There are so many pretty shinys in the world, too many to simply ignore. Even Blix Darkfeather does not possess the swift fingers to grab them all.

Blix was born in Shackles, the son of two famous and well known “Jinx Eaters” who were celebrated for their nigh impossible good luck. It was in this land of marauders that Blix came of age, surrounded by the worst criminals imaginable.

But if you asked Blix, these were his people. His friends and relatives.

So what happened next was a tragedy for the young bird man, for even though they were marauders and theives, these people were still Blix’s beloved family.

A great force of Chelaxian ships arrived from the north and raided the pirate ports at the Shackles, laying waste to much of the Darkfeather family’s holdings in the area. Then, when they had taken all they could carry, the Naval forces of Asmodeus turned their attentions to the Darkfeathers. Nearly Blix’s entire family were slain before the young bird man’s eyes and he was left marooned on floating wreckage.

This could have been the end of the little hatchling’s story if not for sheer luck: a passing Andoran freighter picked the hatchling up and brought him back to their homeland. The captain helped the boy find a happy home and he lived a happy life after that.

For a while.

The truth is, Blix never forgot where he came from or who had taken him away from there.

So when Blix was fully grown, he stepped out into the wide world and set off in the direction of Cheliax. He was too weak and small to take their lives, he thought, but he could certainly take their shinys, all of their shinys
