About Balnar Frostblade

Known for his brutal temper, Balnar earned his moniker of "Frostblade" when in a drunken fit of pique, he broke a sheet of ice with his bare hands and proceeded to wield it as if were his everpresent and enormous axe.

A follower of Iomedae, Balnar is a strict adherent to her teachings of valorous conduct (if nothing else), and considers sneak attacks to be nothing less than cowardly.

Background
Rumored to have giant blood somewhere in their background, it is a rare son of the Helmslad family that is not both impressively big and almost impossibly strong. Balnar is a prime example of this, with both a brutal body and a keen mind, he rapidly became known for his wicked cunning and savage temper.

At a fairly early age, Balnar began working for the local lumber consortium. A simple spotter at the time, Balnar took the place of one of the lumberjacks and hefted an axe that was far too large for his young frame. Although he was applauded for his enthusiasm by the lumberjacks, the headman frowned upon his actions and went out of his way to make trouble for young Balnar.

Upon hearing of the headman's meddling, Balnar flew into a rage and savagely attacked the powerful headman. The headman easily beat the petulant boy and sent him home to be further beaten by his greatly disappointed father for tarnishing his family's good name and reputation.

Several years later found Balnar a grown man, mourning the death of his parents, the only remnant of his family home being the enormous blade from his father's greataxe.

Having spent several months and most of his savings experimenting at rehafting the axe, the axe that had once been his father's constant companion became his. Events had come full cirlce. Just as his father had been an unpredictable yet honorable man, so he had become. Just as his father had created his oversized greataxe, Balnar had now also done so.
