Your going to need an errata for this errata... You've said that a Lesser Elixir of Life is a level 3 item but it's actually level 5...

For starters, I'm all about concept first. The people giving you flak are missing out on half the fun of the game. If you can't do something in style, it isn't worth doing.

Stat-wise, you'll still need a decent Str (preferably 14 after racial adjustment) or you just aren't going to land much damage. At least with a 14 you'll be getting +3 dmg when two-handing. It's something.

Before adjustments, I'd aim for something like Str 16, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 9, Wis 14, Cha 7? You can afford to dump Cha thanks to your +2, and you can probably get by on Int 9, too, since you have decent skill points, but a lot of this may be up to your character's personality/concept.

As for other tips, the first thing that came to mind was trying out the halfling sling staff. With the Warslinger alternate trait, you can reload it as a free action, and it doubles as a club for melee attacks.

The upside here is that you only need the one weapon (which saves you a bit of money) and you don't need to drop the thing to switch to melee; also, unlike with a bow, you don't need a "mighty" version to get +str to dmg, so adjustments made on the fly due to spells etc are easily added. It's also just oh so very halfling.

The downside is that the melee damage isn't great (a small club is only 1d4/x2), and you may find you're better off just shooting.

Thanks for the reply.

What I've got at the moment (after Racial adjustment) is
Str 15
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 12
Cha 10

I'm tempted to dump Cha, but the DM has put us on the slow XP path, and has said that we will be getting a lot of bonus XP for role playing, and he has also said that if you dump a stat then your character has to behave appropriately (I think that he wants to punish min maxing while rewarding people for sticking to the character concept).

I COULD dump Charisma, and increase it at level 4 at the same time that I get my animal companion. This would actually fit in very well with my character's back story, as he is currently searching for his animal companion which was kidnapped by a circus. I could change my stats to:

Str 14
Dex 16
Con 14
Int 11 (because I can't do anything else with the one point)
Wis 13
Cha 9

Unfortunately don't see the character as a warslinger type, and was going to go with a longbow/greatsword combo, and put in the "Fleet of foot" alternative racial trait.

My DM has also said that I can have a tiger as my animal companion, so I'm not too sad to see the one point of Str go, although I know that the min max types in my group are not going to be too happy about me not doing tons of damage... Thoughts?

If you were going to make a Halfling Ranger using the switch hitter build in Tratmonk's Guide to Rangers, then how would you allocate your abilities on a 20 point buy?

I have a character concept that I don't want to break away from, so please don't tell me to play a Human, I've already had enough flak for going with a character concept over optimisation.

I'm very new to Pathfinder, and this will be my first campaign, so I could really do with some advice. Other hints and tips would also be appreciated.

HI

I've been wanting to play a tabletop RPG ever since I played Baldur's Gate 12 years ago, but I have never had a group of friends who would be interested in playing.

I've now moved from South Africa to London, and since I don't have as many friends here as I did back home I figure that it's the perfect time to make some friends who would share this interest.

I am looking for a group of friendly people who would be willing to welcome a new player into their group, and teach him the ropes. Please contact me if you know of a group, or if you have any advice for someone trying to get involved.

Thanks

Chris

(PS: I don't actually mind which RPG I play as I'll only be buying the rule books once I have found a group... The wife would kill me if I spent the money, and didn't end up using the books)
