Arturr thinks for a moment.
"I know him sure. Everyone does. That's a great idea Alistar, we should head over there and see if his stand is set up." Arturr grins. Not one to usually be in the know, he relishes it when he has the chance.
DM, do I know him? I was born and raised in this neighborhood. But I don't have Klocal as a skill. (Though I tend to think that Klocal should be on everyone's list and just applied to where you're from and skill points count towards new places, but that's just me lol)
"These people are hardly lost. They are the same as you and I, people aren't wholly defined by their surrounding." He flashes a toothy grin at one of the ladies outside a brothel, "Hi Carol!" Taking a few more steps he points down an alley, "I used to sleep there in the alley on the back side of the fireplace stones where it's warm. I turned out just fine." "Only religious problems around here are that there are followers of some of the nastier deities. Faith all the same, I say."
Arturr bumped his elbow back at Krystal. "I was a large baby, but not so large as this. Only intense daily training for the fights in the arena. But now that I'm a pathfinder, I'll grow even stronger, as soon as we can fight some monsters. And not rob graves?" He lifted his voice at that last part of his sentence making it sound like a question. Looking at Alistar and Edril.
"I'm a wrestler and fighter, not a archamologist." Arturr says seriously to Alistar.
Smirking at Krystal Arturr added, "I'm sure they call it relic recovery or something fancy."
Arturr snorts derisively. "I was born and raised in Underbridge, lil' Lady. Fifteen years of sleeping in the gutter." he sounds surprisingly proud and not at all bitter, like being poor and homeless and living in filth were the same as saying that he ordered a sandwich. He nods at Alistar. "Heading out right, boss." He leaves the room and returns to the entrance, making sure to get his Axe and gear on the way out.
"To leave a person an empty vessel, devoid of memory and property, is nearly as bad as murdering them in my opinion." he made a fist and hammered it down on his thigh. "My bet would be drugs or magic. Both would be accessible to the Sczarni."
Arturr follows the watch officer. He nods his agreement with Alistar and says "That's likely to insult their competence." under his breath.
"Yes, finally the watch commander is coming out."
Arturr grinds his teeth a bit. "Sir, in the time we've been here, ten other people have come in and been assisted. It seems to me that our turn has come and gone near a dozen times over. So perhaps the Watch Officers have some problem with us and I'd like to know if that is true so we can address it."
Arturr fidgets, standing with his back leaned against the wall. He is not a very patient half orc. "Anyone else feel like we're being ignored outright?" he asks angrily. He storms up to the guard behind the bars. "Hey old man! What's the hold up?"
Arturr snorts at this empty place. "Yeah the guards are nice. I hate slavers. Hopefully they can point us in the right direction so I can knock some sense into the bastards that would dirty my city with that trade.
"Not sure yet." Arturr tries to open the nearest hallway door.
Arturr heads down the hallway hoping to see any other entrances or doors to "encourage" open. "Found a hallway." he says over his shoulder so that everyone in the main room can hear him.
Holding his axe at his shoulder like a lumberjack, Arturr opens the door he is near.
"I wouldn't be to worried about guards in this town." Arturr chirped, he headed toward the back to see if there were back rooms or a rear exit.
Arturr scans the area. "I can see in the dark and have passable tracking skills.
With a swift kick, Arturr stubs his toe, and hobbles back a few steps. Gritting his teeth, he kicks with the other foot. And bashes the door in.
With clear access to the door now, Arturr tries the handle. If it is unlocked he will open it and step through the gap. If it is locked closed, Arturr now having a clear shot at the door, will kick the door in.
Alistar had the right of it. Direct strength based approach. Arturr grabbed a board alongside him. "Holes are for rats am I right?" he smiled.
Shambles, the dock was unusable, maybe a nimble child could use it. Arturr was definitely to heavy.
Arturr, nods and walks around the outside of the building towards the sea. "Back ways it is."
Arturr smiles. "In it is." he says striding toward the entrance.
Sweet. I had a chill holiday, I'll work on my posting.
"It seems that angering them would be more challenging and thus more fun, but as time is currently an issue, I suppose the softer route would be better this once." Arturr shook his head with disappointment, the Sczarni were like any group, individuals could cut both ways, and generally he didn't have too much of a problem with them as they usually looked out for the untouchables in the city more than anyone else, even the churches.
"I agree. Though it would be easy to check for slavers. One night patrolling the beach, though, I have no idea how to tell Nidalese ships from any other type of ship." he commented. "Yes, I wonder if they are called Tower Girls because they live in a tower, or perhaps they are all tall? I like tall women."
Arturr watched as the others interacted with this man. It was obvious that they were better suited to such delicate matters. His only idea had been to punch the man in the face until he gave up the info. He was glad he had waited for his new compatriots to take the lead. Punching people ain't always the answer Art, you big dumb oaf. Sometimes you got let the boys with silver in their mouth do the squak'n. Silver on the tongue, what a waste o coin. he smiled at his own internal cleverness.
Arturr steps up beside Keezheekoni and wordlessly lets his great axe head thump on the ground as he places both palms on the pommel and looks large and impatient.
Im pretty sure I'm compliant with that already, it was in the recruitment post right?
Arturr bends down as the group reaches the tent so he can better hear the lad whisper. "Got it, I'll be careful, thanks little brother." He shoot the kid a wide grin and presses five more coppers and a whole gold coin into the boy's hand. "Keep yourself out of trouble now and watch out for those smaller and weaker than you." he whispers to the kid.
I'm going to be out of town for the weekend, I likely will still be able to get a post in, but don't wait for me by any means.
Arturr agrees, this boy was a good haggler. He didn't want to hand them all the coppers at once, seeing as they'd likely just run off. He hands the lead boy four more coppers. "Fair deal lad, half up front, now lead and onion away."
"Of course we don't attack 'em!" Arturr shouted with a playful nudge of the elbow towards Estel. "The lad's gotta eat like the rest of us. Good on ya for looking out for your mates lad." Arturr fished a copper out of his pocket and handed it to the lead boy. "And the rest for your mates when you take us the way. And I ain't no punter, just some gutter slime like the rest of you." He smiles playfully and knowingly at the kid.
Arturr cheerfully approaches one of the Urchins and kneels down."Oi kiddo, tell me where I can find Zograthy and I'll give ya a copper piece." He smiles his most disarming smile.
"Ha, indeed Edril! Except Orc, Orcs fight for sport. Smartest, most dangerous animal." He chuckled at his wit. "Little ones, old ones, anyone who says they are fortune teller has a handful of notes about us now so they can pretend to see our futures. Old old trick, especially on all of you sticking out like sore thumb." he chortles again. "Let us see if the professor or any of his pretend monstrosities have seen our quarry." He thumbs toward the side street and heads that way.
Arturr smiles. A few short years ago, he could have been one of those urchins playing in the fountain. This was all familiar to him. "Oh, most are honest folk, but everyone suspects everyone else, so they look a bit crooked now." Arturr all but shouted as he clapped Keezheekoni on the shoulder. "The real ones to look after are the little 'uns fast as the wind, quite as a mouse light as a bird alighting a branch. Nip your pouch and disappear in an instant, I should know, it's what I used to do." he laughed as if some grand joke was afoot. He begins to survey the games, to see if any are worth attempting. He despised the fighting of animals and didn't ever bet on things like that. "For some reason violence entertains the downtrodden, gladiator fighting is one thing, but animals, is just cruel."
Arturr nodded as the group prepared to depart. He grabbed his gear and hefted his Greataxe over his shoulder like a lumberjack.
Doolun's Lads, and other lowlifes, common enough where he was from in the city, Sheila was right, some weren't half bad if you stayed out of their way and kept up on protection payments. Slavers however, a different breed. Arturr hated bullies and was there a worse kind? "If the slavers have her, they likely will leave quickly, and wouldn't dare try to sell her or others here. That seems the least likely option but one I'd like to check off anyways." he growled a guttural sound through his fangs. "I know where washer's row is, but I can't say I've ever been one to believe in fortune tellers, thick bellied soft heads if you ask me." he took a sip of his now refilled ale and berry mix. "Also, going right to the Gallow's would likely bring us to people with information, but they likely may not share it. If it is a Scarzni mix up, nothing happens in this city without the Gallow's ok. Could be dangerous."
As the box pops open, Arturr slaps Estel on the back. "Ha! Knew you could do it!" After Sheila and Koriah return he nods fiercely agreement with Alistar.
"What's in the box? What's in the BOX!"
Maybe have someone spring the trap, Estel has to roll a 17 to hit that super hard DC and no one else will be even close. Arturr can volunteer if we want to try that way or we could as the more experienced patherfinder when she returns.
Arturr taps his foot as each rune forms. Myr, before we grow old and die." "Seems they were set on protecting this box from only impatient thieves. Or they were elves." he smirks but steps in to see as the box opens.
Arturr watches as the group deciphers the box, curious and also a little apprehensive about being near an ancient unidentified magic item with words like wrath and cruel written on it.
I think you're right, Ulcer and Lucre are the only words besides cruel. And Lucre is an old word, generally in the bible.
