Background:

Bishnu was raised to be a soldier. He came from a fairly poor colony, so in the event of another mouth to feed, his parents sold him off at an early age to the Colonial Military. The meant he was subject to genetic modification to increase his toughness, reaction time and strength along with the experimental hyper adrenalin boost tech which allowed for the subject to boost strength and toughness past normal limits for a brief time. . It was long ago found that such modification should be done as early as possible to allow the subject to adapt to the changes as if they were natural. He grew up in a creche run by the military to become a perfect soldier. He got along just fine. Not really standing out, but always in the running, and never lagging. His inner fire was always visible to his instructors. When challenged he would rise up to it, but he didn't really have great ambition to seek out challenges.

After working in a line company in the Colonial Marines, he was eventually transferred to the Special Ops Division owing to his prowess. He didn't request the transfer, or really desire it, but he was too good to waste in a line company. There in the Colonial Special Ops forces he met Velden who was often assigned overwatch sniper duties while Bishnu's team infiltrated and eliminated the target. After several missions with the Division (over several years), he finally was given a choice to opt out. There had been cutbacks in the Colonial forces budget, and they needed to let soldiers retire. While there was some trepidation as to letting a bunch of genetically modified trained killers out on society, it was felt that the maladjusted ones would have already died in combat, or through base discipline. Bishnu opting out was seen as fairly anomalous because usually the drive to make Special Ops indicated an individual who thrived in combat and would stay. However Bishnu had been burned in so many bad ops with poor intel resulting in friends and comrades dying to little purpose, that he simply wanted out. He was completely disillusioned with the service by this point and just wanted to find a peaceful colony world to retire to.

He chose Pandora because all the brochures described it as an idyllic Eden. He didn't know any better that the brochures would lie so egregiously. One his transit to final disposition on Pandora, he was forced to intervene in a bandit incident on his transport vessel. Single handedly clearing the vessel of the band of pirates which had assaulted the small freighter he was traveling on got him some renown, but he shrugged it off. It's just that they ticked him off. Bandits always ticked him off.
