Pathfinder,

Reports are just starting to come in from our expedition to Jormurdun. I am pleased to hear that the march from our base camp fared well, and I understand that several of our less reputable enemies were spotted on the field of battle. I trust that you or one of our other fine agents took advantage of the opportunity and laid one or both of the villains to rest. If not, then we'll need to keep our eyes sharp and our blades sharper.

It sounds as though our agents found something quite spectacular in the sky citadel, but I've yet to get a straight answer out of the Master of Scrolls as to what that is. It sounds complicated and may require further study, and if that calls for more travel, you're one of the first agents I'll contact. I imagine you would enjoy that more than reviewing these contracts we drew up with the Five Kings Mountains to make sure the transfer of power in Jormurdun goes smoothly.

In the meantime, we have a situation in Nantambu, one of the few lodges in the Mwangi Expanse. Venture-Captain Nieford Sharrowsmith has bitten off more than he can chew and has requested reinforcements, though he's been nearly impossible to locate magically since then. I don't like it, but we need to confirm that the lodge and its agents remain in good working order. It's virtually our only base in that wilderness, and I don't want it to go the way of Kalabuto.

Loyal Agent of the Decemvirate,
As of my most recent visit a week ago, the once-scarred walls of Nerosyan were completely repaired. Knowing that you and other Pathfinders were an integral part of defending that city against the demon onslaught makes me proud. No matter the ultimate cost of reaching Jormurdun, I know that the experience has helped shape some of the finest agents I've had the privilege to know.
Our discussions with the dwarven emissaries resulted in agreeable terms, and they have already begun mustering an impressive force to aid us in our march across the Worldwound. I'm expecting you to join the small army of Pathfinders that we're sending with them. That's still several months off, but it should make for a valuable experience. Just watching soldiers from the Five Kings Mountains train and drill is a lesson in efficiency and dedication.
If only I could say positive things about all dwarves. It is now clear that Venture-Captain Thurl has betrayed us. Venture-Captain Jorsal does the work of two venture-captains and hardly seems to sleep, and I know he secured considerable evidence against Thurl that clearly illustrates the dwarf's guilt and seems to suggest we may not have seen the last of him. Stopping Thurl is not only in Mendev's best interests; it's a point of pride for the Pathfinder Society. Nobody does what he did and gets away with it. Nobody.
I'm trusting you to keep your gear close by in case I catch wind of our traitor's location and need a trustworthy agent on short notice. I also expect you to join the trip to Jormurdun and help ensure the Society's success. If anything goes wrong, you're the one I trust to set things right.

Determined Delver,

We leave Varisia a safer place, thanks to the efforts of you and your fellow Pathfinders. The long-slumbering Krune is now forever at rest, and the masters Aram Zey and Kreighton Shaine personally traversed the Hao Jin Tapestry to escort the runelord’s immensely powerful artifacts back to the Grand Lodge for study.

No doubt you have heard of the unexpected discovery made while agents explored the depths beneath Janderhoff and Koldukar: we learned of a long-lost dwarven Sky Citadel in what was once Sarkoris and we now know as the Worldwound. An expedition into a demon-ravaged wasteland is perhaps our most dangerous undertaking yet, and making the journey will require considerable preparation. Fortunately, Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury and Venture-Captain Thurl have been hard at work in Nerosyan for years, and we have an excellent base of operations awaiting the arrival of loyal agents. I have no doubt that you, one of the most reliable Pathfinders I have had the pleasure to work with, will be among the first to travel north for this grand undertaking.

In the coming months, we will need to acquire as many outside resources as possible to ensure success. Representatives of the Decemvirate have already approached the dwarves of the Five Kings Mountains for aid, and they have agreed to assist us in reaching the citadel so long as they can reclaim it once we have explored it to our satisfaction. The details are still being worked out, and negotiators are on their way to Nerosyan to finalize the details.

Your mission is, as always, the Pathfinders’ mission. Ensure that you are doing everything you can to make this expedition a success, and in the event that complications should arise, I will need trustworthy Pathfinders on hand to send in and resolve the problem without causing an international debacle.

Capable Explorer,

First and foremost, let me thank you for the incredible job you’ve done over the last several months. Since the Ten first set their eyes on Varisia and focused many of the Pathfinder Society’s resources on Magnimar and the ruins of ancient Thassilon both outside and within its walls, we have made—nay, you, Pathfinders, have made—many notable discoveries. But our work is not yet done!

The reputation of the Pathfinder Society in Magnimar has grown beyond my greatest expectations, and the Decemvirate, my fellow venture-captains, and the Heidmarchs are certain that you will be able to follow through with what you’ve already set in motion and cement the society as a vital part of Magnimar. With the discoveries you’ve already made, our goal of making Heidmarch Manor one of the premier Pathfinder lodges in all of Avistan is well within reach. Keep up the good work!

Our troubles with the Aspis Consortium continue, however, and it is clear that they’ve got a sturdy foothold in the region. While we anticipated running into them in Magnimar, I don’t think anyone could have expected Riddleport to be such a hotbed of consortium activity. Maiveer Sloan, who runs Bronze House in Magnimar, seems nigh untouchable, but whoever is pulling the Aspis Consortium’s strings from the City of Cyphers may not have the ear and protection of that city’s rulers. We must double down our vigilance against the Aspis Consortium in Riddleport, and from there the entirety of Varisia, to ensure the wealth of knowledge, magic, and ancient secrets isn’t plundered for their avaricious coffers.
The rebellious Shadow Lodge agents who opened war against the society two years hence have as yet not presented as much of a problem as I anticipated. Something tells me, however, that the force behind their insurrection hasn’t petered out entirely yet. Keep on the lookout for those who still wish to destroy the society from within, and report to Sheila Heidmarch or me any discoveries you may make regarding their plans.

The greatest treasure recovered from the ruins of Thassilon this year has been a dire discovery, however. We have learned that the cult of the ancient goddess Lissala is alive and well, and has been for thousands of years. They’re currently well on their way to implementing a plan beyond anyone’s wildest fears—the awakening of a long-sleeping runelord. The Pathfinder Society is in a unique position to prevent such an atrocity from coming to pass, and we must not shirk such a duty. While we aim to be neutral in all things, the society’s very survival could depend on preventing this great, destructive evil from entering the world. Do all you can to assist your fellow Pathfinders as they undertake this mission, which is more dangerous than any we have yet attempted as an organization.

Able Pathfinder,

This is a great year to be a member of our illustrious organization, for the Pathfinder Society stands on the precipice of many wonderful discoveries! As I’m sure you’ve heard, you are being sent to Varisia, likely for the adventure of your life. You will be serving under Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch in the city of Magnimar, and working with her to establish one of our newest Pathfinder Lodges out of her manor house in within the city. While she and her husband Canayven have been hosting Pathfinders on their estate for several years, the lodge is still new and the better the agents working there, the more likely the Magnimar Lodge is to become one of the most successful in the Society.

And it must be successful. This is not a matter the Ten take lightly, for the wealth of Varisia will soon be exploited by those with less concern for the knowledge and history contained within, and we must stake our claim! Already the Aspis Consortium has established itself as a legitimate and influential political and economic entity within Magnimar, having assisted in the growth and security of this relatively new city. They are now better poised than we are to explore the ancient Thassilonian ruins that fill the Varisian landscape, including the newly discovered mountaintop capital of Xin-Shalast.

The recent conflict with the Aspis Consortium within the Hao Jin Tapestry was unfortunate, but we will not have the luxury of waging open war with our rivals in the streets of Magnimar or even the wilds of Varisia. Despite the limitations presented by the real world, we will doubtless have plenty of opportunities to make things difficult for the Consortium, both in Magnimar and elsewhere in Varisia. Ensure you take every such opportunity!

Additionally, it was in Varisia—in the mysterious and ancient city of Kaer Maga—that the rogue Shadow Lodge agents who troubled us recently made their first move against our loyal agents. Likely, remnants of that cell still operate in Varisia and are either plotting our demise or sullying the Pathfinder name. We have largely come to terms with the Shadow Lodge, but those who still defy Grandmaster Torch could present a problem for us. Continue to rout out remnants of the Shadow Lodge insurrection and ensure they either fall in line with the rest of their kind or are eliminated as potential threats to the Society’s wellbeing.

May the Pathfinder Chronicles tell many a tale of your exploits in Varisia!

All will be answered in good time, Pathfinders. Until such time as we lay all upon the table, I urge you to steel yourselves for the task at hand. The Decemvirate needs you.
