Description: Bardolph is a gruff, wild-eyed man in his mid-thirties with unkempt black hair and a humorous, out-of-style mustache. He is of average height and is of medium build, except for a pronounced gut. He wears a dirty robe which was probably worth something before it became covered in grease, grime, and failed alchemical experiments, with a thick, oil-spotted leather smock over it. Most days, he reeks of cheap alcohol, and he may be visibly drunk. He carries a thick book with rope bindings which has torn pages falling out, and a shortsword with a bronze-colored hilt wrapped in black leather sits in a sheath hanging from his tattered canvas belt.
Background: Bardolph is a local hedge wizard who spends most of his time drinking heavily while poring over thick tomes at the local tavern. He is exceptionally bright, but lacks both common sense and basic social skills, the combination of which has resulted in his being disapprenticed by two potential teachers and kicked out of a formal wizardry school in a larger city. Most of his wizardly abilities are gleaned from bits of written lore. He runs a small, dirty book- and magic shop, and is generally loath to part with any items, as he considers his stock to be a 'personal collection'. Of course, almost none of the items he owns are of any value whatsoever. He survives by tricking travelers into buying false magical items, and casting a few utility spells or practicing a bit of alchemy for neighbors and acquaintances (He has very few friends). Bardolph is not a devout or pious man, but he is genuine in his occasional prayers to Oghma. Of late, Bardolph has become tired of reading and re-reading the same few tomes for tidbits of magical lore, but he drinks his relatively meager income away, leaving little for new purchases.
