A solution to looting could be to instead apply the items to accounts as "skins" that can be placed on a weapon, so even if your weapon is looted, you can get another weapon and place the "skin" on it again.
A little immersion breaking but I was thinking the exact same thing :)

Just call it a cantrip that has one rather limited effect: to put a silver sword illusion over another slashing weapon. Owning the miniature sword, even if it's not on your person, gives you the ability to cast this cantrip. You could sell, trade, or otherwise lose possession of the tiny sword, and with it, the ability to make your weapon look like a full-sized version of it.

This is brilliant! I would personally love to see the daily rewards being skins that can be put on other, more practical, weapons, and this solution is really genious!

I am going to be bumping this post, because I have an idea, and consquently, questions:

I intend to play an elven cleric called Asfrithr. This is a character that I played in Forgotten Realms pen and paper for years, taking him from level 1 to level 13, at which point the campaigns ended. My character was at that time made into an archpriest and given his own Temple, where he probably resides to this day. And this makes me want to create a temple for the PFO Asfrithr too...

Imagine that I've played for a while, and learned both spells attributed to healing (Cure, Restoration etc), and how to brew healing potions and even scribe scrolls. Then I become a member of a Settlement somewhere, and begin to build my temple. The temple will have two parts, one in which travellers and settlement dwellers can come to be cured, and one in which adventurers can stock up on adventuring supplies, like healing potions, all for a fee. That would be awesome!

I further imagine that such a building can employ some of the invisible commoners to administer healing and sell products whenever I'm not logged on, or am busy adventuring/crafting myself. I may have to create quests, or orders, to other PCs in order to supply the temple, ie. pay for new potions and scrolls, or the components thereof. Perhaps I won't make any money, but then again, NG temples should probably be non-profit anyway...

Will such a project be possible in the future? And if so, how much interaction would I need to make per week in order to make it float?

I don't like the idea of having to log on every day for skill training to be efficient. I know that I won't be able to do so anyway. I'll be lucky to be able to play 10 hours/week, and even then, 7-8 of those hours would be in the weekend... Some weeks I may not be able to log on at all. Last week for example had me occupied every day with work and other RL commitments. I might have been able to squeeze in some time in an MMO, but I know myself well enough to know that it would never be "just ten minutes".

But having to log in say once every fortnight or even once a week should be doable for everyone.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I like the idea that physical stats affect your character. I've been a pen-and-paper GM for well over a decade now, and one of the things I, and my players, stress, both consciously and unconsciously, is that it should be possible to glean some combat statistics just from looking at somebody. It should be possible, though difficult, to hide the fact that you have STR 18 or DEX 18. You could Disguise yourself, or try to Feint, but as a general rule, higher STR = higher amount of visible muscles, and higher DEX = higher agility, even when walking down the road. CON should be physically apparent too, with higher scores = more healthy/sturdy build.

In an MMO like this, appearance really is everything. I understand that some people would like full control over their character's looks, and I myself normally spends hours, most of the first day in fact, making my avatar just "so". Still, adjusting the sliders so that extreme physical ability scores (lower than 8 and higher than 15, say) gives you different ranges to choose from is just plain sense to me. All within the norms of the different races, of course.
