in full defense, use of Smite for fighting bonuses) to come to fight, giving my comrades some vials of Holy water..which weren't thrown, as they fought the zombies.

One Crit by the Wight on it's first attack(unconfirmed), and I was dead. Two hits later, the Cleric was dead too.

The adventure is not finished yet, but the rest of the character (4) are all level 1, and some of them nearly died too against other monsters. The shadow was nasty (one lost 7 Str, another 9 Str), the crikets were as bad as they could be.

They had to rest for a few days, and used most of a CLW wand to stay alive.

This adventure could really end into a TPK, and it's really accursed.

this could be a TPK....

Shouldn't the Strenght drain lower the chance to hit and do additionnal damage?
As found in the PRD:

Quote:
Strength: Damage to your Strength score causes you to take penalties on Strength-based skill checks, melee attack rolls, and weapon damage rolls (if they rely on Strength). The penalty also applies to your Combat Maneuver Bonus (if you are Small or larger) and your Combat Maneuver Defense.

I must say I am sorry too, but I understand things don't always go as expected.
And Caemillia had her little heroic moment, fighting an evil undead courageously before dying. A true paladin's death.

Good thing is I had no time to get too fond of the character.
Bad thing is I had no time to get too fond of the character.

i'm sorry, but
1/ the Wight energy drain can be resisted (DC 14 Fortitude save)
2/ With Ford Bit of Luck Domain power, I can throw any d20 roll (as a save) twice

The young woman open her eyes, rubbing the back of her head
Owwww.... I slipped when the Wight hit me, and banged my head on the ground... I think I lost consciousness for a few minutes.... sorry. What a great defender I am!

If possible, Caemillia will walk toward the wight, defying it.

This is the moment of truth. May Sareanae help me to bring you down.

I think I'll keep theses rolls. Can't do much better. My attack roll should be one more, I forgot to count in Ford's Bless bonus

Shall I keep my rolls against the wight when fight will start or should I re roll later?

I have two flasks of holy water, which can be thrown on the Wight when its in range. It's our main adversary, so be sure to aim well. Then I'll engage him in combat, for Iomedae's honor.

Caemillia prepares the holy vials, and gives them to whoever want it,praying to Iomedae before getting inside the room. She salutes fearlessly the wight with her sword, waiting for one of the walking corpse to come closer.

Agaisnt the zombies, Caemillia will stay in full defense, AC 21. Against the wight, she will use her Smite evil ability (gaining a +3 to hit, a +2 dmg on the first attack (+1 on following attacks) and a +3 bonus to her AC (only agaisnt the wight attacks) for the whole fight

longsword vs Wight,Smite: 1d20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 3 = 17
dmg, Smite: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 = 10

Caemillia eyes widen as she finally recognises the demonic figure: Abraxas, the dark "lord" of forbidden knowledge.

Why was a demon lord worshipped here? And by whom? Not by goblins or skeletons, for sure!

She seeks any sign of recent activity around the statue, taking once again time to check the place thoroughly
Taking 20 around the statue to check for recent sign of worship

Caemillia will stays on the look out from any potential foe, feeling uneasy from the unnatural silence

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

She will glance at the ceiling of the room too, in case of aerial attacks, and will switch from her flail to her longsword, taking confort in her favorite weapon, studying the statue lenghtily, trying to remember anything she might have heard in Sarenae's temple about demons, devils and strange creature from other dark places

Sarenae, let me protect my fellow pathfinders this time. And if you could shed some light on who the statue represent, I'd be most grateful too... My brother would mercilessly tease me about my lack of knowledge, and would have found the answer in a few minutes. I hope he's well, and not stuck in another tryst... How I miss him, sometimes!

Can she take 20 on Know Plane?

Know Planes: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Is that one another of your acquaintances, Ford? Could you enlighten a bunch of feeble mortals with your unique insight? I'm pretty sure it's a bad fellow, this one...

Caemillia concentrates and prays to Sarenae
Please, O brave goddess of the golden orb, show me the vile and wicked, wherever they might hunt and hide into the darkness....

Detect Evil

Grand Lodge

Female Human (Varisian) Paladin (1) HP 12/12 AC 17 FF 15 Touch 11 Fort+3 Ref +1 Will+4 Ini +1 Perc+2

Well... I don't meet "gods" everyday. And I assumed that, if I had to meet a god one day, it would probably be Sarenae. It's sometimes easier to doubt than to believe, in matter of faith. I can say you believe in yourself, and that is a good start.

Grand Lodge

Female Human (Varisian) Paladin (1) HP 12/12 AC 17 FF 15 Touch 11 Fort+3 Ref +1 Will+4 Ini +1 Perc+2

Caemillia stands dumbfounded after Ford words, not quite believing what she just heard

I hate those bag of bones...I'm glad I thought to buy a flail too, cause my sword won't be of much help there. Most important is that Iomedae and justice will be served, by sword or by flail!

I guess the arrow should have hit Caemillia, as she can't use her shield or dodge as she climbs the scaffoldings (AC15)

Caemilia grunts, and tries again to climb

I'm SO glad my brother hasn't seen that. I wouldn't hear the end of it.

That fateful night, when you met Venture Captain Drenge, who gave you this mission, you met Caemillia Penn too.
She is a beautiful young woman in armor, with curly black hair and matching black eyes, dressed like a Varisian
She was listening to the words of the captain with intensity, and seemed happy to have to get up in the middle of the night, keeping a bright, warm and youthful smile all the time.
You remember watching a wooden holy symbol dangling from her necklace, depicting a woman with spreaded wings.

She introduced herself as a holy warrior of Sarenae, and if you had listened to her, she would have gone right in the dead of the night to Thornkeep.

Aparctias, if I understand well, the speech was done one month ago.. We're on our way to Thornkeep (or into Thornkeep) already.
