abilities:
Aura of Good (Ex)
The power of a paladin's aura of good (see the detect good spell) is equal to her paladin level.

Detect Evil (Sp)
At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.

Smite Evil (Su)
Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.
In addition, while smite evil is in effect, the paladin gains a deflection bonus equal to her Charisma modifier (if any) to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If the paladin targets a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect.
The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.

Brun is a young man who has been shunned by most of Sandport for his entire life and has yet grown into untested but forthright warrior on verge on manhood. He does not know any of he past and no one in Sandport can tell him either for he was found wash up and near dead on beach 8 years ago. Most of the locals thought him an ill omen because his skin is dark brown, almost to tar and his face covered in angry red tattoos that swirl down from his forehead and around his cheeks.

Brun’s first memories are of headlong and heedless flight from a mob that only ended because Volioker Briskalberd, the local locksmith. This old man saw the dark skinned youth for what he was, a scared child, a stood before the crowd with nothing but his courage. The old dwarf defied the mob and stared them down one by one until they backed down and let him take the Brun home with him.

In a kindly voice Volioker quieted the boy took the scared child back to his home and raised him as his own. That is how he gained his name. Volioker did not know what to call him and the boy did not know his own name so he was called Brown but his accent turned it into Brun. For three years Volioker trained him up as a man of high moral caliber and as a locksmith, but in the latter his efforts were doomed to fail. Though he passed on his love of metal to young Brun his hands were not steady enough for delicate work of locksmithing.

While the child worked long hours with the dwarf, Volioker also demanded that he spend his limited free time with Abstalar Zantus, the local priest. While the boy was not overly bright his inquisitive mind drove him to learn all that he could of the ways of the gods. The priest and the boy became close friends and remain so even to this day despite the fact that his visits would become infrequent after his apprentice to Das Korvut.

When Brun had been with him three years and was old enough for a proper apprenticeship he took the growing boy to see his friend Das Korvut, the town smith. While the man was disagreeable and the dogs did not take to him the work was something he fell in love with. While the delicate work of locksmithing might have been an ill fit, the shaping and hammering of metal suited the fast growing youth quite well. While there were other apprentices Brun was the only one who could work as long and as hard as his master.

Das never truly warmed to the Brun, but then he never warmed to any one else either and he did admire his work ethic and growing skill with hammer. Years passed as the youth learned his trade and the time for his masterwork came and yet he knew that he could never be a blacksmith. He yearned for adventure and seeing the weapons and armor that he forged get used by others grated on him. When the time came craft his masterwork he forged full set of arms and armor but invoked an ancient tradition that claimed them for himself as opposed gifting them to his master.

Das was furious with him but the quality of his work was beyond reproach for a new journeymen and his place was in the guild was granted and the name Ironbender bestowed. Das used his influence to make sure that Brun was would never work as smith in Sandport but that was okay since the young man knew his was be life wearing the armor instead of forging it. With no regret in heart he sought Belor Hemlock, the sheriff and demanded a job on the town guard.

Brun was good at this job and never raised his sword when a word would do but he never let fear cause him to fail in his duty. Though he was by far the youngest deputy in Sandport his ability to see through others lies and even to read their auras gained him a reputation as one who could settle a dispute fairly and protect those who needed it.

Though he might be welcomed as member of the law few would be his friend due to his bizarre appearance some rigid interpretation of the law. This loneliness has allowed him time reflect on his past and he has begun to wonder who he really is. If he could find trace of that past he would follow it wherever it lead and if he could find a friend who truly stand by him he would return the favor with enduring loyalty.
